Former Saints Star Darren Sharper has reached a plea deal with authorities in Louisiana and three other states in which he’s accussed of drugging and raping women. There’s a report he’ll receive a 20-year prison sentence in Louisiana, but only serve nine years. Legal analyst Doug Sunseri says Sharper has agreed to what is known as a global plea deal, which means he essentially agreed to one punishment for all of the charges…

Sharper’s legal troubles are not over, he still faces federal drug charges in New Orleans and a hearing on those charges is scheduled for April 6th.

Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis spoke at today’s NFL owners meetings in Arizona and said reports that New Orleans has quarterback Drew Brees on the trade block are completely untrue. Loomis added he’s not sure how those rumors got started. Brees is 36-years-old and has two years left on a five-year contract.

The LSU Tigers are ranked number one in five of the six major college baseball polls. Collegiate Baseball is the only one where they are not ranked number. They have Texas A-and-M ranked ahead of the Tigers.

In college basketball…Louisiana Tech is at Texas A-and-M for a second round N-I-T match-up that can be seen on ESPN at six P-M. The Aggies are one of the better defensive teams out of the SEC. Bulldogs Coach Michael White says tonight’s game could be low scoring…

D-1 Baseball, Perfect Game and Baseball America all have the Tigers ranked number one after taking two of three from Arkansas this past weekend. But LSU is not in first place in the SEC West. That honor goes to Texas A-and-M, who has a better league record than the Tigers at 5-and-1. Vanderbilt and Missouri are also five and one in league play.

The Ragin Cajuns are a half game back of Georgia Southern and Texas State for first place in the Sun Belt. U-L Lafayette took two of three from Georgia State over the weekend and the Cajuns are back on the road tomorrow to visit McNeese State.

In the Southland…Southeastern Louisiana is in first place in the league with a seven and two record, a half game ahead of Northwestern State and a full game ahead of McNeese. The Lions swept Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi and will host ULM tomorrow night. The Warhawks thumped Appalachian State ten to two yesterday.

Louisiana Tech will take on Texas A-and-M tonight in the second round of the N-I-T. Tech enters the game with a 26-8 record, while the Aggies are 21-11 and beat Montana in the opening round of the NIT. Bulldogs Coach Michael White says A&M presents a tough challenge for his guys…

Sentencing is scheduled today for a Baton Rouge man who allegedly shot his girlfriend up with a fatal injection of heroin in 2013. 31-year-old Brandon Eirick pleaded guilty to negligent homicide and heroin distribution in the death of 31-year old Leah Hutchinson. Legal analyst Tim Meche says cases like this are not unique…

Eirick was originally charged with second degree murder in this case, but pleaded to the lesser charge of negligent homicide in October. Meche says this case is clearly a homicide case and not a murder…

The representative also feels that lawmakers should take a closer look at tax incentives offered by the state to shrink the budget gap. The Louisiana National Guard says they’ve gotten 10 bids from companies with ideas on ways to get rid of the 15 million pounds M6 propellant at Camp Minden. The EPA agreed to delay an open tray burn of the explosives and said they would entertain alternative methods. Col Pete Schneider says these 10 companies have all submit proposals on what should be done…:

The LSU men’s basketball team’s season ended in heartbreaking fashion last night as the Bayou Bengals blew a 16-point lead and lost 66-65 to North Carolina State. LSU missed its last 12 shots from the field and six free throws in the final four minutes to allow the Wolfpack to steal the victory. Head Coach Johnny Jones on the missed free throws

It’s been a good day in the NCAA Tournament for Conference USA and the Sun Belt. UAB, who beat Louisiana Tech in the CUSA tourney, upset third-seeded Iowa State 60-59. And Georgia State, who won the Sun Belt Tourney, knocked off another three-seed, Baylor 57 to 56.

Tonight in Natchitoches, Northwestern State hosts U-T Martin in the College Insider-dot-com Tournament. Tip-off is at 6:30.

The Saints have reportedly restructured cornerback Keenan Lewis’ contract, which will give the veteran more guaranteed money, which is what he wanted. The restructuring also gives the team more salary cap relief.

Former Saints first round pick, cornerback Patrick Robinson, has signed a free-agent deal with San Diego. Robinson received a lot of blame from Saints fans over the defense’s troubles last season.

The number one LSU baseball team begins a three-game series tonight in Arkansas. Jared Poche, who is 5-and-0 will get the start on the mound for the Tigers. Jared Foster is expected to start at second base, after making a couple of errors against Southern on Tuesday and Conner Hale is expected to play third base after missing Tuesday’s game with a shoulder injury.

Pelicans star Anthony Davis rolled his ankle during shoot around this morning and he’s questionable for tonight’s game against Phoenix. New Orleans is a half-game back of O-K-C for eighth place in the Western Conference.

The number one ranked LSU baseball team begins a three game series against Arkansas tonight. It’s the Tigers first true road game of the season. The Razorbacks were swept last weekend by Vanderbilt and they are 10-and-8 overall.

The LHSAA state wrestling tournament will take place in Bossier City the next two years. The two day event is usually held at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner.

The LSU men’s basketball team got an opportunity to practice in Pittsburgh today as they ready for tomorrow night’s match-up with North Carolina State in the NCAA Tournament. The Wolfpack have three starters who average in double figures, including Ralston Turner, who spent his freshman and sophomore seasons with the LSU Tigers.

Tonight in Monroe, U-L-M will host Eastern Michigan in the first round of the College Basketball Invitational. This is the Warhawks 10th ever postseason appearance and first since the 1995-96 season. ULM has only won one postseason game and that was in 1991 as they defeated Florida A-and-M in a play-in-game into the NCAA Tournament.

Louisiana Tech defeated Central Michigan in the N-I-T last night. The Bulldogs will next play Texas A-and-M in College Station. The game will take place on Monday, but an exact time has not been announced. U-L Lafayette defeated Incarnate Word in the C-I-T last night and no word on who the Cajuns will play next.

Rose’s commitment to play in the Zurich Classic, comes about a week after Billy Horschel’s announcement that he would play in New Orleans next month. Horschel won the Zurich Classic in 2013 and he’s ranked 17th in the world. A Natchitoches man is under arrest for simple battery and hate crimes after an incident at a local business. 35-year-old Roderick Rachal was booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center. Police Captain Chris Payne says responding officers spoke to a female victim that said a man she did not know grabbed her buttocks…

A former caretaker of LSU’s mascot Mike wrote a letter to a Baton Rouge newspaper expressing concern over the live Tiger’s increasing lack of appearing in the stadium at home football games. Mike the VI did not go to a single contest last season. Paul Marks Jr. says he was responsible for Mike III from 1963-1965 and they never had a problem getting him to games.
He says the difference is that they altered his feeding patterns…:

It wasn’t a pretty performance but the Pelicans picked up a win last night as they outlasted the Milwaukee Bucks 85-84. Anthony Davis had 20 points, but shot six of 18 from the field. Quincy Pondexter had 18 as he hit 5 three-pointers. The victory moves New Orleans back into a tie with Oklahoma City for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

The LSU men’s basketball team is in Pittsburgh, getting ready for tomorrow night’s NCAA Tournament against North Carolina State. Tigers Coach Johnny Jones is very familiar with Wolfpack head coach Mark Gottfried. Jones served under Gottfried for one season, when Gottfried was the head coach at Alabama.

The number one ranked LSU baseball team was nearly upset last night as they needed extra innings to beat cross-town rival Southern University four to two. LSU scored a run in the eighth to tie the game at one and then scored again in the ninth to tie the game at two. LSU then pushed across two runs in the tenth to win. Alex Bregman drove in two runs and Collin Strall picked up the win in relief and Jessie Stallings earned his ninth save.

In other action…Nicholls State defeated Lamar one to nothing. Ryan Deemes pitches seven scoreless innings for hits third win of the season. Tulane thumped Southeastern Louisiana 15 to 2, and U-L-M blanked Grambling seven to nothing. Keelin Rasch and Danny Springer hit home runs for the Warhawks.
