Police in North Louisiana have arrested a 17-year-old girl in the stabbing death of her 47-year-old boyfriend. Michelle Southern reports.

Week two of the legislative session is underway and it appears legislators are far from agreeing to a funding plan for next fiscal year’s budget. House Appropriations Chairman Cameron Henry says lawmakers have more than 150 tax bills to look over, and they’re still missing vital information on many of them.

Henry says in many cases, lawmakers still need more information on the proposals before they can make a decision, and that will come during the hearings. He says what legislation moves out of committee will depend on the merit of each individual bill, not partisan politics.

Henry says it remains to be seen which proposals have the most support, not just from legislators by from the public as well. The House Appropriations Committee will hear testimony from the public starting tomorrow. He says voters’ opinions will greatly influence lawmakers.

Nascent Technologies Corporation located on the LSU campus received two cybersecurity contracts totaling nearly five-million dollars from the U.S. Department of Defense. N-T-C president Jeff Moulton says they will develop real solutions to real worldwide problems

NTC was established last year with support from the state’s economic development department. They employ about two dozen workers and Moulton says they’ve been contracted to identify and assess the risk and exposure in the energy industry supply chain. He says viruses can attack industrial systems and the threat of a cyber-attack is a major concern…

The second contract secured by NTC is to coordinate information to address intelligence gaps between the U.S. and it’s many Caribbean partners. He says because the Caribbean comprises multiple countries, intelligence gaps can naturally emerge….

UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation is seeking financial assistance applications from families with children that have medical needs not covered or not fully covered by their commercial health insurance. Joe Ochipinti (ahki’pinti), CEO of UnitedHealthcare-Gulf States Region, says grants cover up to $5,000 annually per child…:

The president of the Herndon Magnet Parent-Teacher-Student Association has been arrested for theft. Cindy Chadwick with the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office says 47-year-old Vera Dunfey of Shreveport headed the association. She says the investigation began in August of 2016 when an audit showed money was missing from the PTSA fund.

Chadwick says the money in the account was raised through school fundraisers, and Dunfey had the most access to the money. She says after a detective met with the suspect, police took a look at Dunfey’s personal account.

Chadwick says Dunfey has been booked into the Caddo Correctional Center on one count of theft. She says Dunfey committed the crime throughout the school year.

The Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office has identified they teen they believe stabbed her 47-year-old boyfriend to death in North Louisiana. They say 17-year-old Ronnie Francis is originally from New Orleans but had been living with the victim, Melvin Peterson, in Dubach for 3 months. Francis is charged with Manslaughter and is currently being held in the Lincoln Parish Detention Center.

Police in North Louisiana have arrested a teen from New Orleans for allegedly killing her much older boyfriend. The Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s office booked the teen in the fatal stabbing of a 47-year-old man early this morning.

The centerpiece of Governor John Bel Edwards’ plan to overhaul’s Louisiana tax code is expected to be filed today. Under the so-called gross receipts plan, any business with sales over 1.5 million dollars would have a portion of transactions taxed. The Ouchita Parish Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in the case of an officer involved shooting in Monroe. They say 21-year-old Brady Gauthier is accused of getting into a physical altercation with a deputy during a routine traffic stop when a shot was fired. Both the cop and suspect were injured in the incident, but it is not known who is responsible for discharging the weapon. Upon release from the hospital, Gauthier was booked on charges including attempted first degree murder.

Lawmakers get back to work today and it’s expected that the focal point of the Edwards Administration’s plan to reform the state’s tax code will be filed. A new program at Ochsner Cancer Institute in Jefferson Parish will bring early-phase clinical trials to cancer patients. Baton Rouge Representative Steve Carter has filed a bill that would require any trucks over a certain weight, including school buses and 18-wheelers, go ten miles below the posted speed limit. He says it’s a safety issue and could also help traffic problems..:

He says he got the idea after the highly traveled Atchafalaya Spillway reduced speed for big rigs.

LDWF has scheduled a drawdown of Lake Bistineau in Webster Parish to control rapidly growing watermoss. LDWF Biologist Manager Jeff Sibley says the drawdown, set for May 1st, is a little bit earlier this year in order to get the situation back under control. He says summer temperatures promote giant salvinia growth…:

They didn’t get the Gold, but the LSU gymnastics team has nothing to be ashamed of as they closed out a historic season after finishing second at the NCAA Championships. The Tigers claim the second highest score at a title meet in school history. Coach D-D Breaux was named the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association’s Coach of the Year for the second time in her career after leading the squad to a 34-2 overall record for the most wins in a single season in school history.

Louisiana Tech took two of three from Old Dominion over the weekend. The Bulldogs defeated the Monarchs seven to three as Tech pounded out three home runs in the ninth inning. Jordan Washam hit a solo home run to give the Diamond Dogs the lead for good…:

Tech is now 6-9 in Conference USA and will host McNeese State tomorrow.

The Cowboys rallied from a 6-0 deficit through four innings to go on to defeat UNO 9-7 Saturday and complete the Southland Conference series sweep. McNeese improved to 16-2 in conference action with the win, and move into sole possession of first place in Southland standings.

Also in the Southland, Southeastern fell to Northwestern State Saturday 6-4 and the Demons avoid being swept in the conference series. The Lions will take on UL-Lafayette Wednesday.

The Ragin Cajuns completed the sweep of Arkansas State following a 3-2 victory Saturday to remain on top of the Sun Belt’s West Division.

A yearly survey from the National Retail Federation finds 80-percent of consumers will celebrate Easter this year and spend a record total of 18 billion dollars. Anna Serafin Smith with NRF says 87-percent of shoppers will spend 6 billion dollars on food and clothing spending is its highest level in a decade with 50-percent of people buying new Easter outfits.

Authorities in Baton Rouge are investigating another break in at LSU’s Tiger Stadium. Officials with the school say there were reports of people in the stadium yesterday but have not released details about if any items were stolen or damaged.

Spending for Easter is expected to reach a record high, as the holiday came a few weeks later this year. Anna Serafin Smith with the National Retail Federation says their yearly survey finds 80-percent of consumers will celebrate and spend a record total of over 18-billion dollars.

Smith says customers will spend an average of $152 per person on Easter, including food, clothing, candy and gifts.

Dorson says the owner didn’t have the resources to care for the dog, so their members raised over $800 to help pay for the dog’s care.

Although the buring of M6 propellant at Camp Minden in Webster Parish is finised, the job might not be over yet. The Louisiana National Guard could extend their contract with ESI to continue buring hazardous substances there but LSU Shreveport science professor Brian Salvatore wants it to stop. He says the Webster Parish Police Jury passed a resolution in December for the company to remove the burn chamber. But he says they voted again last week and decided to rescind the resolution.
