The early signing period begins December fourth, so it will be difficult for the Tigers to find another elite quarterback in this recruiting class.

On a 38-and-1 to vote the Louisiana Senate approved a bill that would raise the state’s sales tax from 4.45 percent to five percent for the next five years. While the state sales tax will increase, Louisiana residents will see their income taxes go down to a flat three percent and the standard deduction would grow from 45-hundred dollars to 12,500 dollars.

Today is the first day of Early voting for the December seventh election. Joel Watson with the Secretary of State’s office says turnout is expected to be low, which would be unfortunate since everyone will have something on their ballot…

Early voting will continue through November 30th, but polls will be closed on Sunday, Thanksgiving Day and next Friday.

A prison escapee’s run for freedom comes to an end. 20-year-old Jamarcus Cyprian escaped from the Tangipahoa Parish Jail back on May 16th; and on Wednesday, he was arrested at an apartment complex in Hammond. Cyprian was serving time for armed robbery. Sheriff Gerald Sticker says deputies were executing a search warrant in connection with a shooting at another apartment complex, in which he was identified as a person of interest.

It’s been a rough month for the LSU football program and it got worse yesterday as the nation’s top recruit for next season, quarterback Bryce Underwood, decommitted from the Tigers and will instead play for the Wolverines. Executive Editor of Tiger Rag Todd Horne says Underwood’s move came down to just one thing – money.

LSU’s NIL offer was a reported one-point-five million dollars a year.

On the field, the Tigers will look to snap a three-game losing streak when they host a Vanderbilt team that’s having its best season in years. The Commodores are 6-and-4 overall, 3-and-3 in the SEC.

The Ragin Cajuns host Troy tomorrow afternoon. Chandler Fields will start at quarterback for the injured Ben Woolridge. McNeese Coach Gary Goff is not saying who will start at quarterback when the Cowboys host Lamar tomorrow night.

ULM needs one more win to be bowl eligible. Coach Bryant Vincent’s team will try to get it done tomorrow against Arkansas State….

Southeastern Louisiana defeated Nicholls last night 19 to 16 on Riley Callaghan’s 40-yard field goal as time expired. Callagan on the Lions march down the field to set up for the winning score…

Early voting is underway in the December 7th election. Andrew Greenstein reports.

There’s a strong belief the tax reform special session will come to an end with lawmakers approving a plan that will lower individual income taxes, but increase the state sales tax from 4.45 percent to five percent for at least five years. Legislators would also repeal the corporate franchise tax.

Governor Jeff Landry says a three-billion dollar coastal restoration project, , would break parts of Louisiana’s culture. Landry appeared before the Senate Transportation Committee expressing concern the Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion would hurt commercial shrimping and oyster growing in southeast Louisiana. But Amanda Moore, senior director of the gulf program for the National Wildlife Federation, disagrees with Landry’s assertion…

The Alliance for Affordable Energy has concerns about Entergy’s proposed plans to build three natural gas power plants to support a proposed five billion dollar Artificial Intelligence Data Center in Richland Parish. Executive Director Logan Burke has this request of the Public Service Commission, who must approve it…

The seventh ranked LSU women’s basketball team improved to 6 and 0 last night with an 85 to 74 win over the Tulane Green Wave. Flau’Jae (flah-JHAY) Johnson had 25 points and 12 rebounds. Aneesah (uh-NEE-suh) Morrow had her nation-leading fifth double-double, 23 points and 16 rebounds. Coach Kim Mulkey says Morrow’s hard work is paying off…

Looking ahead to the rest of Saturday’s schedule…ULM will try to snap its four game losing streak as the Warhawks visit Arkansas State. Warhawks running back Ahmad Hardy is 25 yards away from eclipsing one-thousand yards on the season.

Louisiana Tech is at Arkansas, Northwestern State visits Houston Christian, McNeese hosts Lamar and Southeastern Louisiana travels to Nicholls tonight for the River Bell Classic.

LSU could be without both of its starting guards as Garrett Dellinger and Miles Frazier are listed as questionable.

The Pelicans have so many injuries, the line-up they put on the floor to start the game last night was unrecognizable. New Orleans lost to Cleveland 128 to 100 as former Ragin Cajun Elfrid Payton played in his first NBA game in more than 2 years and had 11 points and eight assists.

The River Bell Classic is tonight in Thibodaux as Nicholls hosts Southeastern Louisiana at 6 PM. The all-time series is tied at 17. Lions Coach Frank Scelfo says it’s a game fans of the respective schools look forward to each year…

Nicholls is 4-and-7, while S-L-U is 6-and-5 and need to win for a chance at making the F-C-S playoffs. The road team has won the last six matchups.

In women’s basketball…Flau’jae Johnson had 25 points and 12 rebounds as the Lady Tigers topped Tulane 85 to 74.

In men’s hoops…23rd ranked Texas A-and-M dribbled past Southern 71-54. And Towson took down Nicholls 70-64.

 

Saints star Taysom Hill earned NFC has been named NFC Offensive Player of the Week as he had three rushing touchdowns against the Browns.

The LSU football team is on its first three-game losing streak since 2021 and Coach Brian Kelly is receiving a lot of criticism from the fan base. The SEC Network’s Paul Finebaum was on Tiger Rag Radio last night and says Kelly is not in jeopardy of losing his job, but he better win next year…

It’s also been a tough year for Nicholls Colonels, who will conclude their season tomorrow by hosting Southeastern Louisiana in the River Bell Classic. Nicholls Coach Tim Rebowe’s team is on a three game losing streak…

A win for Southeastern Louisiana could land them an at-large berth in the F-C-S playoffs.

LSU Police are looking for whoever stole approximately 40 championship rings from former gymnastics coach D-D Breaux’s on campus office. Breaux retired as coach in 2020 and still works for the university in an ambassador role. Breaux says whoever stole the rings was apparently only after the rings and nothing else.

Cut 4 (14) “…took my rings.”

Breaux says they were probably taken during the day of the Alabama game as the athletic administration building is very busy on gameday.

The LSU men’s basketball team defeated Charleston Southern 77 to 68 last night to improve to 4-and-0. The Tigers will take on Pitt on Friday afternoon in a tournament in West Virginia.

The Ragin Cajuns men’s hoops team is headed to the Virgin Islands to play Liberty. U-L Lafayette lost last night to Rice 83 to 61.

The Pelicans visit the 15-and-1 Cavaliers. New Orleans is 4 and 11 and decimated by injuries. They signed former Cajun Elfrid Payton today to help their depleted backcourt.

Meta, Facebook’s parent company, is planning to build a five-billion dollar artificial data center near Holly Ridge in Richland Parish. This could result in as many as 500 well-paying jobs. For the project to become a reality, the Public Service Commission will have to approve three natural gas power plants, which would provide power to the facility. P-S-C Member Foster Campbell says he’ll do what he can to make sure the project becomes a reality, because northeast Louisiana needs the jobs.

The Louisiana Workforce Commission says the state added 77-hundred jobs in October. L-W-C Economist Emily DiPalma says construction, private education and health services and manufacturing showed the largest gains over the month and Dipalma expects those industries to keep adding jobs…

The Houma market added 500 jobs over the last month, 300 additional jobs for Lafayette and Shreveport, but Monroe lost 200 jobs.

Baton Rouge Congressman Garrett Graves has only about six weeks left in office. But he has an idea of what the Trump administration will do once President-elect Donald Trump takes office…

Graves says he’s talked with Trump’s transition team about joining the administration, but nothing was finalized.

LSU has missed its starting guard, Garrett Dellinger, has been out since hurting his ankle in the loss to Texas A-and-M. Coach Brian Kelly says Dellinger practiced a little bit yesterday and he’s optimistic he’ll play Saturday night against Vanderbilt.

Saints tight end Taysom Hill has been named the NFC’s offensive player of the week after scoring three touchdowns against the Cleveland Browns.

The Louisiana Tech football team is fresh off an upset win over Western Kentucky and this Saturday they are at Arkansas. The Razorbacks are led by quarterback Taylen Green. Bulldogs Head Coach Sonny Cumbie says containing the athletic signal caller will be top priority…

The tax reform special session continues today, but not much activity is expected in public view. That’s because the Louisiana Senate is gearing up to vote on several tax bills tomorrow and that includes proposal to lower the state’s income tax to a flat three percent. The income tax cut would mean an estimated one-point-three billion dollar loss in state revenues. Lapolitics dot com publisher Jeremy Alford says lawmakers need to make up that loss with increased sales taxes or else a tax reform plan will not pass…

The Louisiana Workforce Commission says the state added 77-hundred jobs in the month of October. L-W-C economist Emily Dipalma says 44-percent of those new jobs are in the construction sector…

President-elect Donald Trump has tapped Robert F Kennedy as the next Secretary for Health and Human Services. Kennedy is a known a vaccine skeptic. In the next Congress, Bill Cassidy will serve as chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee.  Cassidy, who is a  doctor, is expected to play a critical role in shaping healthcare reforms, addressing workforce challenges, and overseeing educational initiatives. His leadership could influence debates on contentious issues such as vaccine mandates.

President-elect Trump has taped WWE co-founder Linda McMahon has the next Secretary of Education. There was a push for Louisiana Superintendent of Education Cade Brumley to get this job.
