New federal labor numbers show Louisiana’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for September was just 3.4-percent. The lowest rate in the state’s history. Louisiana Workforce Commission Secretary Ava Cates says this marks 19 consecutive months of declines in jobless claims.

Early voting begins tomorrow for the November eighth election. You’ll find eight constitutional amendments on the ballot. Amendments one asks voters to increase the cap on the amount of monies in certain state funds that may be invested in stocks to 65-percent. The Louisiana Attorney General’s Office along with your local sheriffs’ department is distributing free child ID kits to students in kindergarten through fifth grades. East Baton Rouge Sheriff Sid Gautreaux says parents can use the kits to store their child’s fingerprints, a DNA sample, physical identification information, and recent photos that can be given to law enforcement in abduction and runaway cases…

The next time you are in Baton Rouge, you can check out a sunken ferry along the banks the Mississippi River that’s now visible because of the low river water level. State Archeologist Chip McGimsey says the ferry sank in 1915 and it’s located just over the levee near the intersection of North Street and River Road..

Louisiana’s unemployment rate for September was 3-point-four-percent, it’s the fourth consecutive month of record-breaking low unemployment rates for the state. The suspected shooter in last Friday morning’s shooting at a Southern University fraternity house that injured eleven people is in custody. U-S Marhals arrested 22-year-old Jaicedric Williams at his home yesterday. He’s been charged with eleven counts of attempted first degree murder.

Since the Mississippi River water levels have dropped, a rare opportunity to see the remains of a ferry boat that sank in 1915 has arisen.

The LSU Tigers are ranked 18th in the Associated Press Top 25 poll after handing Ole Miss its first loss of the season, a 45-20 victory for the Tigers. LSU got another outstanding performance from quarterback Jayden Daniels who accounted for five touchdowns. He threw for 248 yards and two scores and rushed for another 121 yards and 3 TDs. Daniels says the offense has come a long way since the season opener…

LSU has been fined 250-thousand dollars by the SEC because the student section rushed the field after Saturday’s game ended.

Former LSU Quarterback Joe Burrow threw for 481 yards and three touchdowns as the Bengals defeated the Falcons 35-17.

The Pelicans rallied back from a 17-point deficit in the fourth quarter last night but lost to Utah 122 to 121 in O-T for New Orleans first loss of the season. The Pels did not have Brandon Ingram or Zion Williamson at the end of the game. Ingram left in the first half because of a possible concussion and Williamson injured his hip. The Pelicans are at Dallas tomorrow.

Louisiana Tech football suffered a hard-fought loss on homecoming to Rice on Saturday as the Owls defeated the Bulldogs 42-41 in overtime. Tech Coach Sonny Cumbie decided to go for two and the win after scoring a touchdown in overtime, but freshman QB Landry Lyddy’s pass was incomplete. Cumbie on his decision to go for two…

Authorities in Baton Rouge have arrested the suspected shooter in last Friday morning’s mass shooting at a Southern University fraternity house that injured eleven people. U-S Marshals took into custody yesterday 22-year-old Jaicedric Williams. He’s been charged with 11 counts of attempted first-degree murder. The suspected shooter is not a student at Southern.

There’s a gun buyback program scheduled for Saturday in Jeanerette. The program is a faith-based effort to get guns off the street and help prevent further violence. Organizer Felton Hogan says the buyback will start at noon Saturday at Jeanerette’s King Joseph Recreational Center. Hogan says his group had a successful buyback in New Iberia recently as well…:

Hogan says they’ll pay up to $300, depending on the gun. He encourages young people – who shouldn’t have dangerous weapons anyway – to take advantage…no questions asked…:

The Department of Children and Family Services plans to hire 50 nurses to make home visits to infants who were exposed to substance abuse by their mothers while pregnant. DCFS Secretary Marketa Garner Walters says five years ago the department was ordered to come into compliance with follow-up visits for those infants.

DCFS came under fire after a two-year-old’s overdosed death from fentanyl and the agency received multiple warnings about the child and other child welfare incidents. So far 11 nurses have been hired and 11 more are in the process of onboarding. Walters says the purpose of nurse visits is to see that the mother understands how to protect their infant especially when drug abuse could cloud their judgment and…

And if a nurse encounters a visit where they sense the child is in danger, Walters says DCFS will act.

Walters says she feels it will greatly improve a child’s welfare because people are more likely to be more honest with a nurse and their homelife can be more accurately assessed.

The State Supreme Court refused to allow the ban on non-unanimous jury verdicts be retroactive. The ruling denies new trials for as many as 15-hundred inmates convicted by divided jurors. Loyola University Law Professor Dane Ciolino says as a practical matter it’s an important decision.

The U.S. Supreme Court declined to make non-unanimous verdicts retroactive two years ago which Ciolino says left advocates to appeal to the state’s highest court for those incarcerated by juries 10-2 or 11-1.

Ciolino says when the law passed in the state legislature it specifically addressed that non-unanimous verdicts would not be retroactive, but says lawmakers are free to change that law.

Early voting for the November eighth election begins Tuesday and there will not be a U-S Senate debate. Republican U-S Senator John Kennedy’s challengers want one, but Kennedy says he’s busy between his work in Washington D-C and talking with voters directly around the state….

Kennedy also points out debates are often hosted by partisan groups that hope he will make some gaffe that can be exploited.

A report from the state legislative auditor’s office says as a result of more fuel efficiency vehicles and the expected increase in electric charging vehicles, the state will lose 563-million dollars in motor fuel tax revenues from 2023 to 2032. Performance Audit Manager Gina Brown says this means less funding for our roads, so state lawmakers need to consider other options to fund transportation needs…

Baton Rouge Police say nine people were shot at a fraternity house near the Southern University campus this morning. None of the injuries are considered life threatening and no arrests have been announced.
