No LSU Tigers were selected in the first round of the NFL draft, but three of them went in the second round, including running back Derius Guice, who didn’t hear his name called until late in the second round. The Washington Redskins took Guice with the 59^th overall pick. One report says Guice fell in the draft because of immaturity and showing up late to visits with teams.

Cornerback Donte Jackson was the first Tiger taken as he went to the Carolina Panthers, who had the 55^th pick. And Alexandria native and wide receiver DJ Chark is heading to Jacksonville as the Jaguars picked up him with the 61^st pick.

LSU’s Arden Key, who at one time was considered a future first round pick, went in the third round to the Oakland Raiders.

Ragin Cajuns safety Tracy Walker went in the third round to the Lions.

The Saints used their third round selection to take Central Florida wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith, who caught 13 touchdown passes in 2017.

The Pelicans have a lot of confidence heading into tonight’s Game 1 of the Western Conference semi-final series versus the defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors. New Orleans went 1-3 against Golden State in the regular season, but that one win came on April 7^th. Stephen Curry didn’t play in that game and he’s close to returning from that knee injury. He’s listed as questionable tonight. Tip time 9:30.

The LSU baseball team returned to the win column in the SEC last night by beating Ole Miss 5-2. After getting rouged up last week, Ma’Khail Hilliard threw seven strong innings, allowing one run and striking out six. Hunter Feduccia led the offense with three runs driven in, including a two-run double in the 6^th inning.

Elsewhere, Louisiana Tech gave up four runs in the third inning and lost to Western Kentucky 6-1. UL Lafayette had a five to nothing lead, but lost to Georgia State 6-5 in the 12 innings. The Panthers scored the winning run on a squeeze bunt.

McNeese State fell behind 3-0 and lost to Sam Houston four to three. Taylor Schwaner drove in seven runs and Southeastern Louisiana smacked Stephen F Austin 11-2.

The state Senate has passed a proposal that would allow school employees to pray with students during class hours. Before joining in the group prayers, parents would have to say its okay for teachers to participate. The bill’s sponsor, Bossier City Senator Ryan Gatti, says says denying students the ability to pray with faculty flies in the face of local culture.

A partnership between coastal advocates and private business is leading to the planting of 35,000 bald cypress in Terrebonne Parish Wetlands. Senior adviser to the Americas Wetlands Foundation Sidney Coffee says its part of a string of smaller projects.

US Senator John Kennedy says it saddens him, but he believes Secretary of State Tom Schedler should resign because of the sexual harassment allegations made against him by a longtime employee. When the accusations first surfaced, Kennedy said he’s withholding judgement, but his views have changed after the Advocate newspaper published a series of emails that Kennedy says shows Schedler crossed the line.

The nation could be facing a truck driver shortage of over 100 thousand by 2022, and that means higher prices for consumers. Matt Doyle has more.
