A week after multiple Louisiana Sheriff’s Offices filed suit against several opioid manufacturers, the state Department of Health has filed its own lawsuit claiming these drug companies have helped fuel the Bayou State’s severe opioid epidemic. Legal Analyst Tim Meche says this is a very trendy lawsuit now…

Meche says it could be difficult for the suits to stick because the opioids are regulated and approved by the FDA and prescribed by doctors. He says this litigation is similar to lawsuits against gun manufacturers.

LDH is seeking damages for the amounts it has already paid for excessive opioid prescriptions and treatment costs as a result of those prescriptions. Meche says it seems like this is more about trial lawyers trying to make money rather than fight the epidemic.

A UNO poll finds 57-percent of registered Louisiana voters surveyed believe protesting NFL players should be fined or fired, but there is a big difference of opinion among races. Researcher Tony Licciardi says most of the black responders oppose penalizing the protesting players….

State Police say a 42-year-old motorcyclist was killed after traveling over 100 miles per hour on LA 22 in Tangipahoa Parish. Senior Trooper Dustin Dwight says yesterday afternoon, police received 911 calls reporting a motorcyclist driving recklessly. He says an officer then spotted the vehicle…

Dwight says after clocking 42-year-old Andrew Alessi of Baton Rouge at 123 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone, authorities received a report of a crash farther west down LA 22.

Dwight says Alessi succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital. He says this death was totally preventable.

The two people wanted for the stabbing death of an 82-year-old Shreveport woman are in custody in San Angelo, Texas. Authorities say Roy Narcisse and Kiana Williams of Ville Platte were in possession of the victim’s vehicle at the time of their arrest.

Earlier in the day, head coach Ed Orgeron said they were questionable for Saturday night’s game against Troy because of injuries. House Majority Whip Steve Scalise’s office says the Congressman from Metairie returns to the United States Capitol today. Scalise was shot in the hip on June 14th and underwent several surgeries and more than three months of rehabilition. Scalise will be featured on CBS’ 60 Minutes on Sunday night.

Authorities are trying to learn more about the suspect in the shooting death of a 10-year-old Lake Charles boy. 50-year-old Felton Thompson was paroled from Angola last year after serving 24-years of a 99-year sentence for armed robbery. Calcasieu Parish District Attorney John DeRosier says this could happen again, because of new legislation designed to reduce the state’s incarceration rate…

A former Angola inmate has been charged in the murder of a 10-year-old and severely wounding his 17-year-old brother in Lake Charles. Michael Farrar has the story…

The man and woman wanted in the fatal stabbing of an 82-year-old Shreveport woman are in police custody. Roy Narcisse and Kiana Williams of Ville Platte were captured in San Angelo, Texas and are expected to be booked on second-degree murder charges when they return to Shreveport.

Cleco announces a new two year, 130-million dollar project to improve customer service and it will also help stimulate the economy. Spokesperson Jennifer Cahill says they are calling it the START program and it will create 221 jobs, as they will replace Cleco’s core technology of multiple systems with one primary system.
