The Tigers will need a good outing from sophomore left hander Gage Jump. In his last two starts, Jump has allowed one run on five hits, one walk and he has 20 strikeouts. First pitch tonight is at 7 PM.

The Ragin Cajuns and Louisiana Tech enter this weekend’s play in first place in their respective conferences. Both are on the road. The Bulldogs are at New Mexico State while the Cajuns visit Troy, who is three games back of U-L Lafayette in the Sun Belt.

A couple of former LSU Tigers have signed with new NFL teams. Odell Beckham Junior has reportedly signed a one-year deal with Miami, while Alexandria native DJ Chark is headed to the Los Angeles Chargers. Chark had 35 catches for 525 yard and five touchdowns last season.

LSU football has missed out on one of their defensive tackle targets in the transfer portal. Damonic Williams who had two standout seasons at TCU has committed to Oklahoma.

New ULM Warhawks football coach Byrant Vincent says that he saw progress during spring practice. Vincent is trying to lead the Warhawks to their first winning season since 2012 and it will take a lot of work…

The budget passed in the House last week, cut $24 million from early childhood education and reduced teacher pay stipends from $2,000 to $1,700. President of the Council for a Better Louisiana, Barry Erwin says it sends a bad message and it’s discouraging…

Erwin says lawmakers are aware of the ongoing teacher shortage and cutting their pay will most likely make things worse.

Cut 4 (11) “….gets cut.” 

Erwin says a solid early childhood education reduces one’s likelihood of a life of crime and after a session dedicated to crime reforms, but yet they reduced funding for such a vital program sends a mixed message.

Cut 5 (12)  “…direction.” 

Erwin says he’s hopeful the Senate will restore the cuts in these critical areas.

Louisiana Tech raised $1.96 million on Giving Day this year. The fundraiser was held on April 18th and LA Tech President Jim Henderson says they received donations from over 800 different donors, like students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, corporate partners, and community members.

He says donations ranged from five dollars to six figures.

Donations will go towards funding a variety of programs at the university.

Henderson says they want to continue to build programs and the theme of this year’s Giving Day was “Fulfilling our Potential.”

Henderson says they are extremely grateful for the outpouring of donations to the university.

The Rolling Stones long awaited appearance at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival is getting fantastic reviews. 40-thousand were on hand to see the British Rockers perform a two-hour, 18-song set list. President of New Orleans and Company Walt Leger says you would never guess frontman Mick Jagger is 80 years old

One of the highlights was New Orleans soul queen, Irma Thomas, singing “Time is on My Side” which was the first Top 10 American hit for the Rolling Stones in 1964. Thomas also released her version of that song the same year. Leger says it was a nice Jazz Fest touch…

After performing their hit song “Satisfaction” Jagger took the opportunity to take a jab at Governor Jeff Landry for his anti LGBTQ polices. Jagger said Landry is  inclusive and trying to bring the state back to the Stone age.

A murder suspect was arrested in Natchitoches Parish after he called authorities seeking assistance for a flat tire. Chief of operations for the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, Jimmy Travis, says 25-year-old Jerome Wilson of Hammond was wanted in the stabbing death of 31-year-old Carol Allen of New Orleans.

Allen was a sex worker and the two met through an escort service. Travis says she was killed in her car.

Travis says Wilson has a history of armed robbery against female…

Travis says Wilson’s motive was likely robbery and they believe Allen put up a fight.

The Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of multiple people involved in the beating and then shooting of a man identified as DaVeontre Modest. Authorities say Modest was first involved in a fight that left him unconscious, when he regained consciousness, he was shot at least two times. A juvenile and 20-year-old Kelvin Woods Junior have been charged with attempted second-degree murder.

Governor Landry’s legislative priorities are running into resistance in the Senate. A House approved school choice bill that the governor supports has yet to be heard by Senate Education. Landry also backs a major change in the public records law, but the bill awaits a debate on the Senate floor. The National 2024 Small Business Person of the Year is from Bayou State. Iam Tucker is the president and CEO of Integrated Logistical Support in New Orleans. As a second-generation small business owner of 15 years, Tucker says she’s extremely honored to receive the recognition.

The head baseball coach at Walker High School is accused of stealing 29-thousand dollars from the baseball program. Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard says Nicholas Scelfo submitted multiple reimbursement invoices totaling 29-thousand dollars and at the end of the 2024 season, school officials conducted an audit and the equipment he claimed to purchase did not exist…

The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s office says they’ve made an arrest in the fatal shooting that took place between motorists on I-20 on April 23rd….

That’s Sergeant Casey Jones. Back on April 23rd. The alleged gunman identified as a Amanvir Singh, was seen arguing with a driver of an 18-wheeler from California. The victim was seeing trying to flee on foot when he was allegedly shot by Singh.

A New Orleanian has been named the Small Business Person of the Year by the Small Business Administration. Iam Tucker owns Integrated Logistical Support, which provides construction management. Tucker says after an architect draws plans for a structure, her civil engineers make it work…

The Saints have declined to pick up the fifth-year option on defensive end Peyton Turner. That means Turner will be a free agent after this season. The former first-round pick has not been able to stay healthy. In three NFL seasons, Turner has only appeared in 15 games and has 29 tackles, three sacks, and eight quarterback hits.

One of the top defensive tackles in the transfer portal has committed to Oklahoma after visiting LSU and several other schools. Damonic Williams started 27 consecutive games for the TCU Horned Frogs. During that time, he recorded 60 tackles, nine and a half tackles for a loss, and four and a half sacks.

LSU men’s basketball has announced the signing of guard Vyctorius Miller of Los Angeles, California. The four-star prospect played this past season at Arizona Compass Prep. Coach Matt McMahon says they love Miller’s three-point shooting ability and his versatility to score in a variety of ways. He’s listed as the 42nd-best player in the ESPN high school rankings.

Louisiana leads the nation on a per capita basis for the number of children who died from being in a hot car too long. Since 1998, 36 kids in Louisiana lost their life from Pediatric Vehicular Heatstroke. Louisiana Highway Safety Commission spokesperson Greg Fisher says if you have small children, keep your vehicles locked…

Fisher says Pediatric Vehicular Homicide can happen quickly in a parked car. He says temperatures can rise 10 to 15 degrees in as little as 15 minutes

Fisher says another hot summer is approaching and routines are changing with kids getting out of school. He says there have been several cases of parents forgetting they had a small child in the backseat

Fisher says the best way to preventing these tragedies is for every parent and caregiver to understand that this can happen to anybody.

A Catahoula Correctional Center Inmate was fatally shot after allegedly faking an illness during transport and attacking two correctional officers. Lt. Jared Sandifer with the Louisiana State Police says it happened just outside of St. Francisville Wednesday morning.

Cut 6  (12) “…this situation.” 

The inmate has been identified as 46-year-old Raymond Huddleston of Baton Rouge. He was being transported to a court hearing.

Sandifer says Huddleston was able to disarm one of the correctional officers, and that officer was able to retrieve the firearm. He says Huddleston also tried to drive off in the van.

Cut 7 (10) “…towards him.”  

Despite officers rendering aid after Huddleston was shot, he died from his injuries.  Sandifer says state police are investigating and it appears before Huddleston faked a seizure, he was able to remove his restraints.

The officers were treated and released for minor injuries. A second inmate who was in the van was not involved and uninjured.

This is an active investigation.

The Louisiana Workforce Commission reports the number of seasonally adjusted nonfarm jobs increased by 500 from February to March and by 11-hundred since March 2023. Chief Economist for the L-W-C Emily Dipalma says the state has recorded 36 consecutive months of over-the-year-gains in nonfarm employment…

The Baton Rouge metro area led the state with 19-hundred jobs added since February. New Orleans added 15-hundred jobs. Dipalma says the rest of Louisiana’s metro areas added or lost a few hundred jobs….

The Landry administration has reversed course and will participate in a federal food program that provides 120-dollars per child for the summer to low income families. Appropriations Chairman Jack MacFarland was adamant on the House floor the state should provide the three-point-six million dollars to bring down 71-million dollars in federal funds….

The Saints have signed former Lions cornerback Will Harris. to a one year deal. Harris is a former third round pick in 2019 and spent five seasons in Detroit, playing outside corner, slot corner and some safety. In 81 career games, he has two interceptions, two forced fumbles and 14 passes defensed.

LSU men’s basketball has added Richmond graduate guard Dji (jai) Bailey to its roster. Bailey won the Atlantic 10’s Most Improved Player of the year award. During four years at Richmond, Bailey averaged 10 points, 4 rebounds, and nearly two steals per game. Bailey will join Cam Carter from Kansas State and Jordan Sears from UT Martin in the 2024 transfer class.

D1 baseball released its latest Field of 64 projections and they do not have the LSU Tigers making the NCAA Baseball Tournament. The Tigers can greatly improve their chances if they can win this weekend’s series against top ranked Texas A-and-M. D-1 baseball does have U-L and La Tech in a regional.

The 18th ranked Ragin Cajuns baseball team has a tough series this weekend at Troy. UL-Lafayette is currently on top of the Sun Belt standings at 17 and 4 while Troy is 14 and 7. Cajuns Coach Matt Deggs has a healthy respect for the Trojans.
