Today is the last day of the 2016 Atlantic Hurricane Season which was the first one considered “above-normal” for the first time since 2012. This year, there were 15 named storms, including 7 hurricanes – 3 of which were major. NOAA’s lead hurricane forecaster, Gerry Bell, says there were several factors which lead to the active season…:

He says the reason the Gulf was spared for the most part this year is because the storms formed over the tropical Atlantic which tend not to track this way.

A man who was caught on video looting a flooded Baton Rouge Hi-Neighbor grocery story in August, robbing it of beer and cigarettes, has been arrested. Police say 20-year-old Clarence Duncan was recognized from the surveillance and, when questioned, admitted to the crime stating he needed food. He was booked on charges of looting into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

Using metal detectors to keep Bourbon Street safer is not a practical solution. That’s according to Edward Robinson of L and R security services. He says aside from difficult logistics, it would be a costly venture when you look at how much manpower would be needed…:

The man accused of killing a Shreveport Police Officer last year was ruled competent to stand trial during a Tuesday sanity hearing. A doctor told the court that Grover Cannon was even upset the defense suggested he had a mental issue. Officer Thomas LaValley was killed in August 2015 when responding to a suspicious person call. Cannon faces four charges including, 1st Degree Murder.

The Baton Rouge Police Police Union is livid over the Metro Council’s decision to settle with Alton Sterling protesters who sued over the treatment they received from cops. The city leaders agreed to pay $100,000 to the demonstrators instead of going to trial. The Police Union says this payout is a slap in the face to all officers involved.

There is an opioid overdose every 18 hours in Louisiana, and now Walgreens is selling an over the counter antidote that would stop the effects of an OD. That’s according to LSU Health New Orleans Professor of Psychiatry James Becnel. He says he hopes more pharmacies will make Naloxone available…:

State Police say a 17-year-old is dead after failing to yield for a train in Sabine Parish and colliding with it. They say Kevin Brown’s vehicle exited the left side of the road after impact and overturned.

Gonzales Police are looking for a man they say allegedly walked into a gas station, exposed himself and began performing a sex act in front of customers. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact authorities.

Police say a man in St. Tammany Parish who allegedly went on a date with a woman he met online before tying her up and trying to kidnap her is reportedly in custody. They indicate after the victim called for help, authorities began a pursuit that went across the Causeway and ended with 41-year-old Christopher Garcy crashing in Avondale and getting into a standoff with cops before he was apprehended.

Governor John Bel Edwards will head to Washington D.C. once again today to continue to lobby for federal flood aid.

One person is dead after an airboat on a swamp tour collided with a mud boat yesterday afternoon in Bayou Des Allemends. Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Spokesperson Adam Einck says the crash occurred near Mud Lake in Lafourche Parish and the mud boat operator was ejected into the water.

Law enforcement agencies in Baton Rouge have settled a civil rights lawsuit filed by advocacy groups that alleged police used excessive force and psychical abuse during Alton Sterling protests. A cold front is sweeping across the state tonight bringing the potential for another round of severe weather. State Climatologist Barry Keim says parts of eastern Louisiana have an enhanced risk of severe weather with the rest of the state having a slight to marginal risk. He says we could experience tornadoes, high winds and hail.

It looks like former Governor Bobby Jindal will not head the Department of Health and Human Services as sources say President-elect Trump has selected Georgia US Representative Tom Price. Jindal was rumored to be on a list of those under consideration for the cabinet position. During his own failed presidential campaign, the former governor made several critical statements of Mr. Trump including calling him a narcissist egomaniac.

A 91-year-old man in Baton Rouge lost his life when high winds knocked a tree on top of him while he was raking leaves. State Climatologist Barry Keim says tonight the state is looking at the potential for more severe weather. He expects high winds, hail and a lot of rain:

A fatal crash involving a Swamp Tour boat in LaFourche parish has claimed the life of one person. Adam Einck with the Louisiana Department of Wild life and Fisheries says a mud boat collided with the tour boat and the operator of the mud boat was ejected and killed.
