The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office will be featured on A&E’s “Live PD” in the coming weeks. Spokesperson Capt. Daniel Seuzeneau says given the tensions rising between law enforcement and the public, they hope this show will give people a better idea of what deputies deal with every day.

Seuzeneau says the first show will air two to three weeks from now. He says there was some concern from the public about showing the world what happens in St. Tammany Parish, but the response was overwhelmingly positive. He says the camera crews are professionals, and so are the officers.

Seuzeneau says “Live PD” is similar to the long-running TV show Cops, except this is live with an 8 minute delay. He says people are used to seeing plenty of bad guys on the reality TV shows. He says while there will certainly be some of that, he expects viewers to see plenty of the good guys too.

Saturday is World Cancer Day. Director of the Louisiana Cancer and Prevention Programs with LSU Health New Orleans, Donna Williams, says the goal of World Cancer Day is to raise awareness about cancer prevention methods. She says they want to share a very important message.

Williams says we are already winning the fight against cancer. She says before the 1930’s cervical cancer was the number one killer of women in the United States. But she says strides in the medical field have greatly reduced the risk for cervical cancer.

Williams says more than half of cancers can be detected early and cured. She says there’s plenty of ways people can reduce their risk for various cancers.

NRG Stadium in Houston is hosting its second ever Super Bowl this weekend, so when next will it be New Orleans’ turn to get the big game? Jay Cicero with the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation says the Super Bowl is already awarded through 2021. He says, if New Orleans is selected to bid to host an 11th time, they would next be eligible in 2023:

Cicero says they will find out if New Orleans is invited to bid on 2023 this upcoming May. 2013 was the last time the Big Easy hosted the Big game. He says they’ve made bids since that time to host the Super Bowl again, but lost to cities who have brand new amenities…:

Through 2021, Minneapolis, Atlanta, Miami and Los Angeles will host the Super Bowl and they all have new or upgraded facilities. Cicero says other cities do a nice job, but nobody has the assets that New Orleans does, combined with the experience…:

There’s a shortage of paramedics around the country, and it’s being felt in the Bayou State too. Justin Cox with Acadian Ambulance says they are short 30 paramedics, which puts a serious strain on the medics who have to fill that need. Cox says turnover for paramedics is high, because it’s a demanding job

Cox says it takes roughly two years to go from zero to hero and complete a rigorous training program. Starting paramedics make about 42-thousand dollars a year. He says they are offering a 15-thousand dollar signing bonus for new hires in an effort to lure people to their industry…

Cox says they’re doing everything they can to recruit more paramedics. He says they’re offering incentives for medics to come to Louisiana from neighboring states. He says they also offer tuition payment for people who complete the program and come to work.

Two defense attorneys have told the Associated Press that the fatal shooting of former NFL running back Joe McKnight was in self-defense. Matthew Goetz and Gerard Archer are representing 55-year-old Ronald Gasser of Terrytown. Gasser has been indicted on a charge of second-degree murder. But in an email to the A-P, Gasser’s lawyers say McKnight attempted to enter Gasser’s vehicle and he shot McKnight because he feared for his safety.

There is a shortage of paramedics around the country and that problem persists in Louisiana too. Acadian Ambulance says they could use 30 more paramedics and they are offering a 15-thousand dollar signing bonus for new hires in an effort lure more people to their industry…

A-and-E’s “Live P-D” is coming to St. Tammany Parish. The Friday night television show is like “Cops” but it shows police activity live at departments around the country on a Friday night, unfettered and unfiltered. St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s office spokesperson, Captain Daniel Seuzeneau says the show will likely show their deputies catching crooks, but you’ll see plenty of good guys too…

Three players with ties to Louisiana will find out tomorrow whether they’ll be inducted into the Pro Fooball Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2017. Many believe former Saints kicker Morten Andersen has a good shot of getting in this year. Former LSU standouts Kevin Mawae and Alan Faneca are also finalists. Both had long careers as NFL offensive linemen. NFL analyst Mike Detillier believes Faneca has a better chance to get into the Hall, than Mawae….

Faneca is a six-time firs-team All-Pro selection and helped Pittsburgh win a Super Bowl in 2006.

Saints head coach Sean Payton appeared on Good Morning Football on the NFL Network and said New Orleans has to improve on defense. Payton added that they have to get a couple of pressure players in the draft and he said the draft is strong at safety, cornerback and running back.

LSU Head Coach Ed Orgeron has a couple of openings on his staff. That’s because receivers coach and recruiting coordinator Dameyune Craig has been relieved of his duties and running backs coach Jabbar Juluke has been reassigned within the athletic department.

In college basketball last night…Jacobi Boykins returned to the floor after a one-game suspension and hit five three-pointers to end Louisiana Tech’s two-game losing streak with a 76-67 win over Western Kentucky. Boykins had 25 points, 19 in the first half. He was suspended one-game for his role in the bench-clearing fight against UAB.

Also last night, McNeese State snapped a three-game losing streak with an 87-79 victory over Incarnate Word and Northwestern State made 13 three-pointers last night but the Demons still lost to Central Arkansas 107-97.

Sam Houston State has been picked to win the Southland Conference in baseball by the league’s coaches. Southeastern Louisiana is picked to finish second, while McNeese State is expected to finish in fourth place.

Today, Governor John Bel Edwards is expected to issue the call for a rebalancing the budget special session that would begin February 13th. Jeremy Alford of LaPolitics.com says the governor will push the use of 119 million dollars from the Rainy Day Fund to address the $304 million dollar budget gap…:

He says other items in the call will allow legislators to make cuts throughout the budget.

Governor Edwards has announced changes within his administration. Longtime legislator and current chief of staff Ben Nevers will retire at the end of the month and Mark Cooper will take his place. Cooper was former Governor Bobby Jindal’s homeland security secretary.

And former U.S. Senator David Vitter has a new job. He’s been hired by Washington D-C lobbying firm Mercury Public affairs.

When watching football on Sunday look for the Louisiana Clydesdales that will be shown for about a second in a Budweiser Super Bowl Commerical. Clay Harper of Pearl River owns those horses and they shot the commercial over a several day period in New Orleans last month…

According to Value Penguin, the St. Mary Parish town of Patterson is the the safest place to live and work in Louisiana. Associate Editor Andrew Pentis says it’s the second year in a row Patterson has received their top ranking…

The man accused of killing former-NFL player Joe McKnight has been indicted for second-degree murder. 54-year-old Ronald Gasser was charged with manslaughter on December 5, four days after the apparent road rage incident. Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand says the upgraded charge comes after the grand jury looked at all of the evidence.

The next time a strong tropical storm or hurricane threatens the coastal United States, the National Hurricane Center will issue storm surge watches and warnings.

Baton Rouge Mayor Sharon Weston Broome laid out new policies today for the Police Department that require officers to try to de-escalate situations before using physical or deadly force. The changes stem from the officer involved shooting of Alton Sterling. Broome says many of these methods are taught to police officers at the academy…:

One day after national signing day, LSU Head Football Coach Ed Orgeron has made changes to his coaching staff. Wide receiver’s coach Dameyune Craig has been fired, while running backs coach Jabbar Juluke has been re-assigned to a position within the athletic department. Both coaches have more than a year left on their contracts and LSU will owe them hundreds of thousands of dollars.

According to the football recruiting experts, LSU’s 2017 class is the seventh best in the nation. The Tigers signed 23 players, most of the new additions are on the defensive side of the football. Coach Ed Orgeron says the Tigers did well along I-10 by getting Plaquemine defensive back Todd Harris and a defensive lineman from Lafayette

But LSU also missed out on a lot of big name in-state talent like Amite wide receiver Devonta Smith, Neville defensive tackle Phildarian Mathis and Southern Lab linebacker Christoper Allen. All three signed with Alabama.

In the Southland…Northwestern State concludes a four-game road trip by visiting Central Arkansas. The Demons are 2-1 during this trip. McNeese is also on the road. The Cowboys are at Incarnate Word and McNeese is looking to snap a three-game losing streak.

And each school in the SEC will receive 40-million dollars as a result of revenues generated by the league during the 2015-16 athletic year.

The man accused of fatally shooting former NFL player Joe McKnight in an apparent road rage incident last December in Terrytown has been indicted for second-degree murder by a grand jury. When Ronald Gasser was arrested in December by Jefferson Parish deputies he was booked on a manslaughter charge. If convicted, Gasser would receive a life sentence. A manslaughter conviction carries a maximum sentence of 40 years.

The National Hurricane Center will issue storm surge watches and warnings during the 2017 hurricane season, which will be a first. Storm Surge Specialist Jamie Rhome says the amount of water that a named storm can push into a coastal area can be as destructive and deadly as damaging winds..:

The Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s office says Ronald Gasser has been indicted on one-count of second-degree murder in the apparent road rage shooting death of former NFL player Joe McKnight. Gasser was booked in early December on a charge of manslaughter. But Jefferson Parish District Attorney Paul Connick says since the arrest, additional evidence has been developed and it was presented to a grand jury. Gasser cooperated with authorities after the shooting.

The National Hurricane Center says they’ll issue storm surge watches and warnings for the first time ever the next time a tropical storm or hurricane approaches the U.S. coastline. Storm surge specialist Jamie Rhome…

If no one transfers, LSU will have seven quarterbacks on their roster for the start of fall camp.

Two of the better quarterbacks in the state have signed at UL Lafayette and Louisiana Tech. The Cajuns inked Levi Lewis from Scotlandville. But there’s a possibility Lewis could be moved to wide receiver. Elijah Walker of Amite is now a Bulldog. Walker helped the Warriors reach the Class 3A title game.

According to Rivals-dot-com’s rankings, ULM had the best the recruiting class in the Sun Belt. The Warhawks signed 22 players, including four three-star prospects. Coach Matt Viator is pleased with the players he signed…

In basketball…LSU lost its eighth straight as they fell to South Carolina 88-63. UNO fell out of first place in the Southland as the Privateers lost in overtime to Abilene Christian 70-69. Southeastern Louisiana ended a two-game losing streak with an easy 72-44 victory over Nicholls.

And in the NBA, the Pelicans lost their third striaght as Detroit downed New Orleans 118-98.
