One of the two men who Shreveport Police say are responsible for a murder in a Walgreens parking lot is under arrest. Corporal Chris Bordelon says 38-year-old Kelvin Lewis was arrested late last week on an unrelated charge.

Bordelon says they believe it was Kelvin Lewis who fatally shot 67-year-old pharmaceutical delivery driver Billy Jamison last Wednesday.

Last week’s historic snowstorm caused state officials to close most of of Interstate 10 through Louisiana, causing significant challenges. Louisiana Motor Transportation Association Executive Director Renee Amar says many drivers were stuck waiting for conditions to improve.

Amar says trucks resorted to parking on interstate shoulders, creating safety hazards.

Louisiana Tech has partnered with Archem, a Shreveport-based leader in advanced aerospace fuel solutions, to advance aerospace innovation. Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are heading to New Orleans to try to win a record third consecutive Super Bowl. Mahomes accounted for three touchdowns in Kansas City’s thrilling 32 to 29 win over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship game…

Kansas City will play the Philadelphia Eagles who defeated Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders 55 to 23. It will be a rematch of Super Bowl 57, won by the Chiefs 38 to 35.

Saints offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak has found a new job as he’s leaving New Orleans after one season to be the O-C in Seattle. Former Saints head coach Dennis Allen will be the new defensive coordinator in Chicago and Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady says he’s not interested in the Saints head coaching job.

 

After losing to South Carolina on Friday, the LSU women’s basketball team defeated Texas A-and-M 64 to 51. The Lady Tigers struggled to score for three quarters, but finally got going in the fourth quarter to put the Aggies away. LSU women’s basketball is down to number seven in the new AP Top 25 poll.

The top two teams in the Southland Conference meet tonight in Texas as McNeese visits A-and-M Corpus Christi. McNeese is undefeated in conference play. Southern is undefeated in SWAC play and the Jaguars are at Mississippi Valley State.

LSU baseball has started full squad preseason workouts and Indiana State transfer Luis Hernandez hit 23 home runs last season and Coach Jay Johnson says he’s shown signs he can be a good defensive catcher too…

North and central Louisiana are getting an additional area code in the 318 area code territory.   Louisiana Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell says the new 457 area code will be for new numbers because 318 simply ran out of numbers.

New phones in the 3-1-8 are code territory will receive a  457 area code starting on September 25th.

A cat near New Orleans is confirmed to have been infected with bird flu. Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain says a domestic breed feral cat was picked up from a colony in Plaquemines Parish and was neutered.

Strain says this is an isolated incident.

Louisiana Tech has announced it’s partnering with Archem to advance aerospace innovation. La Tech Chief Innovation Officer Donna Johnson says as part of the partnership, Tech will receive a custom-designed jet engine test platform, giving students the opportunity to explore the future of advanced fuels for military and commercial applications…

As for the Eagles, they’re back in the Super Bowl for the second time in three years. Two years ago they lost to Kansas City in Super Bowl 57 and the Chiefs are trying to become the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls.

In other NFL News…Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady has taken his name out of consideration as head coach of the Saints. Former Saints head coach Dennis Allen will be the new defensive coordinator in Chicago and Klint Kubiak is leaving the Saints to be the offensive coordinator in Seattle.

College baseball teams began full squad workouts over the weekend. The Tigers have a lot of competition at the catcher position. Coach Jay Johnson is high on freshman Cade Arrambide (Air-um-beadie) from Tomball, Texas

The fifth-ranked LSU women’s basketball team rebounded from its loss to second-ranked South Carolina on Friday by beating Texas A-and-M 64 to 51. The Lady Tigers shot just 32 percent from the field but grabbed 30 offensive rebounds. Flau’Jae Johnson had 22 points.

Nice win for Louisiana Tech men’s basketball on Saturday night as the Bulldogs beat Middle Tennessee 75 to 69. Tech is now 4-and-4 in Conference USA action.

McNeese is at Corpus Christi tonight in a matchup of the two best teams in the Southland.

The LSU women’s basketball team dropped its first game of the season last night, falling to second ranked South Carolina 66 to 56. The Lady Tigers trailed by three points at halftime, but the Gamecocks outscored LSU 18 to 11 in the third quarter to open up a double-digit lead. LSU Coach Kim Mulkey says turnovers did them in…

South Carolina also had 11 blocked shots and held LSU to 30-percent shooting. Coach Kim Mulkey’s team will host Texas A-and-M on Sunday.

The 2nd ranked LSU gymnastics team also had a tough day yesterday losing to 14th ranked Arkansas. The Tigers did not score on floor as well as they usually do. Coach Jay Clark said the team’s preparation was not up to their normal standard.

The Saints are the only team without a head coach after the Cowboys announced the hiring of offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer as the 10th coach in franchise history. New Orleans is still in the interview process and will reportedly speak with Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka today, after speaking with Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver yesterday. The NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports the team also plans to talk with Mike McCarthy and possibly Joe Brady and Kellen Moore.

According to Bet Online-dot-A-G, most of America is rooting for the Buffalo Bills to win the Super Bowl. Still, here in Louisiana, it’s Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders…

Louisiana is one of 10 states where most of the people are rooting for the Commanders. Four states are rooting for the Chiefs, and three states are pulling for the Eagles.

The Commanders and the Eagles will face each other for the third time this season in Sunday’s NFC Championship game in Philadelphia. In the regular season, each team won on its home field. Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels says he expects the Eagles defense to throw a few new looks at him….

Kick off between Philadelphia and Washington is at 2 PM. The AFC Championship game will follow at 5:30. The winners of the title games will face off in Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans on February 9th.

The Raiders have hired the 73-year-old Pete Carroll as their new head football coach. That leaves Dallas and New Orleans as the only two franchises with head coaching vacancies. This means if the Saints want former Cowboys Coach Mike McCarthy they will not have any competition.

The LSU baseball team began full squad work outs today. Baseball America has ranked the Tigers newcomer class of transfers and freshmen signees as the best in the nation in 2025. Freshman right hander William Schmidt is the crown jewel of the freshmen class. The Baton Rouge native took his name out of MLB draft consideration to attend LSU, even though he was set to be a first round pick. Coach Jay Johnson says Schmidt could be a weekend starter this year….

The LSU men’s basketball team will face a really good basketball team tomorrow night as they visit fourth ranked Alabama. The Crimson Tide are 16-and-3 on the season.

La Tech goes after its seventh straight home win when it takes on Middle Tennessee at 5:30 tomorrow.

At 4 PM today, the fifth ranked LSU women’s basketball team will take on second ranked South Carolina. The Lady Tigers are 20-and-0 but Reed Darcy who covers LSU for the Advocate says South Carolina appears to be the more talented team and it will take an off day for them to lose on their home floor…

That would be Daniel Batcho, who was eight of 14 from the line and finished with a team high 18 points.

In Lafayette, Texas State shot 39 free throws and made 33 of them and defeated the Cajuns 89 to 74. The Bobcats were led by Tylan Pope from Franklinton, who was 13 of 14 form the line and finished with game high 25 points.

The Pelicans are at Memphis tonight and Zion Williamson will not play. He had a non-COVID illness this week and the team says he needs to recondition from the illness. Brandon Ingram is also out. He’s missed 20 straight games because of a left ankle sprain.

Governor Jeff Landry is back in our nation’s capital to attend Washington Mardi Gras events. Landry was also in D-C last weekend for pre-inauguration festivities and planned to stay in Washington for the entire week, but the winter storm forced him to return to Louisiana for a few days.

State Police say a Hammond woman died a day after the snowstorm when she crashed head-on into a pickup truck driven by a Mississippi man who was allegedly impaired. Trooper Marc Gremillion says the two-vehicle crash occurred on Louisiana Highway 22 in Ponchatoula and 65-year-old Peggy Williams did not survive…

The 5th U-S Circuit Court of Appeals heard the state’s appeal yesterday of a federal judge’s ruling that the state’s new law requiring the Ten Commandments be displayed in every public-school classroom is unconstitutional. The state maintains the Ten Commandments are the foundation of our laws. Civil liberty groups say it’s a blatant attempt at pushing Christianity in public schools, citing the debate by Republican lawmakers in the session in which House Bill 71 passed. Loyola University Law Professor Dane Ciolino says that context will come into play if the Supreme Court hears this case…

Entergy Louisiana experienced a peak outage of 65-hundred customers and Entergy New Orleans had at one point a high of 24-hundred customers without power. Jason Willis, vice president of reliability at Entergy says they received some help in their planning….

The Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office is set to appear in season two of the television series “Police 24/7” on the CW. While the specific episodes featuring BSO haven’t been confirmed, Lieutenant Neil Johnston says the public will get the opportunity to see what deputies deal with every day.

Shreveport Police have identified a possible suspect in Wednesday’s fatal shooting of a pharmaceutical rep in the parking lot of a Walgreen’s. They are asking for the public’s help in locating Larry Lewis, who is considered armed and dangerous. The victim has been identified as 67-year-old Billy Jamison, a father of four and the sole caretaker of his own father in his 90s.

Bill Cassidy’s re-election campaign has announced Louisiana’s Senior U-S Senator raised another one-million dollars in the fourth quarter of 2024 and now has more than six-point-five million dollars on hand. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says the goal for Cassidy is ten-million dollars…
