The Louisiana Department of Health is asking doctors to be on the alert for measles cases. Assistant state health officer, Doctor Joseph Kanter, says the CDC has documented 101 cases in 10 states, including Georgia and Texas….

A 41-year-old Prairieville woman is lucky to be alive after State Police say a suspected drunk driver hit her vehicle in Garyville on Monday morning causing it to erupt in flames. Cell phone video shows four good Samaritans dragging her out of the driver’s side door as flames shot out of the back of the car. Police say 22-year-old Richard Preston hit her vehicle and he’s been arrested.

According to 24-7 sports, LSU’s 2020 recruiting class is ranked number one in the country after receiving a commitment from four-star Texas defensive end Alec Bryant. Bryant is at Shadow Creek High in Pearland, Texas and this past season he recorded 18 tackles for a loss and eight sacks as his team finished as a state runner-up in Class 5-A. LSU’s 2020 class features 11 commitments, four of them are defensive linemen.

Because of the chance of storms in the Baton Rouge area tonight, the number one ranked LSU baseball team has moved up first pitch to 4 Pm for today’s game against Southeastern Louisiana. The Tigers are sending another freshman right-hander to the mound as Cole Henry will make his collegiate debut.

Freshman hurler Jaden Hill, who started in the win over Air Force on Sunday was named SEC Freshman of the Week as he gave up one run over five innings and struck out eight.

The LSU basketball team has moved up six spots in both polls. They are ranked 13th by the Associated and 15th in the coaches poll. When you look at the Tigers NCAA Tournament projections, most of the bracketologists have LSU as a three-seed. The Tigers begin a three-game homestand on Wednesday when they host Florida.

Last night in college basketball…Prairie View A-and-M dribbled past Grambling 92-87, while Mississippi Valley State upended Southern 70-59.

Louisiana Tech’s DaQuan Bracey is the Conference USA Player of the Week. The junior guard from Baltimore had a career-high 28 points in a win over UTEP on Thursday and then scored 23 points on Saturday in a win over Texas San Antonio. Day-Day shot 62-percent from the field in those two games. The Bulldogs are 7-and-7 in league play and they’ll host North Texas on Saturday at 7 PM. Tech is undefeated at home this year.

Meanwhile, state health officials are also encouraging Louisiana residents to take precautions from catching the flu as the carnival season begins to ramp up. The Louisiana Department of Health says flu activity has spiked in the state over the last week. Officials say a flu shot is your best defense against influenza.

LSU basketball moved up six spots today in the latest A-P Top 25 poll to number 13. No other team in the country made a larger leap. 2009 was the last time the Tigers were ranked in the Top 15. The Bayou Bengals have two home games this week, Wednesday against Florida and then Saturday they’ll host fifth ranked Tennessee. The Vols were previously ranked number one, but were knocked down from the top spot after losing to Kentucky on Saturday.

It was a good opening weekend for the number one LSU baseball team as they earned victories over ULM, Army and Air Force. The Tigers had to come from behind to beat the Warhawks and Black Knights, but scored seven runs in the first inning to defeat the Falcons 17-5 on Sunday.

Jaden Hill was the winning the pitcher yesterday as he allowed just one run on four hits in five innings and struck out eight. Today he was named SEC Freshman of the Week.

The Tigers will look to improve to 4-0 tomorrow, when they host Southeastern Louisiana. The game has been moved up to 4 Pm, because of the threat of storms in the Baton Rouge area on Tuesday night.

Anthony Davis played only five minutes in last night’s All-Star game and scored four points. New Orleans does not return from the All-Star break until Friday when they visit Indiana. It’s unclear if Davis will be uniform or will interim general manager Danny Ferry tell A-D that he can watch the rest of the season from home.

The New Orleans shot comedy/horror slasher flick Happy Death Day 2U clears 27 million in worldwide box office receipts as Louisiana film tax credit advocates celebrate nearly two years since the program was reformed. Louisiana Entertainment’s Chris Stelly says the credit is proving it’s long-term viability.

The changes put a 180 million dollar cap on total yearly credits and required productions to justify their credited expenses.

The legislative session is now on the horizon, and every year there are calls for the credit to be revoked and the 180 million to be deposited back into the general fund. Stelly hopes the legislature maintains the program, which he says supports thousands of jobs that pay 60-65 thousand on average…

Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser has also credited the program with raising the state’s profile, increasing tourism numbers.

The bulk of those production jobs are clustered in New Orleans, but Stelly says the credit has incentivized new studios to pop up statewide, joining established enterprises already at work in the Crescent City.

Food delivery service Waitr is seeing growth that will now result in 200 new jobs with an average annual salary of $55,000 in Acadiana. Waitr CEO Chris Meaux says over the next 18 months, the company will move into their new headquarters, the former Washington Life Building in the downtown area.

Waitr is now a publicly traded company and recently released it’s preliminary earnings last week with a full earnings report coming next month.  Meaux says the focus of the company in the last five years has been on growth.

A 14-year-old has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a woman and a dog at a home in Vivian last night. KTBS-TV is reporting the victim, Annette Moore, is the juvenile’s mother. Caddo Sheriff’s spokesperson Cindy Chadwick says the incident began when the victim and the 14-year-old were at home watching TV…

The dog’s condition is unknown at this time.

After allegedly stabbing his mother and the family dog, Chadwick says the teenager stormed out of the house, and found transportation.

An aide to Congressman Clay Higgins has been charged with pandering. Lafayette Parish Sheriff deputies say 47-year-old Jerod Prunty was one of eight arrested as part of an investigation looking into human sex trafficking and prostitution at massage parlors.

Authorities arrested a 14-year-old today after he allegedly stabbed a woman and the family dog at a home in Vivian. Caddo Sheriff’s office spokesperson Cindy Chadwick says the boy fled on a four-wheeler…

Baton Rouge Congressman Garret Graves says Louisiana flood control and prevention project funding will not be effected by the President’s declaration of a national emergency. The declaration allows funds to be redirected from military construction projects towards building up the southern border wall. Graves says they convinced the White House to take money from other projects.

When Congress returns to session next week, expect a resolution that attempts to block President Donald Trump’s national emergency along the U-S Mexico border. The president is expected to veto that legislation and Baton Rouge Congressman Garret Graves says there’s enough votes to override a veto, because many believe that the situation at the southern border needs to be addressed…

Legal challenges are also likely.

By calling the national emergency, the president intends to use military construction project dollars to pay for the wall. Senator Bill Cassidy says the White House also intends to use his idea of using money seized from Mexican drug cartels to pay for steel barriers along the southern border…

An armed robbery suspect is dead and five others wounded following a shootout with police in downtown New Orleans last night. Authorities say bullets began flying after undercover NOPD cops tried to question a person of interest in an armed robbery. Police says the suspect pulled out a gun at Canal Street and Elk Place and began firing at two officers. The suspect was gunned down, but innocent bystanders at the bus stop were struck.

Work begins on Wednesday to improve the Texas Street Bridge that connects downtown Shreveport to Bossier Parish. Kevin Barnhart has the story.

Drivers in the Shreveport-Bossier City area can expect intermittent lane closures for both the eastbound and westbound lanes of the Texas Street Bridge starting Wednesday. DOTD spokesperson Erin Buchanan says the bridge which is part of US 80 was built in the 1930s and needs rehabilitation.

After escaping with victories on Friday over ULM and Army on Saturday, the number one ranked LSU baseball team had an easy time of it yesterday as the Fighting Tigers defeated Air Force 17-5. Josh Smith had four hits and Antoine Duplantis also had three hits and drove in three runs. Freshman Jaden Hill struck out eight in his first collegiate start.

The Ragin Cajuns defeated 23rd ranked Texas eight to six yesterday to salvage the final game of the series. Junior Dalton Horton earned the victory as he pitched five solid innings.

Louisiana Tech swept Southeastern Louisiana with 12-8 win on Sunday in Hammond. The Bulldogs fell behind 8-4, but scored five runs in the sixth inning to overcome the four-run deficit. The Bulldogs scored 40 runs during the three game set.

ULM beat Army 10–3, Nicholls over S-I-U seven to three, Northwestern State topped Houston 2-1 in 11 innings.
