There are other in-state matchups on the schedule for tomorrow. ULM hosts Nicholls and Grambling and Northwestern State will face each other in Shreveport. Louisiana Tech has its season opener against Stephen F Austin, while the Ragin Cajuns look to extend the nation’s best winning streak to 15 games. A couple of other games of note, McNeese is at Rice and Southeastern Louisiana visits Florida Atlantic.

The Saints kick-off the season on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons. NFL analyst Mike Detillier says a key for the Black and Gold is to protect quarterback Jameis Winston, because he has a lot of talent around him this season…

The Saints have reportedly reached a five year contract extension with center Erik McCoy. McCoy could make up to 64-million dollars in the deal and 40 million dollars is guaranteed. McCoy was a second round pick in 2019 and has played in 44 games in his first three seasons.

The Queen weathered several royal scandals, for example, the fallout from Princess Diana’s death. Social media in Houma is abuzz over reports of a live tiger being spotted in downtown Houma. The Houma police department told a New Orleans TV station that they’ve received multiple calls about a loose tiger, but they have not laid eyes on any exotic animal.

37-year-old Bridgette Hull has lost her job as Executive Secretary of the Louisiana State Board of Private Security Examiners after she was one of two people arrested on Tuesday on drugs and weapons charges following a pursuit down I-12 in Livingston Parish. Records show Hull was a state employee making 85-thousand dollars a year.

Tomorrow marks the statistical peak of the hurricane season and the tropics remain relatively quiet. The National Hurricane Center continues to monitor Hurricane Earl in the middle of the Atlantic and there’s also a couple of tropical waves, but nothing poses a threat to land. Keim says this year’s hurricane season is actually running behind a normal season.

Below normal numbers this year stem from the Saharan air layer that blows off the African Continent, which isn’t conducive to storms. Keim says this causes the atmosphere to be more aberrant than usual.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is celebrating a successful breeding season for the endangered whooping crane . LDWF biologist Sara Zimorski says eight more chicks have reached fledgling stage in south Louisiana that’s out of the 15 that hatched….

The first wild hatched Louisiana chick came in April of 2016, the first to hatch in the state in more than 75 years. Zimorski says the eight chicks this year is the highest ever for any of the reintroduction projects nationwide. She says dry conditions may have helped during this breeding season from February until June…

Louisiana began its reintroduction project in 2011 when ten juvenile whooping cranes were released at the White Lake Wetlands Conservation Area in Vermilion Parish. The population is now up to 76. Zimorski says whooping cranes are slow to mature and only lay one or two eggs a year, but she hopes  this year’s record is the beginning of a trend.

Fledglings redefined as a bird that has feathers and wing muscles good enough to fly, but that is still dependent on their mother for food.

The Registered Apprenticeship grant program has over 75 different programs offered and over 38-hundred active apprentices in Louisiana, which gives people the option to detour college and jump straight into the workforce. Louisiana Workforce Commission spokesperson Chris Fiore says the program is flourishing…

Fiore says the possibilities are endless being that the program has partnered with multiple businesses that allow workers to collect money while receiving hands-on training.

The Louisiana National Guard is holding a town hall meeting to discuss the renaming of Camp Beauregard. The name is changing due to its confederate roots. The meeting is tonight at 6 p.m. at the Camp Beauregard Post Theater, and is open to the public.

The state’s farming community is concerned about the loss of soybean crops due to excessive rainfall in August. Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain says we will not know the full effect until the beans are harvested, but federal assistance is likely. He says Congresswoman Julie Letlow’s role on the Appropriations Committee will be an asset…
