The Texas man charged with negligent homicide in the suspected hazing death of LSU student Maxwell Gruver was told by other members of the Phi Delta Theta to stop shooting pledges with an airsoft gun. That’s according to new court records filed in the case. Matthew Alexander Naquin also allegedly had reckless interactions with pledges before Gruver’s death.

Two months from today, voters will cast ballots in the special election for Secretary of State. The race has been quiet and political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says the candidates are struggling to raise campaign cash…

LSU has adopted an admission policy that will no longer reject a student just because he or she scores 21 or lower on the ACT. LSU Vice President of Enrollment Jose Aviles says they are taking a more holistic review of those students and they’ll also consider the student’s entire profile, which includes activities outside of school and recommendation letters. Aviles says they are already seeing positive results….

A Louisiana Office of Motor vehicle employee is facing felony theft charges after she allegedly overcharged Baton Rouge customers for nearly a year. State Police Trooper Bryan Lee says after investigating 25-year-old Dequsha Ingram of Sunshine they determined she was overcharging O-M-V customers and presumably pocketing the difference. Lee has this advice for the public…

Ingram faces five charges of felony theft, injuring public records and computer fraud.

The N-F-L season kicks off tonight with defending Super Bowl champs, Philadelphia hosting the Atlanta Falcons. New Orleans will take on Tampa Bay in the Dome on Sunday to begin its season. The Buccaneers were just 5-11 last season and won just one game on the road. But Quarterback Drew Brees says it’s never easy to play Tampa Bay…

The Saints have released former Louisiana Tech running back Boston Scott. The team hopes he clears waivers so they can add Scott to the practice squad. Also starting left guard Andrus Peat did not practice yesterday as he battles a quadriceps injury.

LSU has announced they’ll use metal detectors at gates into Tiger Stadium on Saturday. By 2020, the SEC requires metal detectors at every gate.

After winning its season opener on Saturday, ULM looks to improve to 2-0 in Hattiesburg as the Warhawks face Southern Miss. ULM lost to the Golden Eagles 28-17 last season in a game where the Warhawks threw for just 112 yards. Coach Matt Viator says Southern Miss does a good job of creating chaos on defense…

The 2019 class of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame is headlined by former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning and ex-LSU Coach Les Miles. Former Louisiana Tech quarterback Matt Dunigan and Peabody High School basketball coach Charles Smith are also in the class.

Former LSU star Alex Bregman hit a two-run homer last night and the Astros beat the Twins again nine to one.

LSU’s home opener is Saturday versus Southeastern Louisiana and for the first time ever some fans will have to go through metal detectors to get into Tiger Stadium. LSU will use metal detectors at select gates. The SEC says by the year 2020, every fan will have to walk through a metal detector.

We are two months out from the November 6th special election for Secretary of State and the race has been void of commercials, mailers and even campaign signs. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says it’s hard to run a statewide campaign on a six figure budget…

In a surprising move, the Saints have reportedly waived former Louisiana Tech running back and Zachary native Boston Scott. Scott was on the 53-man roster after cut down day on Saturday after averaging over four yards a carry, while also showing pass catching and kick returning skills. But the re-signing of Michael Ola resulted in Scott’s departure.

LSU’s passing game remains a work in progress despite the team’s 33-17 win over Miami last weekend. There were dropped passes, poor protection and even quarterback Joe Burrow admits he made some mistakes. Burrow also says he didn’t mind just 24 pass attempts…

The Tigers will can work more on the passing game this Saturday against Southeastern Louisiana.

Junior running back Jaqwis Dancy led the Bulldogs to victory last week as he averaged 10 yards a carry and finished with 144 yards and two touchdowns against South Alabama. Coach Skip Holtz says if Dancy stays healthy, he’ll rush for over 1,000 yards this season, which is remarkable considering he was diagnosed with cancer in 2016…

Peyton Manning and Les Miles highlight the 2019 induction class for the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, which was announced today. They will be inducted next June.

Louisiana did not see any impacts as Tropical Storm Gordon made landfall last night near the Alabama-Mississippi line. Gordon weakened to a depression over central Mississippi and it’s moving northwest at 14 miles per hour. The center of Gordon is expected to move just north of northeast Lousiaina.

LSU Health New Orleans has some promising news for those who suffer from chronic knee pain. Matt Doyle has more.

A Baton Rouge man who’d been accused of attempted murder of a police officer during a traffic stop last month has had his charges dropped by the DA. The officer says while retreating, 21-year-old Raheem Howard fired at him, but the DA says there’s just not enough evidence to back that up. Howard’s lawyer, Ron Haley, says it’s a troubling incident that needs further investigation.

Howard is being held at the jail on other warrants.

12 years after his disappearance, the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s office is still seeking the public’s help in finding Clint Nelson, who was last seen leaving a party in Princeton on September 1, 2006. Lt. Bill Davis says Nelson’s mother has worked with investigators as they try to find closure in this case…

Gordon, which is now a tropical depression over central Mississippi, has knocked out power for thousands in Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. But Louisiana has sunny skies. Eric Carpenter, with the National Weather Service, says Gordon is expected to move over northeast Louisiana and that’s when the rain could start falling….

The northeastern corner of Louisiana is under a flash flood watch.

LSU Health New Orleans has enrolled two patients suffering from chronic knee pain who are getting a new treatment that will regrow cartilage instead of undergoing a knee replacement surgery….

That’s Principle Investigator Doctor Vinod Dasa, who says patients receive a single implant through a minimally invasive surgery and 80 patients worldwide have been enrolled in the trial.

LSU will no longer automatically reject an applicant just because of a low score on the ACT or SAT. The flagship university will also look at recommendation letters, personal essays and the applicant’s activities outside of school. LSU vice president and executive director of policy, Jason Droddy, says standardized test scores are not a true indicator of college success.

This week marks twelve years since Clint Nelson left a party in Bossier Parish and hasn’t been seen since. Kevin Barnhart has the story.

Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser, along with state tourism officials, chefs and local convention and visitor bureau leaders are in China for a 10-day trip where they will meet with Chinese officials and tour operators. Nungesser says China is the one of the largest tourist markets for the United States, so he’s hoping a personal trip will lead to more visitors to Louisiana.

LSU Health New Orleans has enrolled its first two patients for what they say is a revolutionary treatment for chronic knee pain. Associate Professor Vinod Dasa says the early results are promising, and it could be a big relief for thousands who suffer, but are not eligible for traditional knee replacements.

This week marks the 12th anniversary of the disappearance Clint Nelson. Nelson was last seen September 1, 2006 when he was walking out of a party in Bossier Parish. Lt. Bill Davis says investigators have combed through tips and continue to ask for the public’s help.
