The governor has signed a bill that establishes a framework for businesses that plan to use drones to make local deliveries. Port Allen Senator Rick Ward says the devices will have to travel at a speed no higher than 12 miles per hour in pedestrian areas, can’t be used around airports and local governments can also set up their own regulations…

The Biden Administration is asking energy companies if they’d be interested in setting up offshore wind turbines in the Gulf of Mexico. LSU Center for Energy Studies Director David Dismukes says it’s the beginning of a long road towards the potential development of renewable energy in the Gulf.

A tax credit that’s worth up to 25-hundred dollars for individuals who purchase an electric car or an alternative fuel vehicle is set to expire on July 1st. Legislation changed the sunset date for the tax credit from January 1st to July 1st so Louisiana Clean Fuels Co-Coordinator Tyler Hermann says this could impact businesses or state agencies who are buying these types of vehicles…

The Pelicans and head coach Stan Van Gundy have parted ways after just one season that did not yield a playoff appearance. New Orleans went 31 and 41 and the 61-year-old Van Gundy turned out not to be a fit with a roster that features several players in their early 20s.

Former Louisiana Tech women’s basketball star and coach Teresa Weatherspoon emerged quickly based on media reports as a potential head-coaching candidate. Pelicans Executive Vice President of basketball operations, David Griffin, says that rumor was likely the result of Weatherspoon being named summer league coach…

Pels assistant Fred Vinson and Bucks’ assistant Charles Lee are also reportedly in the running for the job.

The NFL has announced new COVID protocols that will result in fans being able to attend training camp. The Saints have not made an announcement regarding fans at training camp, but that could be coming soon.

Also, players who are not fully vaccinated will have to test every day for the coronavirus during training camp. Daily testing is not required for vaccinated players. Also, players not vaccinated will have to wear masks at the club facility and during travel and once they get to the team hotel they have to stay there and can not eat at restaurants. The NFL is not mandating vaccines, but these protocols that the players association agreed to are designed to encourage players to get vaccinated.

LSU’s longtime Director of Athletic Training, Jack Marucci has received a promotion as he’ll now serve as director of Performance Innovation at the school. The school says Marucci will use his expertise in sports science to develop new ways for all of LSU’s student-athletes to prosper in competition. Marucci spent the last 25 years leading LSU’s athletic training staff.

LSU has reinstated Doctor G-E Ghali as the chancellor of the university’s medical school in Shreveport. He was suspended for two months after four women accused Ghali of sexual misconduct. Ghali said in a statement that an outside investigation cleared him of wrongdoing. An attorney representing the four who women filed the complaints said something is truly rotten in Louisiana and at LSU.

Today at 2:30, Governor Edwards will announce COVID-19 vaccine incentives in an effort to increase the number of people vaccinated against the virus. Edwards teased the announcement during his monthly radio show Ask the Governor.

One-point-five million people are fully vaccinated in Louisiana, which represents 33-percent of the population, one of the lowest percentages in the country.

If you’re planning on buying an electric vehicle in hopes of receiving a tax credit you better make that purchase in the next two weeks. Louisiana Clean Fuels Co-Coordinator Tyler Hermann says the legislature passed a bill that accelerates the sunset date of a $2,500 tax credit for the purchase of an alternative fuel vehicle.

U-L Lafayette’s football stadium has a new name. It’s now called Cajun Field at Our Lady of Lourdes Stadium. It’s the result of a 15-year, 15-million dollar naming rights deal between the school and the regional medical center based in Lafayette. The 15-million dollars will help pay for renovations at the 50-year-old stadium that will include a full-service nutrition center for all U-L athletes.

450-million dollars worth in renovations are ongoing at the Superdome. Those renovations include 12 new field-level suites being built behind the north end of the stadium. Each of the suites can hold 20 to 24 people and they are expected to be ready for the team’s preseason opener on August 23rd against the Jaguars.

The NFL and its players’ association have agreed on new COVID-19 protocols for training camp and preseason games. If a player is not vaccinated, they will have test for COVID every day, remain socially distanced from others at the club’s facility, travel separately from vaccinated players, and not allowed to leave the team hotel to eat in restaurants.

Donelon says if you do not have flood insurance and your home is flooded you may get some federal assistance to help recover your losses, but homeowners covered by flood insurance end up getting much more…

The CDC says there’s been a spike in RSV cases across the south. Respiratory syncytial (sin-SISH-uhl) virus is a common cold virus that can develop into pneumonia and be fatal. LDH Regional Medical Director for the Capital region and pediatrician Dr. Dawn Marcelle says it usually affects infants and toddlers under two years of age.

The CDC says the spreading of the virus usually dwindles in warmer months of the year and they saw a decrease during the height of the COVID pandemic as more people used mitigation measures, however, RSV cases are on the uptick again.

Marcelle says the virus can be deadly especially in those with underlying health conditions. She says there are also preemptive measures for infants who are suspectable.

Frequent handwashing along with masks will help prevent the spread and people should be especially cautious around young children who have compromised immune systems. Marcelle says children aren’t the only ones at risk.

The Biden administration’s suspension of new oil and gas leases on federal land and water was blocked by a federal judge in Louisiana. U-S District Judge Terry Doughty’s ruling Tuesday in Lafayette is from a lawsuit filed by state Attorney General Jeff Landry. Landry says it was a great ruling for the people of Louisiana.

In the ruling Doughty stated he could not find any rationale for the moratorium. Landry says he could not agree more and it’s disappointing that they have to go to court to protect jobs.

President Biden issued the moratorium in an effort to reduce carbon emissions in the U-S. Landry says Biden subscribes to the Green New Deal.
