The National Hurricane Center says catastrophic and life-threatening flooding is possible in Texas as some areas could get up to 35 inches of rain through Wednesday. Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards says what Harvey will do after this weekend is unknown….

A viral Facebook post helped Shreveport Police put an alleged booze thief behind bars. A video with more than 20 million views shows a woman stuffing bottles of liquor into her purse, her pants, and even her bra at a local store. Cpl. Angie Willhite says officers responded to the incident at the Thrifty Liquor Store on August 18.

Willhite says Crime Stoppers posted the store’s surveillance on YouTube, and it went viral almost instantly. She says local law enforcement immediately recognized 37-year-old Sekonie Jones.

Willhite says Jones walked out of the store with 11 bottles of alcohol on her person. Jones surrendered herself on one charge of misdemeanor theft. Willhite says after the video was posted, Crime Stoppers tips started flooding into the station.

Harvey is closing in on the Texas coast and is growing in strength as it nears Corpus Christi. State Climatologist Barry Keim says the National Hurricane Center has Harvey meandering inland in Texas over the weekend but then shifting towards Louisiana…

Keim says the five to 15 inches of rain expected to fall in Louisiana could create problems as it falls on already saturated soil. He says the storm is expected to stall and remain at least tropical storm strength into Wednesday.

Keim says Harvey will have immediate impacts on Louisiana with already storm surge and high surf. He says this will be the first category three hurricane to make landfall in the U.S. since Hurricane Wilma in October 2005.

Hurricane Harvey could push prices up at the pump. Don Redman with AAA says refineries are shutting down as they prepare for the storm, which could drive up gasoline prices.

The current statewide average for a gallon of gasoline is $2.14. Redman says gulf coast refineries could be down for a week or more, which will hurt supply. He says gas prices are always subject to change during hurricane season, and this is the kind of storm everyone dreads approaching the coast.

Redman says prices haven’t jumped up yet, but they could by next week. He says we’ve seen record high demand for gas this summer. Ample supply from refineries has kept gas prices relatively low. He says this is why AAA encourages drivers to top off their tanks anytime a named storm is in the Gulf.

The rice crop in south Louisiana is in jeopardy as Hurricane Harvey is expected to drop lots of rain on the Bayou State. LSU AgCenter Rice Specialist Dr. Dustin Harrell says 90 to 95-percent of this year’s rice has been harvested but the storm could complicate the remaining crop in the fields.

Harrell says farmers are rushing to harvest what’s left before Harvey pounds the state with rain. He says this year’s crop was already subpar and extreme flooding could cause additional problems with the new crop…

Heavy rain from Harvey has moved into southwest Loisiana. Cameron and Vermilion Parish are under a tornado watch until 2 AM on Saturday. A voluntary evacuation has been ordered for low lying areas below Highway 14 in Vermilion Parish. A mandatory evacuation is in effect for southern Cameron Parish.

Forecasters are predicting southwest Louisiana will see 15 to 20 inches of rain over the next several days from Hurricane Harvey, which is expected to stall along the Louisiana coast. That’s not good news for the state’s rice crop. LSU will get to see BYU in action tomorrow as the Cougars open their season with a game against Portland State on ESPN at 2 PM. The Cougars get a tune-up before they play the Tigers in Houston next week, because the NCAA allows schools to play 13 games, if you play a non-conference contest at Hawaii. BYU was 9-4 last season and their four losses were by a combined eight points.

LSU will hold its final scrimmage of preseason camp tomorrow. The coaching staff and players have been impressed with the freshman. Defensive Coordinator Dave Aranda on K’Lavon Chaisson’s pass rushing abilities….

Hurricane Harvey is intensifying as it moves towards the Texas coast for landfall on Friday night or early Saturday morning. Eric Blake, with the National Hurricane Center, says Louisiana faces the potential for 6 to 15 inches of rain, the heaviest in southwest Louisiana. He says as of right now Texas will get the worst of it.

Baton Rouge Police have charged a 20-year-old Ponchatoula man with negligent homicide for fatally shooting a 19-year-old Hammond girl as they were driving down Florida Boulevard on Tuesday. Authorities say James Seymore was playing with a hand gun, when it off, striking Briana Hornsby, who died at a local hospital.

The Saints first round picks left practice early today. Cornerback Marshon Lattimore left during individual drills, while left tackle Ryan Ramczyk exited early in team drills with the Houston Texans. Coach Sean Payton said after practice that he thought they would bounce back and be ready to play Saturday versus the Texans.

In preseason action tonight…Carolina is at Jacksonville. Jaguars first-round pick Leonard Fournette will not play because of a foot injury, but Cam Newton will make his first appearance of the preseason for the Panthers.

LSU basketball will begin conference play in 2018 by hosting Kentucky. The tigers will travel to Texas A&M and Arkansas and then come back to host Alabama on January 13th.

Louisiana Tech’s schedule was also finalized today. The Bulldogs will play 18 games against Conference USA opponents and it will start December 28th at Western Kentucky. The big nonconference games for the Dunkin Dogs are against Alabama and Texas and they’ll also host UL Lafayette at the Thomas Assembly Center.

Could Donnie Alexander become the next LSU linebacker that goes from unknown player to a high draft pick. Alexander has added about 15 pounds so he can play inside linebacker in the SEC. Defensive coordinator Dave Aranda says he’s been impressed with Alexander during training camp…

A third relative has been arrested in Webster Parish in the bizarre case of a seven-year-old who shot his aunt twice. The child’s grandmother, 64-year-old Cheryl Lee of Shreveport was booked on obstruction of justice as she allegedly tried to cover up the shooting. The boy’s mother and grandfater are also facing charges.

Foster Farms announces a $30 million dollar expansion and upgrade to its poultry processing plant in Farmerville. Louisiana Economic Development expects this will create 50 new jobs. Farmerville Mayor Stein Baughman says this strengthens the town’s relationship with the company..:
