LSU has announced its parting ways with offensive line coach James Cregg. Cregg has been the Tigers o-line coach since 2018 and in 2019 LSU’s offensive line was awarded the Joe Moore Award, which goes to the nation’s top blocking unit. But last season, the Tigers were just 5-and-5.

Former LSU Tigers Kevin Faulk and Brade James are on the 2022 College Football Hall of Fame ballot. So is former Louisiana Tech Quarterback Matt Dunigan, wide receiver Roger Carr, and coach Maxie Lambright.

Tomorrow, LSU Baseball begins Regional play. Centerfielder Giovanni Digiacomo re-aggravated his hamstring injury in the final regular-season series. Coach Paul Mainieri says Gio has been practicing and he expects he’ll get the start on Friday night against Gonzaga…

The Southern Jaguars baseball team is in Texas for the Austin regional that begins tomorrow. The Jags are the four-seed after winning the SWAC tournament and they join Texas, Arizona State, and Fairfield in Austin. Southern head coach Chris Crenshaw says they’ll need a full team effort.

Meanwhile, the city of Ruston is getting ready to host its first-ever NCAA Baseball Regional. Louisiana Tech will compete against North Carolina State, Alabama, and Rider for the right to advance to the super regionals. Ruston Mayor Ronny Walker says the whole city is proud of what the Bulldogs have accomplished and they expect the Love Shack to be packed for the Tech games…

Senate Finance advances a bill that would dedicate point four-five percent of the state sales tax that is set to expire in 2025 permanently to infrastructure. Port Allen Senator Rick Ward made an emotional appeal to the committee, saying he doesn’t want to see any more of his family move out of state because of Louisiana’s inadequate infrastructure.

The legislation would generate 400-million dollars every year that would go towards road and bridge improvements.

Loyola University New Orleans Law Professor Andrea Armstrong has put together a database on deaths in Louisiana prisons, jails and detention centers from 2015 to 2019. Deaths as a result of medical illness make up a majority of deaths. Armstrong says deaths by suicide and drug overdose are the second and third leading causes, and they occur primarily in local jails…

Seth Thibodaux’s eleven-year run as head coach of the Nicholls Baseball team is over. The Colonels athletics program says Thibodaux has resigned after failing to make the Southland Conference Tournament for the second consecutive year. Thibodaux was 287 and 290 as head coach of Nicholls.

McNeese has won ten of its last 12 heading into Friday’s Regional game against T-C-U on Friday night in Fort Worth, Texas. The Cowboys feature the Southland Pitcher of the Year Will Dion, who has an era of 2.81. Pokes Head Coach Justin Hill says he’s yet to decide if Dion will pitch against the Horned Frogs after pitching twice last week in the Southland Tournament…

The Washington Post reports that former LSU running back Derrius Guice is nearing a possible settlement that could result in police dropping assault charges against him. Guice was arrested last August in Virginia and he was charged with strangulation and three counts of assault and battery. The Washington Football Team cut Guice shortly after the arrest.

An over two-year rehabilitation Mississippi River Bridge project on Interstate 20 is now complete. Department of Transportation Spokesperson Erin Buchanan says the bridge in Madison Parish was built about 50 years ago and like any interstate corridor, it is well-traveled.

The $30-million-dollar project began in January of 2019 and is one of the few interstate river crossings in the state. Buchannan says the repairs were paid for with both state and federal dollars.

Buchanan says in addition to resurfacing the structure, there were also corroded bolts and other components of the bridge that were replaced.

The bridge also received modernizations with new LED lighting, cameras, and radar that are integrated into Mississippi’s IT network.

The first bill of the session to be signed into law by Governor Edwards is one that would allow sexual assault survivors to terminate their residential leases early.

New Orleans Representative Aimee Freeman says this legislation was inspired in large part by all of the LSU students who had their sexual assaults covered up by the school.

The tenant would be allowed to apply for the early termination after a wait of at least 60 days after the assault. From that point, the victim would have to pay one more month’s rent.

STAR Legal Director Morgan Lamandre says the new law is similar to an existing law but it covers a loophole that’s been particularly problematic for students.

The law, which took effect Tuesday, also allows landlords to immediately evict a tenant if they are documented as the individual who perpetrated the assault.

The law also requires the assault to be verified by a “qualified third party” such as a licensed social worker or counselor, prosecuting attorney, law enforcement officer involved in the assault investigation, a healthcare worker who administered a forensic examination, or program director of a sexual assault center such as STAR.

A Senate judiciary committee has voted down a bill that would limit the legal immunity Louisiana police officers have in wrongful death or injury cases. Shreveport Police Officers Association president Michael Carter voiced his concerns with legislation that would allow civil lawsuits against officers who acted “unreasonable”…

Carter says the legislation would also open up officers to numerous lawsuits and cops do not earn enough money to pay malpractice insurance. Veteran Shreveport police officer Kevin Goodwin says if this became law, it would change how officers would police

Baton Rouge Representative Edmond Jordan’s bill received approval from the House and it had the backing of the Louisiana Sheriff’s Association. Jordan tried to make the case that his legislation was not designed to drive good officers away from the profession

A tragic boating accident near the Lake Bistineau Spillway Tuesday claims the life of a 15-year-old Bossier Parish high schooler

The victim has been identified as Cavalry Baptist Academy football player Hayden “Lane” Mangum. Bossier Sheriff’s Lt. Bill Davis says he was out fishing with his best friend when the incident occurred.

Mangum’s friend and fellow football player, 16-year-old Cade Bedgood, managed to jump off of the boat before it began to capsize and made it back to shore safely. He then told first responders what happened.

Davis says local first responders, drone crews, and local boaters spent all yesterday evening and into the night utilizing emergency searchlights to look for Mangam.

Davis says it’s a tragic, shocking accident.

The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will investigate what led to the capsizing of the boat and the subsequent death.

Attorney General Jeff Landry blasts the LSU Faculty Senate’s request that the school adopts a mandate requiring students be vaccinated to attend classes in the fall. LSU Interim President Thomas Galligan says he’s “reviewing” the request, but Landry says there’s nothing to review and the mandate would be illegal.

LSU spokesperson Ernie Ballard says the school is looking at options and alternatives to a vaccine mandate.

State Superintendent of Education Cade Brumley says over 200-thousand kids are enrolled in summer school at public schools. Brumley says to incentivize summer school attendance they encouraged school systems to use federal funds to create more of a summer camp atmosphere…

Brumley says if your child is not attending summer school then engage them with some kind of continuing education.

Clinical trials are underway to see if an at-home nasal spray can prevent someone from getting COVID-19. Baton Rouge General Rhinologist Dr. Henry Barham oversees the trial in Louisiana and says the spray works differently from the vaccine. He says the vaccine builds up antibodies to fight off the virus when you contract it.

Barham says they are looking for around 90 additional participants for the study.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has verified that a Red Prinaha was caught in the University Lakes in Baton Rouge last week. The Red Prinaha is native to South America and the fish is illegal to possess or sell in Louisiana. Aquatic Nuisance Species Coordinator Robert Bourgeois says they are checking to see if there are more Red-bellied Piranha in the LSU lakes…

Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry says it would be illegal for LSU to mandate COVID vaccines for students to attend the university. The LSU Faculty Senate made that request and Tulane, Dilliard, Xavier, and Loyola Universities have adopted the vaccinate mandates. Landry believes that’s illegal as well…

Superintendent of Education Cade Brumley says over 200-thousand students will attend summer school at public schools to help make up for learning loss during the pandemic. Brumley says if your child is not attending summer school then you need to engage them with some kind of continuing education to keep them up to speed.

State Police confirm their troopers fatally shot a man wanted for injuring two Mississippi sheriff’s deputies. LSP says 29-year-old Michael Jackson of Vicksburg, Mississippi was fatally shot after a long standoff. Law enforcement surrounded Jackson after he crashed his car in Madison Parish and according to a release, troopers shot Jackson as he approached a safety perimeter and attempted to draw his handgun.

The university’s faculty senate says the only way to ensure a safe normal semester to mandate vaccination, but Landry says if the faculty wants to be safe they should get vaccinated themselves…

Louisiana K-12 schools will educate over 200,000 students for summer school after a year where most students spent a lot of time out of the classroom and in front of screens. Superintendent of Education Cade Brumley says they managed to have 70 percent of students back in the classroom by the end of the school year, but many still need help before the next school year…

Louisiana Tech will begin its run through the NCAA Tournament on Friday night at J-C Love Field at Pat Patterson Park when they host Rider at 6 PM. Bulldogs Coach Lane Burroughs says his message to the team is to play loose, just like in the Conference USA Tournament…

Tech’s team batting average of .308 is one of the best in the country, but do they have enough pitching. The Bulldogs team ERA has swelled to 4.82.

LSU Baseball Coach Paul Mainieri says Landon Marceaux will be the Tigers starting pitcher for their first game at the Eugene Regional against Gonzaga on Friday night. The Bulldogs are expected to counter with Alex Jacob, who has a 2.82 ERA.

One of the best stories in the NCAA Baseball Tournament is the McNeese Cowboys. The team has overcome a devastating hurricane, a paralyzing winter storm, and a historic flood at the end of the season to earn a spot at the Fort Worth regional along with TCU, Oregon State, and Dallas Baptist. Pokes Head Coach Justin Hill says his team is here due to his players’ positive mindset.

Nicholls has announced that Seth Thibodaux has resigned as the school’s baseball coach after eleven seasons. The Colonels were 21 and 34 this season and missed out on the postseason for the second consecutive year.

In football, former LSU tight end Arik Gilbert has committed to Georgia. He briefly committed to Florida after leaving the Tigers during his freshman season.

Despite a 13-17 record in the SEC, LSU received an invite into the NCAA Tournament and is the third seed in the Eugene Regional and will face Gonzaga on Friday night. There was some doubt that LSU would receive a Regional after losing to Georgia in its lone SEC Tournament game. LSU pitcher Landon Marceaux is excited their season continues and so does the coaching career of Paul Mainieri, who has announced his retirement…

Oregon and Central Connecticut are the other two teams in the Regional. The Ducks are a 14-seed nationally.

Louisiana Tech is a 16-seed nationally and they will host North Carolina State, Alabama and Rider this weekend. The Bulldogs will play the Broncos on Friday.

The McNeese baseball team is heading to Forth Worth, Texas for regional play after winning the Southland Conference tournament. Lake Charles was hit hard by Hurricane Laura last fall and head coach Justin Hill says his team had to overcome many obstacles.

McNeese joins the Forth Worth regional along with TCU, Oregon State, and Dallas Baptist.

The Southern Jaguars will play in the Austin Regional and play against the number two national seed Texas. The other regional pairing is Fairfield versus Arizona State.
