Governor Edwards told U-S Housing and Urban Development Secretary Marcia Fudge the state is ready to spend 595-million dollars in federal disaster recovery funds to help southwest Louisiana rebuild from the 2020 hurricanes. Edwards says they are anxious for the feds to issue rules on how the grant dollars can be used.

Edwards much of the money will go to storm victims who need help to rebuild their homes and businesses. He says 90-million dollars of this allocation is also required to pay efforts…

Edwards was in Washington D-C earlier this week seeking additional money for southwest Louisiana because the 595-million is not enough. He believes the trip will help pay dividends…

The legal tussle over whether Ochsner Health can require its employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 or face termination should be resolved next month by the Louisiana Supreme Court. Loyola University law professor, Dane Ciolino, says in this case that the justices will consider…

A hearing on the matter is set for December 7th.

Ciolino expressed surprise when the state’s 2nd Court of Appeals sided with Shreveport Ochsner employees opposed to the vaccine mandate, blocking it last month.

Ciolino predicts that Ochsner Health will emerge victorious in the state Supreme Court case given that Louisiana is an “at will” state when it comes to employment.

The Biden Build Back Better Plan passed in the House this morning after an hours-long speech overnight delayed the vote. The $1.75 trillion bill will assist working families with childcare for about 300,000 young children, provide universal pre-school and Pell Grant awards.

Congressman Troy Carter says it’s so important to educate children even before kindergarten during their formative years

Opponents say the bill will cost an estimated $1.6 trillion and it’s the largest non-emergency spending measure since the 60s. President of business group LABI Stephen Waguespack says Congress needs to stop spending in this economy.

Carter says he respectively disagrees the bill will discourage citizens from re-entering the workforce, he says by assisting with childcare more parents will be able to return to work.

Waguespack says instead of helping the economy, which is at its highest in over 30 years, the BBB will do the opposite.

The bill now heads to the Senate.

Louisiana GOP Congresswoman Julia Letlow is introducing the Parents Bill of Rights Act that’s geared toward further opening the line of meaningful dialog between families and their child’s school.

Letlow says education is not a job parents or schools can do by themselves, and notes that many schools in the nation and in Louisiana are already practicing what’s in her bill.

Letlow says the legislation would also bring more transparency to a school’s budget and spending.

Meanwhile, the state of Louisiana is waiting on the federal government to promulgate the rules for how the state can spend 595-million in disaster recovery dollars recently approved by Congress. Governor Edwards says most of the money will go to storm victims who need help rebuilding homes and businesses. He says 90-million dollars is required to go towards mitigation efforts..

Edwards is also optimistic more federal recovery dollars will be made available to help southwest Louisiana rebuild from Hurricane Laura.

The injury news for the Saints is not good. Running back Alvin Kamara and starting tackles Terron Armstead and Ryan Ramczyk did not practice yesterday. Kamara was a limited participant in practice on Wednesday. There is a chance that running back Tony Jones could return from injured reserve this week. New Orleans is at Philadelphia on Sunday.

When these two teams met last year, the Eagles rushed for 246 yards in a 24-21 win. Coach Sean Payton says they are even more committed to running the football this season…

Some state lawmakers claim Louisiana Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain is moving too slowly when it comes to expanding the state’s medical-marijuana program. Kenner Representative Debbie Villio says Strain’s office is causing delays in getting the product from the grower to the pharmacy to the patients. She says it’s resulting in a lack of access and higher costs for medical marijuana. But Strain told the Louisiana Radio Network…

Peninsula Pacific has proposed building a 350-million dollar casino-resort in Slidell. But it needs voter approval, because in 1996, St. Tammany voted to ban gaming of any kind. Brees says he’s backing the project because it also includes a 35-million dollar sports complex for the youth.

Over 500-thousand people in 25 parishes that suffered damages to their property as a result of Hurricane Ida have applied for FEMA assistance…

Patients appeared before the commission complaining about the lack of access and the high cost of medical marijuana. The smokeable form is supposed to be available in January and that will help lower the cost.

The Rapides Parish School system has received the Models of Excellence award from the department of education for a program that’s helping to develop 40 students into becoming teachers one day. Superintendent of Education Doctor Cade Brumley hopes other school systems look at what Rapides is doing…

Gaming Control Board Chairman Ronnie Johns says eight casinos regulated by the state are accepting legal sports bets, while seven other casinos have applications pending. Nicholls Freshman running back Collin Guggenheim rushed for 266 yards and three touchdowns as the Colonels upset 15th ranked Southeastern Louisiana 45-42 in the River Bell Classic last night. The Lions finish the season with an 8-and-3 record and will have to wait until Sunday to find out of its that’s good enough to get into the F-C-S playoffs.

LSU Coach Ed Orgeron says Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier will not play anymore this season in order to preserve his redshirt season. Max Johnson will start tomorrow night against ULM and if something happens to Johnson, freshman walk-on Matt O’ Dowd will play.

Louisiana Tech hosts Southern Miss in the final home game of the season tonight. The Bulldogs snapped a five-game losing streak with a 42-32 win over Charlotte last Saturday. Sophomore Aaron Allen made his first start and threw for 324 yards and two touchdowns. Coach Skip Holtz says he was happy to see Allen play well…

The Louisiana Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on December seventh on whether Ochsner Health’s vaccine mandate is constitutional. District judges initially dismissed the lawsuit, but an appeals court in Shreveport issued a restraining order against the mandate preventing Ochsner from taking action against employees who are vaccinated.

Voters in St. Tammany Parish will soon decide the future of the proposed Camellia Bay Casino, Resort and youth sports complex. Developers have brought in a heavy hitter to help win them over; former Saints quarterback Drew Brees. Payton let it be known he’s not happy with the officiating this season when he appeared on the Dan Patrick Show today. The Saints were on the wrong end of a roughing the passer call that resulted in the Titans scoring a touchdown. Payton says the problems start at the top, not the individual crews, somehow they got to reduce the variables.

It’s a busy night of sports across the Bayou State. In Hammond, Southeastern Louisiana football will host Nicholls in the River Bell Classic. If the Lions win, they’ll clinch at least a share of the Southland Confernece title and most likely a home playoff game in the FCS playoffs. A win for the Colonels and they will end the year with a winning record for a fifth consecutive season.

LSU men’s basketball hosts McNeese. The Tigers are 3-and-0 on the season, while the Cowboys are 1-and-2. LSU has won 25 straight games against Louisiana schools. Also, NIcholls is at TC, while Southeastern visits SMU.

The Lady Tigers basketball team is at U-L Lafayette. The Lady Cajuns have not beaten LSU since 1974.

The second round of the high school football playoffs begins tonight. St James is at Madison Prep in a game featuring the last two champions in Class 3A. The winner could face top-seeded Sterlington in the quarterfinals next week. The Panthers are at Westlake tomorrow.

Tonight’s NFL game is Atlanta hosting the New England Patriots.
