Whether or not charges will be filed in the case of the LSU freshman who died in a possible hazing incident is still a long way from being known.  Michelle Southern reports.

An explosion in a home injured three people today including 90 year old Dwena Henry, an alderman for the village of Stanley in DeSoto parish and her daughter Sharon Fletcher who is the Stanley mayor.  William Roe, a friend of the family was also injured in the explosion according to DeSoto Parish Sheriff Rodney Arbuckle.  Reportedly, Henry was cooking when Roe and Fletcher smelled gas in home on the 600 block of Highway 763.

The White House holds a summit with presidents of black colleges today but Grambling State President Rick Gallot  is not there.  Gallot says that he is not boycotting, but there’s a lot happening on the Grambling campus between the start of the a new semester and football season….

Phi Delta Theta has shut down its LSU chapter as result of 18-year-old Max Gruver’s death. Gruver was pledging at the fraternity and died from the result of a possible hazing incident. No charges have been filed in the case and East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore says that could take awhile. Moore says he’s met with the Gruver family and they are devasted…

Baton Rouge police say 23-year-old Kenneth Gleason remains a person of interest in the fatal shooting of two black men last week. Sergeant Don Coppola says Gleason, who is white, was in a vehicle that matched the description from the two homicides and it’s possible the shootings were racially motivated…

Gleason is facing drug charges and has bonded out of jail.

The White House is holding a summit for leaders of black colleges, but Grambling State President Rick Gallot has decided not to go. Gallot says it’s not a sign of protest and in fact, he’s pleased the White House has re-opened the access to Pell Grants for summer school students….

A Baton Rouge man considered a person of interest in the shooting deaths of two black men last week, has bonded out of jail. 23-year-old Kenneth Gleason was arrested over the weekend on drug charges. Baton Rouge Police Sgt. Don Coppola says Gleason has yet to be cleared of the homicides.

The first murder took place last Tuesday night when 59-year-old Bruce Cofield was fatally shot and on Thursday, near LSU, 49-year-old Donald Smart was shot to death while walking to work. Coppola says Gleason was in a vehicle that matched the description from the two homicide investigations. He says they are still working to determine a motive.

Coppola says Gleason was charged with possession of a schedule one, marijuana and a schedule three, human growth hormone. He says the circumstances surrounding both shootings are extremely similar.

East Baton Rouge DA Hillar Moore says it will probably be a while before they’ll know if charges will be brought in the case of the LSU freshman who died in a possible hazing incident at his fraternity. Preliminary autopsy findings indicated that 18-year-old Max Gruver had high levels of alcohol in his system at the time of death. Moore says this investigation will be long:

The official cause of death from the coroner’s office may not be known for several weeks as they await toxicology results. Moore says some members of the fraternity were fully cooperative with LSU police…:

The Louisiana Democratic Party opposes U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy’s and three other Republican lawmakers bill to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. Party Spokesperson D’Seante Parks says this legislation would end the Medicaid expansion, which covers more than 430-thousand Louisiana residents.

For the fourth straight season the Saints are 0-2 as New England beat New Orleans 36-20 to hand the Black and Gold their second straight defeat to start the year. The Patriots jumped out to a 20-3 lead as Quarterback Tom Brady threw three first quarter touchdown passes in the first quarter. Head Coach Sean Payton says the lack of a pass rush allowed the Pats to put up 557 tiotal yards of offense…

New Orleans is now 1-11 in the month of the September over the past four seasons.

The Saints will visit Carolina next Sunday. They will not have to worry about tight end Greg Osen, who broke his foot in the first half against the Bills, but Carolina still won 9-3. Atlanta and Tampa Bay also won yesterday.

“Tell the truth Monday” will not be kind for the LSU Tigers after they were embarrassed 37-7 by Mississippi State. The Tigers were beat at the line of scrimmage, the defense had blown assignments and LSU also committed 9 penalties for 112 yards. The median household income in Louisiana declined by over 2-percent in 2016, the largest decrease in the nation according to Census Figures. LSU Economist Doctor Loren Scott says this decrease is a result of the struggling oil and gas industry…:

Governor John Bel Edwards and state Transportation Secretary Shawn Wilson are in Washington DC to discuss federal funding for the Comite River Diversion Canal. Wilson says the flood control project could have reduced the massive flooding that took place in the Baton Rouge area last year and Louisiana is ready to move forward on the plan….

The LSU AgCenter has finalized its contract with GB Sciences, which will grow medical marijuana for Louisiana patients who have specific conditions. GB Sciences will renovate the production facility and availability to patients is expected by mid-2018.

Today, Governor John Bel Edwards and DOTD Secretary Shawn Wilson are in Washington D.C. to meet with the US Army Corps of Engineers to discuss the long-delayed Comite River Diversion Canal, a flood control project for the Baton Rouge area. Wilson says the state has committed a significant amount of resources for this project, and it’s time for the Corps to do their part…:

Wilson says the project, intended to be funded by the Corps, was approved in 1992, and has been tied up over the years in federal bureaucracy. He says they know that the floods of 2016 would have been lessened to a certain extent by this project, and Louisiana is ready to move the ball…:

Wilson says the project would be a channel that diverts water out of the Comite, and takes it directly to the Mississippi River and away from more populated areas. He says the dollars that the state has ready to spend will help move the project forward, but the feds need to commit to getting it done:

For the fourth consecutive year, the Saints have started 0-2 as they dropped a 36-20 decision to the New England Patriots. Quarterback Tom Brady scorched the New Orleans defense for 447 yards and three touchdowns. On offense, the Saints converted just 33% of their third down opportunities.

Attorney General Jeff Landry is alerting consumers to be on the lookout when buying vehicles, as nearly one million vehicles were flooded in Texas and Florida during recent hurricanes. Landry says these flood-damaged vehicles could end up on the streets and sold to unsuspecting car buyers…

Landry says fraudsters tend to cross state lines to avoid scrutiny and they work to obtain false titles to hide flood damage. He advises consumers to obtain a vehicle history report. The principal wanted by Baton Rouge police after allegedly locking a 5-year-old in a closet has turned himself in to authorities. Sgt. L’Jean McKneely says 31-year-old Shafeeq Deen has been charged with cruelty to a juvenile and false imprisonment…:

East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner Dr. Beau Clark has released the findings from hospitals tests on the body of an 18-year-old LSU student who died in what the university calls a possible hazing incident. Clark says they did not find any internal or external signs of trauma on Maxwell Gruver:

His office will provide a toxicology test which takes about four weeks to complete. Meanwhile, a memorial mass and prayer vigil for Gruver will take place Monday at 6 PM at the Christ King Catholic Church at LSU.

An Alexandria Police officer has been booked into the Rapides Parish detention center on malfeasance and drug charges. State Trooper Scott Moreau says State Police received a tip last month regarding criminal activity involving 42-year-old Kenneth Thomas who allegedly had sex with at least one woman, while on-duty, and distributing illegal drugs…:

Alexandria Police Chief Neal Bates says Officer Thomas has been placed on Administrative Leave.

And here’s a bizarre story out of Terrebonne Parish. Houma Police arrested a man and woman who were allegedly caught having sex in a library. Authorities say 33-year-old Elizabeth Jernigan and 35-year-old Rex Jernigan also recorded themsevles and uploaded the video to a porn site. Through their investigation, it was determined the couple recorded themselves doing similar activities at other businesses.

Deen is charged with cruelty to a juvenile and false imprisonment and the charter school’s board suspended Deen while they investigate.

Authorities say a prison guard at Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola fatally shot an inmate after first firing a warning shot. The state department of Corrections says 35-year-old Brandon Lizotte was among a group of prisoners being escorted to work an area when he aggressively ran towards a correctional officer. The officer fired his service weapon striking Lizotte. Lizotte was serving a life sentence for second-degree murder in Tangipahoa Parish in 2006.

LSU and Mississippi State meet tonight in Starkville in the SEC opener for both teams. The Tigers best pass rusher returns to the field. Arden Key missed the first two games as he continued to recover from shoulder surgery. Key and the rest of the Tigers will look to control Bulldogs Quarterback Nick Fitzgerald who has 152 yards on the ground already this season. Tigers linebacker Devin White on this Mississippi State offense…

Kick-off is at 6 PM.

The other big game in the SEC is Tennessee at Florida. The Vols are averaging 42 points a game. In College Station, Texas A-and-M hosts UL Lafayette. True freshman Kellen Mond might get the start for the Aggies at quarterback. Senior Jake Hubenak will reportedly not play because of a shoulder injury. Kick-off is at 11 AM.

Louisiana Tech and Western Kentucky resume their rivalry today as the two teams meet in Bowling Green, Kentucky at 6 PM. These two teams split a pair of games last season, Tech won in the regular season, but the Hilltoppers were victorious in the Conference USA title game.

Defending SWAC champion Grambling State opens defense of its league title by hosting winless Jackson State. Jackson State has really struggled to start the season. They’ve only scored 15 points in two games and they allowing almost 400 yards of total offense.

Tulane is at 2nd ranked Oklahoma. The Green Wave has never defeated a team ranked in the top five.

ULM hosts Southern Miss. It’s the first meeting between these schools since 1993. Southeastern Louisiana is at Central Arkansas. Northwestern State hosts Lamar, Nicholls State takes on Priaire View and McNeese State is at Alcorn State.

The Saints host New England tomorrow. Offensive tackle Zach Strief has been ruled out for the game because of an injury.
