The University of Louisiana at Monroe has a new four-year degree program that is the first of its kind in the state.  It’s called Unmanned Aircraft Systems Management and it’s all about drones and their use in various industries. ULM Professor Dr. Paul Karlowitz…

Karlowitz says he’s already getting contacted by companies looking to hire drone pilots and the use of drones can be applied to many different lines of work.

A man shot by Shreveport police officers has died. Authorities responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle when the situation escalated and alleged car thief was shot.

And the Natchiotches Sheriff’s office says two young men were were found dead in a vehicle early this morning in Natchitoches. Both men were men shot several times.

Gaming Control Board Chairman Ronnie Jones warns regulating online fantasy sports could be expensive. Jones says they expect not every parish will approve it on the November sixth ballot, so they’ll have to geofence those parishes that don’t allow players to use Fan Duel or Draft King. He says the legislature is expected to come up with a way to tax fantasy sports next year, which can pay for the geofencing…

An Oak Grove Police officer has been arrested and charged with second-degree rape. State Police Trooper Michael Reichardt says their investigation revealed 27-year-old David Tyler Boyd of Lake Providence had sex with a teenager…..

Boyd was arrested in Oak Grove and he has resigned as a police officer.

A team of LSU Health New Orleans researchers has discovered that even obese women can reduce the chance of passing on active obesity genes to their children by eating healthy during the pregnancy. LSU School of Public Health Professor, Doctor Richard Scribner, says if this is verified, that could make preventing the disease later in kids much easier….

Scribner says they came to their conclusion by studying what woman in the Caribbean country of Grenada ate a diet, rich in healthy foods.

A man is in grave condition after he was shot by a Shreveport police officer yesterday afternoon. Officers were on the scene responding to a call of suspicious vehicle and the situation escalated. Police Chief Alan Crump says multiple shots were fired and the officers took the actions necessary against an alleged car thief.

The starters are not expected to play much, so it’s a chance for young players to make an impression and solidify their spot on the 53-man roster. Coach Sean Payton on what he wants to see…

The Pelicans have reportedly signed free agent center Jahlil Okafor to a two-year contract. The 76ers used the third pick in the 2015 draft on the former Duke star, but his pro career has never taken off.

Former LSU wide receiver Jarvis Landry was the star of last night’s Hard Knocks episode which is following the Cleveland Browns through training camp. Landry went on a 98-second, profanity riddled rant letting his fellow wide receivers know if they are not hurt, they should be practicing.

At LSU fall camp, freshman wide out Ja’Marr Chase was in a gold non-contact jersey yesterday, but he continues to look impressive during the periods open for the media to view. A big position battle is at cornerback opposite of Greedy Williams. Based on how reps are distributed, Kary Vincent is running with the first group along with Williams.

Louisiana Tech has off from practice today. Bulldogs Coach Skip Holtz says it’s too early to tell if they have another freshman stud on this team. Last year, cornerback Amik Robertson emerged as an one of their top players on defense, leading the team with five-interceptions.

We are waiting on an official I-D from the Orleans Parish Coroner’s office regarding the woman pulled from Lake Ponchatrain. It’s believed that it’s 32-year-old Sadie Thibodeaux who was reported missing after an unmanned sailboat was found Sunday night. The coroner is also expected to give an official cause of death.

A now former police officer in Oak Grove has been arrested on an accusation he raped a teenager. Senior State Police Trooper Michael Reichardt says investigators have determined 27-year-old David Tyler Boyd of Lake Providence had sexual intercouse with a teen after receiving a complaint last month. Reichardt says Boyd was booked on a charge of second-degree rape…

Despite several major hurricanes hitting the area, a new US Census Bureau Report reveals the population along the Gulf Coast has increased almost 25-percent from 2000 to 2016, the fastest growth among coastline regions. Demographer Greg Rigamer says the rebuild after a hurricane provides employment opportunities….

Even though the Gulf Coast has seen its fair share of hurricanes, the US Census Bureau has released new data that shows the population of coastline counties has increased by more than three million people or nearly 25-percent from 2000 to 2016. Demographer Greg Rigamer says jobs are driving the population growth….

Louisiana State Police have applied for two federal grants to improve school safety in the wake of the deadly shooting at a Florida high school that left 17 dead. Governor John Bel Edwards says he has a 19-member commission evaluating safety measures…

Edwards says the federal school safety grants could pay for more metal detectors and programs to address mental health issues.

A report from LSU Health New Orleans researchers indicates obese women may be able to prevent their children from falling prey to adolescent obesity by eating a healthy diet when pregnant. LSU School of Public Health Professor Dr. Richard Scribner says if further research confirms the results, you can add high sugar, processed foods to the list of no go’s for pregnant women.

The team took a trip to the Caribbean island of Grenada, and discovered that obesity rates spiked in adults there, but not the school children they studied, because mothers consumed healthy diets while pregnant.

The Orleans Coroner’s office will determine if the female body pulled from Lake Ponchartrain last night is that of 32-year-old Sadie Thibodeaux. The Baton Rouge woman recently moved to New Orleans and was reported missing Sunday night when an unmanned sailboat was discovered. Authorities say Thibodaux was on that boat with another man, who was rescued Monday. The coroner will also determine a cause of death.

An Oak Grove police officer has resigned following his arrest for allegedly raping a teenager. Authorities say they received a complaint received in July pertaining to the now former officer. State Police Trooper Michael Reichardt confirms the identity of the arrested individual.

Oak Grove Mayor Adam Holland calls the incident an embarrassment for the town and the police department.

It’s the first week of school for many and Governor John Bel Edwards is still pushing the idea of having a school resource officer in every public school as a safety precaution. Edwards says his office is still waiting to hear how many officers are needed and of course funding is an issue…

A state judge has denied a request to move a trial because the African-American defendant claimed he could not get a fair trial, because of a Confederate statue outside of the East Feliciana Parish courthouse. Attorney Niles Haymer says he plans to appeal and will file similar motions for other black clients who are charged in East Feliciana Parish.

LSU’s baseball schedule for 2019 has been released and the Tigers will open the season versus ULM February 15th at Alex Box Stadium. The Bayou Bengals first road game will be February 20th against Northwestern State. The Tigers will also visit Texas and play the Longhorns during the first weekend of March. SEC play begins March 15th at home against Kentucky.

Veteran infielder Chris Reid is no longer with the team. Coach Paul Mainieri told Tiger Rag magazine that it’s a numbers issue as they didn’t have room for Reid on their 35-man roster. Reid hit .267 last season.

ULM softball coach Corey Lyon has resigned to become an assistant coach at Marshall. Lyon was 111 and 115 in four seasons in Monroe.

The Saints first preseason game is Thursday night against Jacksonsville and the team has released a depth chart for the game. It lists former first round pick Sheldon Rankins and former fourth round pick David Onyemata as co-starters. It’s a sign Onyemata could be out playing Rankins during the first couple weeks of training camp.

Former Destrehan standout Glen Logan has a chance to start at left end for LSU this season. Logan, who almost transferred a year ago, says he’s become a much smarter player because of fellow defensive end Rashard Lawrence…
