After losing to Detroit last night, the Pelicans are back at it tonight as they visit Oklahoma City. Anthony Davis will miss his third game with an injured finger and Nikola Mirotic is also out with a right calf strain. He suffered the injury in last night’s loss to the Pistons. Tip time is at 7 PM.

In college basketball, the Ragin Cajuns host South Alabama tonight. It’s UL-Lafayette’s first home game in nearly three weeks, they are 2-and-3 in the Sun Belt. ULM is also home tonight and the Warhawks will take on Troy. Both teams are in the middle of the pack in the Sun Belt Standings. Louisiana Tech faces one of the top teams in Conference USA. The Marshall Thundering Herd battle the Bulldogs in Ruston. Tech will look to snap a two-game losing streak.

LSU won it’s eight straight last night as the Tigers defeated Georgia 92-82. Sophomore guard Tremont Waters had a season-high 26 points, but Coach Will Wade is not happy his team gave up 82 points. The Tigers, who are 5-0 in the SEC, are at Missouri on Saturday.

The seven-member New Orleans City Council unanimously approved a resolution today asking the NFL to investigate why a flag wasn’t thrown for pass interference against the Rams in the final two minutes of regulation in the NFC Championship game. Council members say the blown call cost the city sales tax revenues and since there was also helmet-to-helmet contact, the NFL is failing in its effort to ensure player safety.

LSU is ranked number one in the USA Today college baseball preseason poll. It’s the third poll that’s come out in the last month that has the Tigers ranked number one. The Bayou Bengals begin preseason workouts tomorrow and opening day is February 15th.

Geri Glasco, the daughter of UL-Lafayette Softball Coach Gerry Glasco, was one of two people killed in an overnight chain reaction crash on Interstate 10 in Lafayette. She was also a volunteer coach for the Lady Cajuns softball team. Geri Glasco was just 24-years-old.

Two are dead following a five-vehicle crash on I-10 in Lafayette, including the daughter of the Lady Cajuns head softball coach. A Houston man and 24-year-old Geri Glasco of Arnaudville, who was also a volunteer softball coach at UL-Lafayette, were pronounced dead at the scene. State Trooper Thomas Gossen says the chain reaction crash started with an 18-wheeler traveling too fast in an active construction zone.

Gossen says Glasco and 45-year-old Kenneth McNeil died at the scene and alcohol tests on all of the drivers involved are pending.

The area has several hot spots of active construction and Gossen encourages drivers to practice patience and vigilance when behind the wheel.

Gossen says 67-year-old William Rawlings of Killeen, Texas, was behind the wheel of the of the semi that caused the accident. Charges are pending.

Governor John Bel Edwards has announced plans to spend 350-million dollars on coastal restoration and flood protection projects. Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana spokesperson Jimmy Frederick says nearly 300-million is federal dollars from the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act….

The other 55-million dollars for coastal work comes from state surplus money. Frederick says the previous administration took away money for designated coastal projects and spent it elsewhere…

Some of the state surplus dollars will go to the long-delayed West Shore Lake Pontchartrain hurricane protection project, which will protect LaPlace and surrounding areas. Frederick says these projects are critical to the overall health of the coast…

Food banks are facing a possible hunger crisis as the partial government shutdown continues.  Jay Vise, spokesman for Second Harvest Food Bank, who serves hundreds of food pantries across south Louisiana, says they’ve seen an increased demand for help during the shutdown.

Vise says they are currently getting ready to face a serious challenge in the coming weeks because of issues with food stamps programs caused by the shutdown.

Vise encourages donations beyond just food as people are in need of many different supplies at this time.

The recently sworn in mayor of Shreveport Adrian Perkins is attending the US Conference of Mayors Annual winter meeting in Washington D-C. Perkins says gathering with other mayors will help him as he tackles some of Shreveport’s infrastructure problems

Governor John Bel Edwards office says the criminal justice reforms approved by the legislature in 2017 has helped crime rates drop in Caddo Parish. Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator says overall crime has dropped 54-percent in 20 years, with a 14-percent decline last year. Prator credits public involvement and hard work by his deputies.

UL-Lafayette is mourning the loss of volunteer softball coach Geri Glasco, who was one of two people killed in a five vehicle wreck on I-10 in Lafayette during the overnight hours. Glasco is the daughter of the head softball coach for the Lady Cajuns. State Police Trooper Thomas Gossen says the chain reaction crash occurred in a construction zone and it appears a semi didn’t slow down and hit another vehicle from behind. He says motorists need to slow down in a construction zone…

Louisiana Republican Senator John Kennedy says the Democrat’s proposal would re-open the government through February eighth, but it doesn’t contain border wall funding…

State Police say a Bossier Parish Sheriff’s deputy was seriously injured this morning while directing traffic in front of a school in Haughton today. The victim reportedly has a broken leg and head injuries.

New Orleans Congressman Cedric Richmond wants to hear from Goodell and he’s spoken with some of his colleagues about having the commissioner appear in front of a House subcommittee.

And the get in ticket prices for Super Bowl 53 are falling on the secondary market. That probably would not happen if the Saints were in the game.

The Pelicans fell to 22 and 26 on the season with a 98-94 loss to Detroit last night in the Smoothie King Center. Pistons Forward Blake Griffin scored 20 points in the first quarter and finished with 37 points. The Pels Anthony Davis missed his second game with an injured finger and there’s no certain date on when he’ll return. New Orleans is at Oklahoma City tonight.

Back to college basketball, Southeastern Louisiana defeated Houston Baptist 70-67 for its third straight win. Marlain Veal had 26 points. Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi edged Nicholls 75-73 in a back and forth game. The Colonels fall to 3-and-4 in the Southland. Sam Houston State hit 14 3-pointers and the Bearkats defeated Northwestern State 78-64. Central Arkansas downed UNO 76-71 and UCF upended Tulane 75-50.

Tonight, the Cajuns host South Alabama, Troy is at ULM and Louisiana Tech takes on Marshall.
