The sixth-ranked LSU women’s basketball team capped off senior night with an 89-73 win over Tennessee last night. Junior guard Mikaylah Williams recorded a double-double, as she led the team with a team-high 20 points and 10 rebounds. In her final regular-season home game at LSU, Flau’jae Johnson scored 10 points and had three rebounds. Johnson, who is also a successful hip-hop artist, says she’s been able to accomplish both basketball and music through hard work.

Last night, the Louisiana Tech men’s basketball team defeated Missouri State 72-70 to improve to 16-12 on the year. Junior guard DJ Dudley scored 27 points in the win.

The second-ranked LSU baseball team looks to bounce back tonight against Dartmouth after suffering its first loss of the season to McNeese on Tuesday. The Tigers will most likely be without Chris Stanfield this weekend as he continues to deal with a hand injury. Even without Stanfield, LSU is lighting up the scoreboard, averaging 11.4 runs a game. Coach Jay Johnson says multiple players have done a good job stepping up and producing in his absence.

Louisiana Tech baseball looks to keep its four-game winning streak going as the Bulldogs play host to twelfth-ranked Southern Miss this weekend. First pitch on Friday is at 6 p.m.

The UL-Lafayette baseball team is one of the hottest teams in the country as the Cajuns are riding a seven-game winning streak. The Cajuns will host UC San Diego this weekend and first pitch tonight is at 6 p.m.

The Louisiana Public Service Commission will perform an audit of Delta Utilities’ billing and costs this summer. Many customers in the Baton Rouge and New Orleans areas are upset over their high gas bills. Rahsha Williams is the head of a community center in Baton Rouge, and she told the Public Service Commission that Delta Utilities natural gas bills are a real problem.

Delta Utilities spokeswoman Sarah Porteus says gas bills are high because demand is higher in the winter months, and the cost of natural gas increased 150-percent from September to February.

Porteus says customers who are unable to pay their bill can contact Delta Utilities to work out a payment plan.

 

The West Carroll Gazette will continue publishing a weekly paper. The 116-year-old publication has been saved because it has been bought by the West Carroll Chamber of Commerce. Local businessman Adam Holland is on the Chamber’s board of directors and says longtime readers of the West Carroll Gazette are thrilled with the news…

An Alabama man has been arrested after he allegedly urged a teenager in Lafourche Parish to kill herself after the two met each other on the online gaming platform Roblox. LaFourche Parish Sheriff’s Captain Brennan Matherne says 24-year-old Landen Westfall also got the girl to send him nude photos of herself. Matherne says Westfall faces multiple charges and might not be a free man again if convicted…

A little bit of a slow start, but the fifth-ranked LSU women’s basketball team eventually got it going and defeated Tennessee 89 to 73 to clinch a double bye in next week’s SEC Tournament. It was also the final regular-season home game for Flau’Jae Johnson, who had ten points. Johnson is looking forward to seeing what this team can do in March…

Louisiana Tech’s DJ Dudley had 27 points as the Bulldogs edged Missouri State 72 to 70. Will Allen had 13 points and scored the winning basket as he followed up a missed shot with a layup with eight seconds left.

The Pelicans defeated the tanking Utah Jazz 129 to 118. Saddiq Bey had 42 points!

LSU baseball coach Jay Johnson provided updates on sophomore catcher Cade Arrambide and senior outfielder Chris Stanfield. Arrambide, who left Tuesday’s game against McNeese with a foot injury, is expected to play this weekend. Johnson said Stanfield is recovering from a hand injury but does not anticipate him playing this weekend.

New Orleans Saints veteran center Will Clapp has announced he’s retiring after eight seasons in the NFL. Clapp suffered a foot injury in the preseason, which caused him to mis the entire 2025 season. The New Orleans native played six of his eight seasons with the Saints.

NFL combine workouts begin today, and LSU wide receivers Aaron Anderson, Barion Brown, Chris Hilton Jr., and Zavion Thomas will have the opportunity to boost their draft stocks after the Tigers struggled offensively in 2025. Mike Detillier of WWL Radio says he believes Anderson is the most NFL-ready of the group.

Devonta Lee, a former standout wide receiver at LSU, Louisiana Tech, and Amite High, has died after battling bone cancer.

The LSU men’s basketball team secured its first win since January after defeating Ole Miss 106-99 in double overtime last night. With the win, the Tigers improved to 15-and-13 on the year.

The Louisiana Tech men’s basketball team will host Missouri State tonight at 6:30 p.m.

A former Amite high school football star, who played at LSU and Louisiana Tech has died from bone cancer. Devonta Lee was a four-star recruit and played for three seasons at LSU. He caught two passes during LSU’s 2019 national championship season. When he transferred to Tech in 2022 he was diagnosed with bone cancer. At one point he was considered cancer free, but the cancer came back and Lee has passed away at the age of 27.

This run of dry weather we’ve had lately has pushed the state into drought conditions. State Climatologist Jay Grymes says currently, about three-fourths of the state is in a drought, with half of the state rated as severe to extreme drought.

Grymes says the drought is making life very tough for many people, not just firefighters.

One state lawmaker wants you to pay attention when crossing crosswalks, or pay up. Chalmette Republican Representative Mike Bayham has filed a bill that would prohibit people from looking at their cell phones while crossing crosswalks. Bayham says it’s a modern-day safety issue.

And if the driver also has his face in his cell phone while driving – which is now illegal in the state, thanks to the work of the legislature last year – that’s a recipe for disaster. Bayham notes that pedestrians are defenseless against motor vehicles.

Bayham says his goal is not to make criminals out of those pedestrians – under his bill, the infraction would be a misdemeanor penalized with a fine of just 25 dollars.

A 53-year-old Metairie woman has been charged in connection with the death of a Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s deputy who was struck and killed during a funeral procession on January 30th. New Orleans Police Captain Anthony Micheu (Mee-shoo) says Erica Katsanis was impaired when she struck Deputy Christopher Ohlmeyer’s motorcycle from behind…

Micheu did not say what drugs were in Katsanis’ toxicology report, but they believe she ignored the warning labels for those drugs.

Deputy Ohlmeyer was 41-years-old. He is survived by his wife and their two children.

St. Bernard Parish Republican Mike Bayham has filed a bill that would result in a 25-dollar fine for a person who is walking across the street in the crosswalk, but is looking at their phone and not paying attention to the traffic….

Bayham notes it’s against the law to handle your cell phone while driving and pedestrians should also face punishment if they are paying attention to their phone while crossing the street.

Another bill that will be up for debate in the legislative session is a proposed constitutional amendment by state senator Jay Morris. The West Monroe Republican would like to see a mechanism for the removal of a judge or a district attorney upon the recommendation of the governor.

Morris says Louisiana residents are fed up with a system that allows repeat violent offenders to cycle through the courts without consequence.

The LSU men’s basketball team ended its five game losing streak with a double overtime win over Ole Miss, 106 to 99. Afterwards the president and CEO of FMOL Health, EJ Kuiper, said coach Matt McMahon deserves another season. Kuiper is an influential booster of LSU athletics.

A poll of nearly 28-hundred parents and caregivers shows how costly childcare is in Louisiana. More than 10-thousand dollars per year for one child, nearly 21-thousand dollars for two children. Mattilyn Karst Batson, the research and policy director for the Louisiana Policy Institute for Children, says a majority of the parents polled said they worried about paying for childcare and in some cases decided to quit their job.

A West Monroe state senator, Jay Morris has filed a bill that would create a mechanism for the removal of a judge or a district attorney upon the recommendation of the governor. He says he filed the bill because of what he calls a disturbing and repeated pattern of breakdowns within Louisiana’s juvenile justice system.

Morris says this process is not to be used if, for example, the governor simply disagrees with a judge’s ruling; instead, it’s intended to be used if that judge sentences the convict outside of the sentencing guidelines.

A state senator is proposing a constitutional amendment that he says would restore accountability in Louisiana’s justice system. Andrew Greenstein reports.

Northwestern State has announced the removal of Amy Step and Trey Jackson as coaches of the Northwestern State cheerleading team after an investigation looking into hazing allegations. Northwestern says the school identified areas reflecting lack of appropriate oversight and control of the program. Coach Step disagrees with the findings and there are former and current cheerleaders are calling the firing unjust.

 

A poll of nearly 28-hundred parents and caregivers shows how costly child care is in Louisiana. Mattilyn Karst Batson, the research and policy director for the Louisiana Policy Institute for Children, says parents reported spending an average of 870 dollars per child per month, or more than ten-thousand dollars a year.

It’s a rodeo competition, a music concert and there’s also a street fest at champions square. James Trawick is the CEO of the Hondo Rodeo Fest and says they chose Louisiana because the state has some of the best rodeo competitors in the U.S.
