It was reported that all the riders on Float 32 in the Krewe of Thoth in New Orleans were removed after throwing beads in an aggressive manner at federal agents. But this afternoon the New Orleans Police Department corrected that report, saying the riders were removed for throwing items in an aggressive manner at a paradegoer holding an anti-ICE sign.

The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office has implemented a system that would alert other drivers of a police chase. For drivers to receive the alert, they would need to download an app called “Digital Siren.”  The system was developed by Tim Morgan, the CEO of Pursuit Alert and Digital Siren. He says he hopes his technology will be so widespread that it will eventually no longer be necessary to download an app to receive the alerts.

Iberville Parish authorities pushed for this technology after two teenagers that attended Brusly High School were killed by an Addis Police Officer who sped through an intersection during a chase.

Thanks to G-P-S technology, a 12-foot, one-thousand pound great white shark was recently found to be off of Louisiana’s coast, near the Chandeleur Islands east of New Orleans. The shark’s name is Ernst’s and it was originally tagged near Nova Scotia. Doctor Scott Powers with the University of South Alabama, says Ernst will not be in the Gulf of Mexico permanently…

LSU is at 14th ranked Ole Miss on Thursday night.

The LSU men’s basketball team fell to 2-10 in the SEC with a loss to Tennessee last Saturday. The Tigers will play the rest of the season without starting point guard DJ Thomas, who needs season ending surgery on his left foot. LSU is at Texas tomorrow night.

 

The top-ranked LSU baseball team finished off a three-game sweep of Milwaukee by beating the Panthers 21 to 7 yesterday. Big game from Jake Brown as he drove in a career-high six runs as he hit two home runs, including a grand slam. Coach Jay Johnson says his junior right fielder is poised for a big season after getting stronger in the offseason…

Louisiana’s longest serving U-S House member, Steve Scalise, is seeking a tenth term. The Republican from Jefferson Parish, who also serves as the U-S House majority leader, is heavily involved in national politics. But Scalise says he’s played a crucial role in securing funding for roads and bridges and flood control projects…

Only one challenger to Scalise is raising money according to the Federal Elections Commission and that’s Democrat Lauren Jewett from Metairie. Jewett has spent more than 17 years as a special education teacher. She says she will bring practical experience, compassion, and accountability to Congress…

The field is set for the Louisiana Republican Senate primary as incumbent Bill Cassidy has drawn two major challengers. Congresswoman Julia Letlow got into the race after President Trump endorsed her.

Cassidy’s other major challenger is State Treasurer John Fleming, who had previously served in the House of Representatives and in Trump’s cabinet during his first presidency.

Cut 9 (12)  “…my conservative beliefs.”

For his part, Senator Cassidy has said he believes his overall record speaks for itself and voters will see that. The primary is set for May 16th; if no one gets 50-percent-plus-one of the vote, the top two advance to a runoff on June 27th.

Steve Scalise is seeking a tenth term in Congress in District One, and his most formidable challenger is a special education teacher from Metairie. Jeff Palermo has the story…

Louisiana Tech scored 39 runs in a four-game sweep over H-C-U. ULM split a four game series against Central Arkansas. The Ragin Cajuns dropped their first two games of the season to Missouri State before winning nine to seven yesterday. Northwestern State starts its season by sweeping Texas-Arlington.

The LSU women’s basketball team returns to the practice court today after a tough 79 to 72 loss to South Carolina on Saturday night. LSU missed way too many shots down the stretch and missed nine free throws for the game. Coach Kim Mulkey says they didn’t do the little things well enough…

That’s now 18 straight losses to South Carolina. LSU will look to rebound on Thursday night when it visits 14th-ranked Ole Miss, which lost by 17 to Kentucky on Sunday.

The Lady Techsters won their 12th straight on Saturday and will be at Jacksonville State on Thursday. The McNeese women’s basketball team’s win streak is up to 15 after beating UTRGV on Saturday.

The McNeese men are at Northwestern State tonight, Nicholls visits H-C-U and the Cajuns are at Old Dominion.

Accidental overdose has been the leading cause of pregnancy-related deaths in Louisiana since 2018. Secretary of Health, Bruce Greenstein (Green steen) says, in an effort to keep women alive and families intact, the Department of Health has launched a program to bridge the gaps between emergency care, prenatal services, and ongoing substance use treatment.

LDH says substance use disorder is a chronic, treatable medical condition that has dangerous impacts on pregnant women and their infants. Greenstein says the data shows a vast majority of overdose deaths are preventable.

Project MOM (Maternal Overdose Mortality) is designed to normalize SUD screening, address stigma and bias, and implement evidence-based practices to create safer, more effective pathways to care. Greenstein says eleven hospitals around the state are participating.

The top ranked LSU Tigers trailed by three runs yesterday, but scored 13 unanswered runs on their way to beating Milwaukee 15 to 5 in eight innings in the season opener. LSU scored six runs in the seventh inning, highlighted by catcher Cade Arrambide’s three-run blast. Gavin Guidry, who missed the 2025 season with a back injury, was the winning pitcher as he threw the final two innings and struck out five of the seven hitters he faced. President Trump has posthumously pardoned LSU legend Billy Cannon for his involvement in a counterfeiting scheme that sent him to prison for two-and-half years. Afterwards, he returned to dentistry and in 1995 was hired as a dentist at the Louisiana State Penitentiary where he worked on inmates’ teeth and helped offenders reform. His daughter, Bunnie Cannon says his counterfeiting conviction does not define her father…

Pat Collins, who led Northeast Louisiana to the 1987 Division One-Double-A National championship has passed away at the age of 84. The Shreveport native was 57-35 in eight seasons at the helm at N-L-U. He also led the school to two Southland Conference titles and produced 17 All-Americans. Collins was inducted in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.

In a social media post, Landry said Cassidy has supported liberal Obama judges and led the efforts to block the addition of a new conservative federal judge in Louisiana’s Middle District. Cassidy responded by saying he’s never voted for a single Obama judicial nominee in Louisiana and there’s never been a middle court vacancy since he’s been in the Senate.

Cassidy also touted his record. Louisiana’s senior senator said he was instrumental in the passage of the infrastructure bill that provided billions of dollars towards roads, bridges, high speed internet expansion and water projects…

Like Letlow, Cassidy also touted his record on border security, including the fight against the drugs that are coming into the U.S. from Mexico.
