The Cajuns improved to 10-3 with the win, and LSU fell to 11-3 with the loss.

The Nicholls baseball team also pulled off an impressive upset last night after beating tenth-ranked Southern Mississippi three-to-two. It’s the Colonel’s first win over a top 25 opponent since last year’s eight-to-five victory over Southern Miss.

Louisiana Tech baseball dropped its fifth straight game last night after falling eight-to-two to Arkansas State. The Bulldogs will try to get back in the win column tomorrow as they take on South Alabama in Mobile at 6:30 p.m.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Saints veteran defensive end Cameron Jordan will not have a new deal in place with New Orleans by next week and will hit free agency for the first time in his NFL career. Jordan will return for a 16th NFL season and is said to be open to leaving New Orleans.

The LSU women’s basketball team will enter the SEC Tournament as a projected two seed in the NCAA Tournament. Three of the four number-one seeds are essentially locked up by UConn, UCLA and South Carolina. If the Tigers can secure the fourth and final top seed, ESPN Bracketologist Charlie Crème believes it will create a more favorable path to the national championship.

Louisiana Tech women’s basketball looks to extend its winning streak to 17 games tonight when it hosts New Mexico State at 6:30 p.m.

An earthquake jolts Red River Parish early this morning. Rob Skoumal (SKO-mall) with the U.S. Geological Survey says it was a magnitude 4.9 that struck near Coushatta at around 5:30 this morning.

Skoumal says there will likely be aftershocks, with a very slight chance of one registering at least a magnitude 4.0.

U-L Lafayette held LSU to seven hits and the Tigers struggled in the field with three more errors.

A New Orleans representative is trying again with legislation aimed at cracking down on the use of artificial intelligence in political materials. Joe Gallinaro reports.

Governor Jeff Landry has sent a letter to school superintendents urging them to display the Ten Commandments in the classroom. Landry says students will benefit from seeing the Ten Commandments in their classroom. A federal appeals court ruled last month that the state’s Ten Commandments law can go into effect. It’s an issue the U-S Supreme Court will likely have to rule on.

Louisiana Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain says the state’s crawfish industry is dealing with a significant labor shortage. Strain told state lawmakers that crawfish processing plants do not have enough workers to peel and package crawfish, because the federal government has put a cap on foreign guest workers.

Several crawfish processing plants have shut their doors as a result.

Shintech Louisiana, which produces PVC that’s used in the construction of pipes and window frames, has announced a three-point-four billion dollar expansion to its facility in Iberville Parish. Shintech received an incentives package from the state through the FastStart, Industrial Tax Exemption and Quality Jobs programs. Iberville Parish President Chris Daigle says the collaboration will benefit the entire area.

The investment will provide hundreds of construction jobs and result in 163 new direct jobs.

State Treasurer and Republican US Senate candidate John Fleming says Trump officials offered him a job with the C-D-C in an effort to get him out of the Republican Senate Primary. Fleming says the most recent offer came from Ralph Abraham who just left the CDC as principal deputy director. Abraham is now working for the Letlow campaign. Fleming says he’s staying in the Senate race and intends to unseat Bill Cassidy.

The UL-Lafayette baseball team is set to host second-ranked LSU tonight in front of a sold-out Tigue. The Cajuns used only eight pitchers in their series win over UC San Diego last weekend. Head coach Matt Deggs says the team is prepared to do whatever it takes to secure a marquee win and boost its RPI.

Yesterday, Team USA dominated Tony Vitello’s San Francisco Giants 15-1 in an exhibition game leading up to group play for the World Baseball Classic. Former LSU Tigers Paul Skenes and Alex Bregman both had big games. Skenes struck out four hitters in three innings while only allowing one run. Bregman was just one of two players to leave the yard after he launched a solo shot in the fourth inning.

ULM baseball will conclude its midweek series with Southeastern tonight at 6 p.m.

Louisiana Tech baseball continues to struggle as they were blown out again last night, falling to Arkansas State ten to two. That’s four consecutive losses in Ruston for the Bulldogs, which is the first time that’s happened since 2014. Head coach Lane Burroughs says he did not like his team’s effort.

Tech looks to avenge its loss to Arkansas State tonight as the Bulldogs conclude the midweek series with the Red Wolves at 6 p.m.

The UL-Lafayette men’s basketball team secured an 84-75 win over Georgia State in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament last night. The Cajuns will try to survive and advance tonight when they face James Madison at 5 p.m.

Oak Grove’s Caroline Bradley continued to show why she’s the top-ranked center in the class of 2027 last night with a 29-point, 20-rebound performance against Westlake. Despite the big performance, the Tigers fell 46-45 to Westlake in the Division III non-select state semifinals.

According to AAA, gas prices for regular gasoline increased another 12-cents over night to a statewide average of $2.84. That’s up 28-cents in the last week. Gas prices typically increase this time of year with the transition to summer blend; but this year, there’s the added factor of the war in Iran, leading to a spike in oil prices. Governor Landry has endorsed Julia Letlow over incumbent Bill Cassidy in the U-S Senate race. Landry says Letlow has the kind of raw Louisiana grit that Washington desperately needs. Meanwhile, the other major Republican candidate, John Fleming, claims an effort was made to get him out of the race by offering him the job of Deputy Director of the CDC, which Ralph Abraham just stepped down from.

A Tickfaw woman is behind bars after allegedly abandoning her eight-year-old son inside a Ponchatoula laundromat.

Former DeRidder Mayor Misty Roberts has been found guilty on felony charges for having sex with a 16-year-old boy during a party at her home when she was mayor in 2024. It took a six-person jury less than an hour to convict the 42-year-old Roberts of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and indecent behavior. Reporter Pamela Sleezer covered the trial for the American Press and says the evidence was stacked against Roberts…

Roberts will be sentenced April 17^th.

A statewide poll of Louisiana voters shows approval ratings for Governor Landry have fallen. The Pelican Institute for Public Policy surveyed 762 Louisiana voters, and 43-percent approve of Landry’s job performance. Last year Landry’s approval rating was 58-percent.

Another jump in gas prices. Greg Upton, the executive director of LSU’s Center for Energy Studies, says while you were sleeping, gas prices increased another 12 cents.

State officials call it a game-changer for how Louisiana competes for major economic development projects. Louisiana Economic Development launches the FastSites program. Governor Landry says it’s a program in which the state invests money to make sites shovel-ready for economic development projects.

Landry says the state is providing 140-million dollars for 19 sites in 16 parishes.

47-percent of Louisiana respondents disapprove of the President’s job performance.

The director of Invest in Louisiana, Jan Moeller, says information has been provided to the joint legislative budget committee that the state could see budget deficits in future years, because revenues have plateaued, but  state spending continues to grow. One example is the proposed 82-million -dollar increase in funding for the Department of Corrections. Meanwhile, the state must make up for a loss in federal dollars because of the budget bill approved by Congress in 2025.

Legislative leaders believe they make wise budget decisions for next fiscal year, they can stave off major cuts in the future.
