Sheriff Shaqullie O’Neal? The former LSU and NBA star told an Atlanta TV station that plans to run for sheriff in a few years. Shaq said he isn’t joking, and it has nothing to do with politics, but working to help people come closer together trust and respect police again. O’Neal, who has residences in Georgia and Florida, said he hasn’t made up his mind yet where he would run in 2020.

This year’s stripper age requirement bill gets its first hearing in a Senate committee today. The measure is touted as a way to curb human trafficking, and Jim Kelley, Executive Director of Covenant House in New Orleans believes if you have to be 21-years-old to drink in a strip club, you should be 21 to dance naked…:

Corporal punishment will continue in school districts that allow it, as a measure to do away with paddling students died on the house floor. Supporting the bill is New Orleans Representative Joe Bouie who says research shows this form of physical punishment does not work…:

Governing magazine’s analysis of federal data finds Louisiana’s median hourly wage fell by 0.5 percent to $15.43 last year. LSU economist Dr. Loren Scott says the state has lost a lot of high paying jobs in the oil and gas industry since 2015, so it’s not really a surprise…:

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reports that Saints center Max Unger, a key part of the team’s offense, suffered a foot injury and is expected to miss the start of the 2017 season. His availability is in question but too early to tell if he won’t play in the first regular-season games. The Saints have waived defensive end/linebacker Royce LaFrance, and released tight end Jake Stoneburner.

After going 2-1 against South Carolina, LSU has moved up in three of the four major baseball polls. Perfect Game and D-1 Baseball ranks the Tigers No. 11 up from 12. Collegiate Baseball to number 10 up from 11. Baseball American keeps LSU at NO. 15.

The SEC has named Tiger centerfielder Zach Watson the Freshman of the Week.

In college baseball today, UL-Lafayette will host in-state rival Louisiana Tech. It’s the first of 5 games in 6 days for the Cajuns who also face Louisiana-foe McNeese State tomorrow. Raphael Gladu of the Diamond Dogs has been named the Conference USA Player of the Week.

Tulane announced Monday they will host LSU coaches for a satellite camp in June instead of with Michigan. Tigers Coach Ed Orgeron says he’s happy about going to New Orleans where he expects there will be a lot of Louisiana prospects he hopes will stay in the state.

LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva announced Monday that long-time men’s tennis coach Jeff Brown has resigned in what he called a mutual decision.

LSU men’s basketball coach Will Wade adds former Ole Miss assistant BIll Armstrong to his staff.

A TV station in Georgia is reporting that former LSU and NBA star Shaqulie O’Neal is planning to run for sheriff in 2020. It says Shaq could run in Henry County there, or in Florida. O’Neal said it’s nothing about politics, but about bringing back love and respect for police. The report said the campaign slogan in mind is, “Shaq for Sheriff! Back to the old school.”.

A measure that would increase the age requirement from 18 to 21 for exotic dance clubs to hire strippers is scheduled to be heard by a Senate Committee today. The bill has been touted as a way to stop human trafficking. Jim Kelly runs the Covenant House in New Orleans and he’s helped over 90 human trafficking victims recently…:

A similar law was passed last year but was blocked by a judge for being too vague. Kelly says this year’s measure is far less broad.

An effort to immediately block the removal of one of the Confederate era monuments in New Orleans has been blocked by a judge. A suit was filed claiming the Beauregard statue was on private property and didn’t belong to the city. A hearing is slated for tomorrow morning.

McBride says the pickers walked out with around 30 items including vintage toys and gambling machines. They also snagged an old Jell-O wagon, giving the episode its name “Hello Jell-O.” She says Mike and Frank were interested in a lot of pieces of her father’s collection.

McBride says they even bought some items she never thought would sell. She says they also got them in touch with other buyers for items they didn’t take, which was a huge help in clearing out the space. She says it was fun filming the episode and discovering lost items of her dad’s collection.

Delaware was the only other state to see a decline in wages. The report finds Louisiana’s median hourly wage fell by 0.5 percent to $15.43 last year. Scott says the real surprise is that we didn’t lose more in terms of wage values. But he says the industry could rebound.

Scott says anytime you lose jobs in a high paying field like oil and gas, you should expect median wages to decrease.

A law to raise minimum age requirement to work as a stripper in a dance club passed last year, but three exotic dancers were successful in a lawsuit to get the law tossed out, and a federal judge ruled the wording was too vague. Kelly says the wording in this new proposed law is much more specific.

Strip clubs are still opposed to this proposed law. Kelly believes if you have to be 21-years-old to drink in a strip club, you should be 21 to dance without clothes on in a strip club.

In a 61-34 vote, the full House rejected a measure to ban the spanking of misbehaving kids in public schools. New Orleans Representative Joe Bouie spoke in favor of the bill. He says 31 states have banned corporal punishment in schools and research shows this form of physical punishment does not work…

Denham Springs Representative Rogers Pope spoke out against the measure. Pope is a retired school superintendent from Livingston and he says paddling is a way to discipline students without sending them home…

Senator Bill Cassidy is slated to appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live today after calling for a “Kimmel test” a new healthcare bill would need to pass. Kimmel gave an emotional monologue last week about the birth of his son who was born with a heart disease, but surgery saved his life. Cassidy said the Obamacare replacement must cover pre-existing conditions adequately.

A Covington man is facing a slew of charges amid allegations he tried to run over the 8 year old son of his girlfriend. Capt. Daniel Seuzeneau with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office says 34-year-old Shawn Porrovecchio also threw baseballs at the child then led cops on a high speed chase on I-12.:

Porrovecchio’s charges including attemted first degree murder.

A Tulane University professor has filed suit in Orleans Parish Civil District Court to keep the Beauregard statue in place stating that it is not owned by the city. Richard Marksbury argues that the City Park Improvement Association is the true owner of the monument, Mayor Mitch Landrieu would need their approval before taking it down…:

A bill that would leave it up to voters whether the state should allow traffic enforcement cameras died in the House Transportation Committee. Covington Representative Paul Hollis he conducted a poll on support for the devices and only 11-percent of respondents were in favor of keeping red light and speed cameras…:

But opponents say getting rid of them would promote bad behavior. The measure failed 14 to 1.

Also in House Transportation today, lawmakers advanced a bill that would require training in driver’s ed on how to act when you get pulled over. Plaquemine Representative Chad Brown says this is just common sense legislation…:

FEMA is hiring. Supervisor of Human Resources Specialist, Carisa Berkeley says they’re looking to hire 100 reservists from southeast Louisiana to work in the agency’s public assistance program. The Monumental Task Committee today presented what it calls new evidence to prevent New Orleans from tearing down one of the three Confederate statues slated from removal. We’re nearing the halfway point of the legislative session, and lawmakers still have a long way to go. While the biggest matter is the budget, another key agenda item is criminal justice reform. Political analyst Clancy Dubos expects lawmakers to focus primarily on nonviolent crime during this session. He says it will take the 2018 session to accomplish the goal of overall reform…:

The legislative session has reached its halfway mark, and there is still plenty of work to be done, particularly on the budget. The House has sent next fiscal year’s spending plan over to the Senate for approval. It appropriates 97.5 percent of the revenues that the State Treasury will make available. The governor says this will lead to difficult cuts, and Political analyst Clancy Dubos expects the Senate will add revenue…:

Another key agenda item is criminal justice reform.

The search has resumed for a 14-year-old who reportedly went under when his boat capsized around 7pm Saturday on Black Bayou, according to the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office. There were three other teens on the vessel at the time and all were spilled into the lake — none wearing a life jacket. The friends couldn’t rescue the missing boy. Today is day three of the search.
