The MegaMillions Multistate Lottery Jackpot is approaching $1 billion dollars, that’s a billion with a “B.” The $910 million prize is one of the largest in U.S. lottery history. Dustin Annison with the Louisiana Lottery says tonight’s jackpot has a cash value of $464.2 million.

Annison says sales in Louisiana through this MegaMillions Jackpot run that began on April 19th are more than $12.9 million.

To be eligible for tonight’s drawing you must purchase your ticket by 9 PM. And if you don’t have all the winning numbers on your ticket Annison says don’t toss it aside too quickly…

Temperatures are expected to reach triple digits once again baking the Bayou State starting this weekend. State Climatologist Barry Keim says there’s no true insight into the dome of high pressure that has parked itself over the south.

Dangerous heat with peak index values of 102-104 degrees is forecasted for Shreveport and Monroe. Keim says the state will see oppressive heat indices…

This stretch of hot weather will continue well into next week across the state. Keim urges everyone not to spend a lot of time outdoors when the heat index hits dangerous triple digits.

Louisiana students who received reduced-price lunches and breakfast will be able to get those meals at no cost now thanks to Marrero Representative Kyle Green’s legislation. Green says because Louisiana is such an impoverished state there’s a great need to also provide meals to these 7,000 students.

Providing additional free meals will cost the state about $859,000. Green says it’s an investment in the education of students because you can’t learn on an empty stomach. He says another benefit of the bill is to end the practice of lunch shaming in schools.

Green, who’s running for re-election, says this is just the beginning. He plans to introduce legislation in the future to expand the program to include all students.

Green credits the Louisiana Budget Project for helping him get the legislation across the finish line this legislative session.

Former LSU Baseball Coach Paul Mainieri will be inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame tomorrow night during a ceremony in Natchitoches. Mainieri coached at LSU for 15 seasons and won four SEC regular season titles and six SEC Tournament championships. He led the Tigers to a national title in 2009…

Mainieri and two-time Super Bowl champion quarterback Eli Manning highlight the 2023 induction class, which also includes former LSU wide receiver Wendell Davis and former Tulane star Matt Forte (For-tay). An Opelousas man has received a 26-month sentence after attempting to use a fake 20-dollar bill at a local donut shop last August. 33-year-old Gabriel Bates pleased guilty in a federal courtroom to counterfeiting. Secret Service agents also found numerous fake 20 and 100 dollar bills at his home.

Bengals fans had to be freaking out yesterday after video showed Pro Bowl QB Joe Burrow being carted off the field after injuring his calf while scrambling out of the pocket. ESPN is reporting Burrow has a calf strain.

WBRZ-TV in Baton Rouge is reporting the autopsy on former LSU student Madison Brooks found no DNA inside her from the suspects who were in a vehicle with her when she was allegedly raped before she died. The NAACP says the charges should be dropped, while District Attorney Hillar Moore is upset these details were leaked.

Local officials in the Lake Charles area continue to express frustration over tolls being used to fund the construction of a new I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge. The state department of transportation proposed a toll schedule that it would cost over 12-dollars for a large truck with a toll tag to cross the new bridge, almost 19-dollars without a tag. Lake Charles Representative Phillip Tarver says that would put more trucks on the I-210 bridge….

These concerns are expected to be brought to the House and Senate transportation committee who will need to approve the DOTD’s toll plan.

A few bills approved by lawmakers earlier this year will go into effect August 1st. One of them is legislation by Abita Springs Representative Larry Frieman which would allow a woman to recoup 50-percent of her pregnancy related medical expenses from the biological father. Frieman says the measure received strong support from women groups and fellow lawmakers…

The Louisiana Pardon Board has decided not to act on the 56 clemency applications they received from death row inmates. Dashing their hopes of Governor Edwards commuting their sentences to life without parole. The Board says based on its own rules, they can not take up the cases, because the applications were not made within one year of their last appeal. But Louisiana Capital appeals Project director Cecelia Kappel says they’ve waived this rule before…

Kappel hopes the governor will request that the Louisiana Pardon Board look at the cases.

At Saints training camp, where the heat index reached 111 degrees, two receivers Shaq Davis and Keith Kirkwood, could not finish this morning’s practice because they were over heated. The Louisiana Pardon Board has decided not to hear the clemency applications from 56 death row inmates hoping Governor Edwards would reduce their sentence to life in prison. Louisiana District Attorneys Association Director Loren Lampert says if the Pardon Board took up these petitions they would violate their own rules

An attorney for some of the death row prisoners says A-G Jeff Landry gave the Board a wrong reading of its policies in an attempt to steamroll a legitimate request to have these cases heard.
