Who will be the quarterback when the Tigers face Kansas State in the Texas Bowl on January fourth. Interim head coach Brad Davis says they hope Garrett Nussmeier will be the guy, as they seek a waiver from the NCAA for him to be able to play in the bowl game but still maintain his redshirt season. If Nussmeier doesn’t play, it’s unclear who will start at Q-B.

The 19th ranked LSU men’s basketball team improved to 10-0 as they easily defeated Northwestern State 89-49 last night. LSU leads the nation in scoring defense and held to the Demons to 15 points in the first half, the lowest point total allowed by LSU during the Will Wade area. Tari Eason came off the bench to score 18 points to lead LSU.

The Tigers are in Bossier City this Saturday night to play Louisiana Tech at the Brookshire Grocery Arena. The Bulldogs won their fourth straight last night as they defeated the Pilots 84-70. David Green scored a career-high 21 points to lead Tech.

Sophomore Jordan Brown had 13 points and 14 points, but the Ragin Cajuns lost to 14th ranked Houston 71-56 at the Fertitta Center.

ULM hit 11-three-pointers and beat Stephen F Austin 82-69. Southeastern Louisiana was 6-for-33 from the three-point line and the Lions lost to Louisville 86-60. And UAB beat Grambling 79-61.

Governor John Bel Edwards says despite a House committee’s vote against adding the COVID vaccine to the school immunization schedule he still plans to do so. The rule will go into effect for the Fall of 2022 school year and like all vaccines, parents have the ability for their child to opt-out.

For now, the COVID vaccine would only be added to the list of shots required to attend school for those 16 and up, since the F-D-A has fully authorized the vaccine for those 16 and older.

State lawmakers gather in Lake Charles today for the LegisGator Luncheon. The Louisiana Craft Brewers Guild will begin a lobbying push to convince lawmakers to change the regulations in place for the craft brewing industry. Cary Koch says Louisiana is in a “last mover” position when it comes to locally produced beer and he hopes today’s billboard campaign in Lake Charles will help spur legislators into action.

A helicopter crashed onto I-10 yesterday over the Bonnet Carre Spillway in St. Charles Parish in foggy conditions. Officials say the pilot was the lone fatality and the chopper also knocked out electricity for area residents when it hit an Entergy Louisiana transmission line.

LSU interim coach Brad Davis said today the Tigers are hoping freshman Garrett Nussmeier can play in the Texas Bowl against Kansas State on January fourth but maintain his redshirt season. Nussmeier is the only scholarship quarterback on the roster, but if he plays in the Texas Bowl, he can not use this as a red-shirt season and still have four years of eligibility left. Davis says they have several quarterbacks taking reps, but didn’t say who, but is confident they’ll be able to move the ball against the Wildcats.

The Saints are an eleven-point underdog heading into Sunday night’s match-up with the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers. So will Coach Sean Payton use the big point spread as extra motivation????

Longtime TCU special teams’ coordinator-slash-coach Dan Sharp has been named assistant head coach and special teams coach at Louisiana Tech. Bulldogs head coach Sonny Cumbie says Sharp has been in charge of some of the most well-coached, explosive special teams’ units he’s seen.

Cajuns starting running back Chris Smith is questionable for Saturday’s New Orleans Bowl against Marshall. Coach Michael Desormeaux says Smith is dealing with a banged-up knee. He’s rushed for a team-high 855 yards and eight touchdowns this season.

A state police detective who investigated if troopers used excessive force in the death of Ronald Greene answered questions from the Senate Select Committee on State Police Oversite and told lawmakers his recommendations were ignored by his superiors. LSP Sgt. Albert Paxton answered a series of questions by Monroe Senator Katrina Jackson.

In May 2019 Major Jason Turner was in charge of the criminal investigation of officers and head of the investigation into Greene’s death. Turner was later promoted by LSP Superintendent Lamar Davis to head of the Criminal Investigative Division and part of his job was to see how other states managed use of force complaints

Police body camera footage of Greene’s arrest was made public by the Associated Press in May of this year, two years after his death. Paxton was asked by Jackson if he’s ever had issues collecting footage

Officers who were directly involved in the Greene arrest were asked to appear before the committee and did not. Paxton also told members about the frustration he vented to a member of the Employee Assistance Program.

St. Tammany voters’ rejection of Pacific Peninsula’s proposal to use its gambling license for a casino resort near Slidell, it’s going back to Diamond Jacks in Bossier City. Wade Duty, executive director of the Louisiana Casino Association:

Duty says that answer will be hashed out between the license holder and the state’s Gaming Control Board should the choice be not to reopen Diamond Jacks that’s been closed since May of 2020, the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Duty says as it stands the license holder of Diamond Jacks must continue operation of the facility within 60 days of losing the St. Tammany election unless something else can be worked out with the Gaming Control Board:

Duty says it’s not a requirement in the state that all 15 riverboat licenses be active, should Diamond Jacks remain closed, but it’s likely that a request for proposals will go out should the license be forfeited.

The state health department says 650,000 eligible children in Louisiana are not vaccinated against COVID, while 123,000 5-to-17 year-olds have completed the vaccine series. Doctor Catherine O’ Neal  at Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge is a mother and understands parents’ concerns, but they shouldn’t worry about this vaccine

O’ Neal says the risks of COVID-19 to children far outweigh the risks of vaccination.

The Edwards administration plans to add the COVID-19 vaccine to the list of shots that a child needs in order to attend school. O’Neal says if not required parents may never get their children vaccinated against COVID…

The state can only require COVID vaccines for those 16 and up because the Pfizer vaccine has received full FDA approval for that age group.

O’Neal says she’s frustrated with the misinformation about the COVID vaccine. She says the COVID vaccine or any other approved vaccine is not responsible for autism in children or fertility issues…

Today marks the one-year anniversary of the first COVID vaccine administered in Louisiana. More than two-point-two million, nearly 50 percent of the state’s population is fully vaccinated against COVID.

Well-known civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump says he’ll file suit against the Louisiana Department of Children & Family Services over a child sex abuse and trafficking case. Crump says the case involves two girls that were sexually assaulted over a ten-year period, despite reports of the crimes being reported to DCFS and law enforcement..

The mother of Ronald Greene addressed members of the Senate Select Committee on State Police Oversight yesterday bout the death of her son during a traffic stop in Union Parish in May of 2019. Mona Hardin says she still doesn’t know the truth about her son’s death.

The FBI is investigating Greene’s death and if there was a cover-up. Body camera video of the arrest shows several white troopers punching and stunning Greene, a black motorist. The LSP originally said Greene died from injuries sustained in a car crash.

Nationally known civil rights lawyer Ben Crump is planning to sue the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services claiming the state agency failed to investigate sex abuse claims by two Black teenagers made against politically connected John Mack of Livingston Parish…

Mack was arrested in October on rape and sexual battery charges, but the victims say the allegations date back to 2014. DCFS says it’s pursuing an independent audit of the case.

If the season ended today, the Saints would not make the playoffs. New Orleans is six and seven, but the team that occupies the final playoff spot in the NFC, Washington, also has a record fo six and seven.

Meanwhile, Tampa Bay is battling Green Bay and Arizona for the top spot in the NFC playoffs. The Cardinals dropped to 10-and-3 on the season after losing to the Rams 30-23 last night. Odell Beckham Junior had a TD catch for L-A.

The 9-and-0 LSU men’s basketball team has moved up six spots in the latest A-P Top 25 poll to number 19. They are up four spots in the coaches’ poll to number 20.

Sophomore forward Tari Eason was named SEC Player of the Week after scoring a career-high 23 points in the Tigers win over Georgia Tech on Saturday. LSU hosts Northwestern State tonight.

Also tonight, Louisiana Tech hosts L-S-U Shreveport, the Ragin Cajuns are at 14th ranked Houston, while ULM visits Stephen F Austin.
