Governor John Bel Edwards is calling on Secretary of State Tom Schedler to resign immediately as a result of a lawsuit filed that accuses the state’s top election official of sexual harassment. Edwards says sexual harassment in the workplace should not be tolerated…

An employee in the Secretary of State’s office filed the suit. Schedler admits to having what he calls a consensual sexual relationship with the accuser.

The House was scheduled to vote on tax bills today as there’s a week to go in the special session that was called to address a looming one billion dollar budget deficit. Houma Representative Tanner Magee says any tax bill will need 70 votes to pass and he doesn’t see it happening…

LSU System President F King Alexander says the school’s hazing policy will not leave any gray area, if you haze, you’ll be expelled. Alexander says this policy is part of 28 recommendations that the university will put in place as a result of the death of a fraternity pledge last September. Authoities say Maxwell Gruver drank himself to death in a hazing incident.

And Governor Edwards just told reporters a few minutes ago that he believes Schedler should step down as well.

Meanwhile, at the state capitol we are still waiting to see if the House will vote on any legsiation to address a looming one billion dollar budget. So far all of the discussions today have taken place behind closed doors. Some legislators are concerned nothing will get done this special session.

Republican U-S Senator John Kennedy says he doesn’t plan on voting for any of the gun control bills that may come before the Senate in reaction to the deadly mass shooting at a Florida school two weeks ago. Kennedy says statistically gun owners are not the problem…

A flash flood watch has been issued for a good part of north Louisiana, because more heavy rainfall is on the way. Shreveport National Weather Service Forecaster Aaron Stevens says the area can’t take any more water…

The LSU baseball team hit three home runs last night in a 10-3 victory over Grambling State. Austin Bain continued his hot hitting with a 429-foot shot off the TV tower in center field. Hal Hughes and Bryce Jordan also homered. The Tigers travel to Southeastern Louisiana tonight.

The Cajuns will host Nicholls State. UL Lafayette Coach Tony Robichaux will not be in the dugout. Robichaux will begin serving a two-game suspension. He was ejected from Sunday’s loss to Wright State for arguing with the umps after they ruled an apparent home run was foul.

Elsewhere, McNeese hosts 21st ranked Mississippi State. The Cowboys are 1-6, while the Bulldogs are 3-4. And Northwestern State is at La Tech.

LSU is at South Carolina tonight. The Tigers are looking to snap a six-game losing streak on the road. To do so, they need to slow down six-foot-nine forward Chris Silva, who is averaging 14 points and eight rebounds a game. Tip-off is at 5:30.

The Pelicans take a six-game winning streak in San Antonio tonight. During this season high win streak, Anthony Davis has averaged 42 points, 15 rebounds and three blocked shots a game. Tip-off is at 7:30.

The Sun Belt has released football schedules for the upcoming. UL Lafayette will play Grambling for the first time ever in the season opener on September 1st in Lafayette. The Cajuns also visit Alabama on September 29th. ULM has road games against Ole Mis and Texas A-and-M.

Northwestern State opens its season against the Aggies in College Station. That game has been moved to Thursday night August 30th and it will be televised by the SEC Network.

Former Tulane star and Slidell native Matt Forte has announced his retirement from the NFL after a 10-year career. He rushed for over eight thousand yards with the Bears and Jets.

The 14th ranked LSU Tigers fell behind 3-0 to Grambling State last night but the Bayou Bengals eventually got the bats going and won 10-3. A three-run home run by Bryce Jordan in the sixth inning gave LSU the lead and the Tigers scored six times in the 7th inning. Hal Hughes homered and Austin Bain clubbed a long home run in that seventh inning. Starting pitcher Cam Sanders struck out eight, but gave up three runs in four innings. The bullpen was terrific again as Ma’Khail Hilliard threw four shutout innings for the win. The Tigers travel to Hammond to face Southeastern Louisiana in front of a sold out crowd tonight.

In other action last night, Jackson State downed ULM 7-1. Southern Miss outscored UNO 9-7, Southern upended Alcorn State six to one and Tulane trounced Lamar seven to one.

The Pelicans go after their seventh straight win tonight as they visit the San Antonio Spurs. Tip-off is at 7:30.

We might see a change with the NFL pass interference rule. When defensive pass interference is called now, the offense gets the ball at the spot of the foul. But the NFL Competition Committee is looking at making defensive pass interference only a 15-yard penalty like how it is in college football.

The 2018 Sun Belt football schedule is out. ULM opens Sun Belt Belt play at home against Troy on September 22nd, but five of their first seven are on the road. That includes back-to-back road games at Southern Miss and Texas A&M. The Cajuns open conference by play hosting Coastal Carolina on September 22nd. They will visit defending national champion Alabama the next week.

It’s the final week of the regular season for the LSU men’s basketball team. The Tigers are at South Carolina looking to break a six-game losing streak. The top two teams in the Southland are on the road tonight. Nicholls visits Northwestern State and Southeastern Louisiana will face UNO at Lakefront Arena.

The Pelicans are flying high as they have a six-game winning streak thanks to the outstanding play by five-time All-Star Anthony Davis. A-D had 53 points, 18 rebounds and five blocked shots in a 125-116 win over the Phoenix Suns. During this six-game winning streak, A-D has scored 38 or more points five times and has eclipsed 40 points four times. With 22 games left in the regular season, the Pelicans are tied for fifth place in the Western Conference and they begin a three-game road trip tomorrow in San Antonio.

LSU football has announced that Texas Tech transfer Jonathan Giles will wear number seven for the Tigers in 2018. The wide receiver is eligible to play this season after sitting out last year because of NCAA transfer rules. He caught 69 passes for 1,158 yards and 13 touchdowns in his last season in Lubbock in 2016.

Former LSU Tiger and Philadelphia Eagles punter Donnie Jones has announced his retirement from the NFL after 14 seasons.

LSU men’s basketball coach Will Wade says himself and the program have had zero contact with the NCAA. Wade made the comments one day after a Yahoo Sports report that said the association’s enforcement officials were looking at Wade’s recruiting tactics. LSU is at South Carolina tomorrow and the Tigers finish the regular season on Saturday against Mississippi State. If the season ended today, the Tigers would be the 10th seed in the SEC Tournament in St. Louis.

In college baseball tonight, LSU hosts Grambling State, while Northwestern State and Louisiana Tech has postponed until tomorrow.

The Sun Belt Conference released its football schedule for 2018. The Cajuns will visit the Warhawks in Monroe on November 24th.

State and local officials are keeping an eye on rising river levels along the Red River, Ouachita and Mississippi Rivers. Avoyelles, Beauregard, Bossier, Caddo, Grant, Morehouse, Natchitoches, Ouachita and Rapides parishes are under a state of emergency. GOHSEP spokesperson Mike Steele says the declaration allows the state to coordinate response efforts with local officials…

River flooding is also a concern in southwest Louisiana. The Calcasieu River at Oberlin is six feet above flood stage and flooding is also anticipated in Kinder.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s office has released the names of three people arrested in last Friday’s shooting on the Southeastern Louisiana campus that left two people injured. One of the individuals is on the S-L-U basketball team. 19-year-old Jabbar Singleton has been charged with illegal discharge of a firearm and carrying a firearm on school property. 19-year-old Jacoby Senegal of Abbeville was booked on attempted murder charges.

The parents of a newborn have been charged with attempted first-degree murder after their baby was found in the trash. Alexandria Police detectives are investigating the case and booked Thelma Kirkland and Carl Hall. The newborn remains on life support after the baby was transported to a local hospital.

And New Orleans police have charged two men and their mother for a shooting that occurred along a Mardi Gras Day parade route that injured two, severely wounding one of the victims.

Governor Edwards has declared a State of Emergency for several parishes along the Mississippi, Ouachita and Red Rivers. Flood watches and warnings remain in effect through Thursday afternoon as an additional two to four inches of rainfall is expected.  GOHSEP spokesman Mike Steele says persons living near those areas need to remain alert…

Steele says river forecasters say this could be just the start of an extended period in which flooding will continue to impact areas already water logged…

LSU has confirmed there is no active investigation on the Tiger basketball program.  Yahoo Sports says an NCAA inquiry was started to learn more about Coach Will Wade’s recruiting efforts across the country.  Rivals.com says the 2018 class is ranked third in the country.   In a press conference Monday, Wade says he’s just looking for the best players for his program…

The House is scheduled to meet again tomorrow to pass legislation towards solving the fiscal cliff. Edwards called a 17-day special session so t legislators can pass revenue generating bills to close a looming billion dollar budget defcit. Republicans are pushing a sales tax bill, while Democrats beleieve higher wage earners should pay higher income taxes.

The Red River and several other rivers in north Louisiana are on the rise and there’s a threat for flooding. Mike Steele, with the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, says the situation could get worse before it gets better…
