The number one ranked LSU baseball team was served some humble pie in Austin over the weekend as they were swept by Texas. The Longhorns completed the sweep by scoring three runs in the ninth inning to beat the Tigers seven to six. Todd Peterson blew the save and suffered the loss. He hit the first batter he faced in the ninth, even though it didn’t look like he hit the Longhorn hitter and then LSU failed to turn a game ending double play.

McNeese had a walk-off win over Nicholls yesterday as the Cowboys won five to four in ten innings. Nate Fisbeck had a huge game for the Pokes as he went three for five with a home run and four RBIs. Also yesterday, Holy Cross defeated Nicholls eight to six.

In college hoops, F-I-U downed Louisiana Tech 83-76, Appalachian State knocked off the Ragin Cajuns 90-80 and Temple downed Tulane 80-69.

The Pelicans are in Utah tonight. New Orleans has won two in a row after upsetting Denver on Saturday.

Former LSU star linebacker Devin White ran an impressive 4.42 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL combine yesterday. That time could result in the Cotton Valley native being selected in the Top 10 in next month’s NFL draft. Here’s what White said about his speed…

17-year-olds who are arrested for non-violent offenses will now be prosecuted through the juvenile judicial system, instead of the adult justice system. It’s the result of legislation approved in 2016. Office of Juvenile Justice Deputy Secretary Dr. James Bueche says while they don’t expect to get any new arrivals until mid-month, it’ll be a smooth process because they won’t be treated any differently.

The top ranked LSU baseball team suffered its first loss of the season last night as 18th ranked Texas handed it to the Tigers 8-1. The Bayou Bengals scored their lone run in the first inning, but only had four hits on the night. Zack Hess suffered the loss as he gave up three runs in four innings, while Chase Costello gave up another three runs in two innings. Game two is today at 3:30.

Louisiana Tech is 7-and-2 on the year after a 9-4 win over Arkansas State. Senior catcher Chris Clayton drove in a career-high four runs. Maryland doubled up the Ragin Cajuns four to two, Tennessee downed ULM seven to two, Troy topped Southeastern Louisiana five to two, McNeese held on to beat Nicholls seven to six and Northwestern State defeated Little rock 1-0.

In the NBA, the Pelicans defeated the Pheonix Suns 130-116. Jrue Holiday had 21 points and nine assists. New Orleans is at Denver tonight.

The 13th ranked LSU basketball team begins a two-game road trip in Tuscaloosa today for an 11 aM tip off at Alabama. There are three regular season games left and the Tigers are in a three-way tie for first place with Kentucky and Tennessee. The Wildcats and Volunteers will play each other later today.

Elsewhere, ULM hosts Coastal Carolina. The Warhawks are 12-and-1 at home this season.

There are seven Southland teams battling for the final three spots in the Southland Conference. Northwestern State is one of those teams. The Demons are at Southeastern Louisiana today. McNeese and Nicholls are also trying to get in the tournament. The Colonels host UNO, while the Cowboys visit Houston Baptist.

Also today, Grambling is at Arkansas Pine-Bluff.

At the girls state basketball tournament, Lafayette Christian won its third straight state title. Warren Easton won its second straight championship with a 58-49 win over Benton. Plainview won its second straight title and Elton won its first state championship since 1975. Six more champions will be crowned today in Alexandria.

Mardi Gras celebrations continue around the state.  In Lafayette, the weekend festivities get kicked off tonight, with parades on Saturday.  Executive Director of Convention and Visitors Commission Ben Berthelot says they are expecting great crowds with lots of great music.

Berthelot says the party doesn’t stop when the parades are finished as the area offers plenty of great nightlife.

Louisiana has declared a state of emergency as the Mississippi River approaches flood levels. The Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness spokesperson Mike Steele says this precaution is taken to speed up any support process needed for areas throughout the Bayou State…

Authorities suspect the plane that lost contact with the tower yesterday shortly after launching from the Shreveport Downtown Airport may be located just north of the airport in the Red River. Caddo Parish Spokesperson Cindy Chadwick says the plane launched at 1037 yesterday, and authorities say no one saw what happened next.

Chadwick denied an earlier report where a bystander was quoted as saying the plane went straight up, and straight down. She says no eyewitness has come forward saying they saw the plane go down.

A local company has leased a barge that is set to park near the suspected crash site and a team of commercial divers from Morgan City will be on scene for 7pm tonight. Chadwick says so far though, they have yet to catch a glimpse of the plane.

KTBS reports a bystander saw fuel floating on the water at that location.

The plane was headed to Vernon, Texas, and KEEL is reporting it contained one passenger and the pilot. When asked whether anyone had survived the incident, Chadwick says they have not heard from anyone on the flight.

Baton Rouge Congressman Garret Graves has been named the top Republican on the newly reformed Climate Crisis panel. The panel will focus on threats posed by climate change, but will likely feature a partisan split on the origin of the threat. Graves, who agrees that sea rise poses a threat to the nation, says the appointment will give him a platform to raise awareness of Louisiana’s vulnerabilities.

The panel was formed in 2007, but was deactivated in 2011 when Republicans took control of the House.

Graves joins five other Republicans on the panel that will be led by Democrat Kathy Kastor of Florida. The Congressman says he’ll use his position to push back against climate change policies from non-energy producing states that would impact Louisiana’s economy.

The panel, which has no subpoena or legislative authority, was brought back to life by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi amidst calls by a new wave of progressive lawmakers, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, for a powerful committee that would flesh out the details of the Green New Deal. Graves says the GND doesn’t pass the laugh test, and looks forward to it being discussed at the panel.

The Pelicans have reportedly signed Euroleague shooting guard Dairis Bertans to a two-year contract. Bertans shot nearly 50-percent from three-point territory for a team in Italy. To make room for Bertans on the roster, New Orleans has waived Tim Frazier. The Pels are in Phoenix tomorrow night.

Former LSU pitcher Aaron Nola should be a happy man. That’s because his Phillies have signed Bryce Harper to a 13-year, 330 million dollar contract.

Jason Whitten is leaving the Monday night football broadcast booth and returning to the football field. Whitten is ending his retirment so that he can play his 16th season with the Cowboys.

At the girls state basketball championships, North Caddo advanced to the Class Two-A Championship game with a 48-47 win over Red River yesterday. They’ll face Mansfield, who knocked off Rayville 57-49.

Six state champions will be crowned today and six more tomorrow. All of the games will be shown live on C-S-T. The final game tonight is the Class 4A championship game between Benton and Warren Easton.

The top ranked LSU baseball team left for Austin today where they’ll play the Texas Longhorns in a three-game series that starts tomorrow night. Texas is 7-3 on the season. The Tigers are 8-0 after beating cross town foe Southern 17-4 yesterday. Cade Beloso hit his second home run of the season and drove in four runs, while Antoine Duplantis was 4-for-5 and drove in 5 more runs. Duplantis has now driven in 23 runs in eight games.

The top ranked LSU baseball team improved to 8-0 on the season with an easy 17-4 win over the Southern Jaguars. Senior right fielder Antoine Duplantis continued his early season tear by going 4-for-5 with 5 runs batted in. But not all of the news is good for the Purple and Gold. Coach Paul Mainieri say he’s 98-percent sure Gavin Dugas will need surgery to repair a torn ligament in his thumb. Dugas could miss the next two months.

Also last night, ninth ranked Mississippi State blanked Southeastern Louisiana 12-0, ending the Lions six-game winning streak in the series history between the two teams.

The Pelicans began their four-game Mardi Gras road trip with a 125-119 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. Anthony Davis had 22 points in 21 minutes. Julius Randle had 35 points against his old team. But the Lakers prevailed as LeBron James had 33 points and 10 assists.

McNeese kept their Southland Conference Tournament hopes alive with an 84-75 victory over Nicholls in Thibodaux. Sha’Markus Kennedy had 23 of his 27 points in the second half. Both the Cowboys and Colonels are 5-and-10 in league play.

Tennessee topped Ole Miss 73 to 71 as the Volunteers improved to 13-2 in the SEC. Tennessee, Kentucky and LSU are tied for first place with three conference games left. The Vols host the Wildcats on Saturday, while the Tigers are at Alabama.

In action tonight, the Cajuns host Coastal Carolina, Appalachian STate is at ULM and Louisiana Tech takes on Marshall.

The top ranked LSU baseball team returns to the diamond tonight to host the Southern Jaguars. The Fighting Tigers are a perfect 7-0 and they will send Eric Walker to the mound for his first start since undergoing Tommy John Surgery in 2017. Walker has made two appearances out of the bullpen this season with mixed results. The Jaguars are 4-and-2 on the season. First pitch is at 6:35.

Also tonight, Southeastern Louisiana visits ninth ranked Mississippi State.

In the NBA, the Pelicans begin a four-game road trip tonight in Los Angeles against the Lakers. Anthony Davis is expected to play, but only about 20 minutes and not in the fourth quarter as the team tries to reduce the chances of him getting hurt.

In college hoops, Sam Houston State can clinch the Southland conference regular season championship crown with a win at UNO. Nicholls and McNeese meet in Thibodaux. The Colonels are coming off a game in which they hit a Southland record 22 three-pointers in a win over Central Arkansas.

For the second straight game, the 13th ranked LSU basketball team played without its starting point guard, but once again figured out a way to win without Tremont Waters. The Tigers topped Texas A-and-M 66-55 by getting the ball in the paint and playing good defense. Coach Will Wade was satisfied with what he saw…

Naz Reid had 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Javonte Smart had 17 as a he replaced Waters in the starting lineup for a second straight game. Waters was on the bench, but not in uniform for last night’s game. We’ll see if he suits up on Saturday at Alabama.

Kentucky also won last night as the Wildcats defeated Arkansas 70-66. So the Tigers and Wildcats remained tie for first place in the SEC. If Tennessee beats Ole Miss in Oxford tonight, they’ll share the came conference record as LSU and Kentucky.

During a Senate Finance hearing, Cassidy, who is a medical doctor, thanked them for their advancements in medicine, but he says some patients can not take advantage of it, because of the high cost..

Legislative Auditor Daryl Purpera is confident the Medicaid program is headed in the right direction after the implementation of a new computer check system that verifies a person’s income automatically, instead of the old way that relied on self reporting. Purpera says on a whole the new system is a good start, but…

On Tuesday, Senator John Kennedy criticized LDH, saying he did not trust the new computer system, or the people in charge of running it.

Kennedy says LDH has been uncooperative with the Auditor, a accusation Secretary Rebekah Gee disputes. Purpera says they have a good working relationship with the department, but occasionally there are disagreements.

Purpera says the department has been receptive to his ideas, and cited the recent system wide income check that revealed thousands of ineligible enrollees as one example.

Senator Kennedy has called for Secretary Gee to be fired, citing the tens of millions of dollars spent on Medicaid recipients who were not income eligible. Purpera says an audit did reveal that a significant portion of the past Medicaid population may have been income eligible.

Gee defended the department saying the funds were not wasted, and most of it was federal money.

The old state capitol in Baton Rouge has opened a new, permanent exhibit celebrating the 25th anniversary of the building’s restoration called “Castle on the River: The Evolution of Louisiana’s Old State Capitol.” It documents the building from its inception to the current function as a museum. Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin says the building’s storied history is chronicled in the exhibit.

Ardoin says the free exhibit will take those making the tour through some of the historical sections of the building.

Southwest Louisiana Congressman Clay Higgins questioned President Trump’s former personal lawyer Michael Cohen, who said before the House Oversight committee that Trump is a racist, a conman and a cheat. Cohen has pleaded guilty to lying to Congress about a Moscow real estate project that Trump denies ever pursuing. Higgins, a former law enforcement officer, had this to say to Cohen…

During his opening statement, Cohen said at one time he was so mesmerized by Trump that he was willing to do things for him that he knew were absolutely wrong. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is offering a reward of up to 75-hundred dollars for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who fatally shot a whooping crane last November. A male crane was found seriously wounded between Crowley and Rayne on November 2nd. It was later euthanized.
