48-year-old James William Eaton of West Monroe is in jail after posing online as a woman and luring another man to drive from California to Ouachita Parish thinking he was marrying that woman. Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Glen Springfield says the victim claims to have sent Eaton a total of $1000.

A woman accused of murdering her five-year-old daughter is on life support. That’s according to the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s office, who says 24-year-old Jasmine Anderson attempted to hang herself. Anderson’s attorney, Chad Guillot says considering Anderson was in a mental facility when she was arrested, the jail should have taken more precautions.

The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s office says an Alexandria woman accused of murdering her five-year-old child is on life support after a suicide attempt. 24-year-old Jasmine Anderson was arrested on July 23rd for the death of her daughter, Audrey Lynn Chelette. Anderson’s attorney Chad Guillot says his client is on life support because she’s a registered organ donor…

There’s been public speculation Anderson may have something to do with her husband’s death in 2016, and the bottle cap choking death of her four-year-old son earlier this year. But police have said as of now, Anderson is not responsible for those deaths.

Riverdale Academy basketball coach and teacher Steven Weir has been charged with 25 counts of molestation of a juvenile. The Red River Parish Sheriff’s office says the victim was a student and the alleged sex acts occurred over a six-year period.

Opelousas police have charged a man with aggravated cruelty to animals after he allegedly left his dog in a car while he gambled for six and a half hours at Evangeline Downs Casino. Byron Badeaux says he forgot the dog was inside the vehicle. The deceased dog’s remains were turned over to an Opelousas Animal Control officer.

An Alexandria mom accused of murdering her 5-year-old daughter has been declared “clinically deceased” after an attempted suicide while in the Rapides Parish Jail. Sheriff William Hilton says it appears all policies were followed. But Jasmine Anderson’s lawyer Chad Guillot says it’s unacceptable.

Anderson claimed her daughter suffered a fatal neck injury in a car accident, but detectives say the injuries are not consistent with a car wreck.

Two adults and a toddler have died from their injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash in the LaSalle Parish town of Olla. The wreck involving an 18-wheeler and a Ford Fiesta occurred around 11:30 AM on Highway 127. The three passengers in the Ford Fiesta were pronounced dead at the scene. State Police say none of them, including the toddler, were restrained.

A West Monroe man has been arrested after he allegedly tricked a man from California to come to Ouachita Parish and marry him. The victim traveled to Louisiana thinking he would marry a woman by the name of Rose, instead, he found out it was 48-year-old James William Eaton, who also received a thousand-dollars and care packages during the course of the online relationship.

A new study from LSU Pennington Biomedical researchers finds that fat stored in unhealthy locations in the stomach doubles a colorectal cancer patient’s risk of death within seven years. Dr. Justin Brown says there are two places fat gets stored in the belly, under the skin and deep in the abdomen.

Brown says female colorectal cancer patients are more at risk for death if they have a high amount of fat stored deep inside the abdomen near vital organs.

A West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s deputy is being called a hero today after he prevented a pregnant woman from jumping off the I-10 Mississippi River bridge. The dramatic rescue happened yesterday afternoon, 175 feet above the river. Lt. Ken Albarez tried to talk the woman off the bridge for 45 minutes before he eventually grabbed her and pulled her to safety.

Leaders of select schools gathered in Lafayette today to create a sub organization called the Louisiana Select Association. The L-S-A says this is not an attempt to break away from the LHSAA. One major duty for the Louisiana Select Association is to determine where championship events in football, basketball, baseball and softball should be played. Venues in New and Lafayette are potential sites.

The Saints released wide receiver Cam Meredith today. The Black and Gold signed Meredith during the 2018 offseason after he missed all of 2017 with a torn ACL. He caught 66 passes in Chicago in 2016, but his knee has not responded to major surgery, plus some younger receivers have looked impressive at camp, including rookie undrafted free agent Emmanuel Butler from Northern Arizona.

Coach Sean Payton says defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins will likely won’t be back for training camp as he continues to rehab from a torn Achilles. Defensive end Cam Jordan says they have enough talent to fill in until Rankins is ready…

Ag Commissioner Mike Strain says final testing is underway on medical marijuana produced by LSU’s grower, which means the product could be commercially available early next week. Strain says this is good news for the patients who are eligible for a medical marijuana prescription as outlined by the Legislature….

If approved the products will be available at nine licensed pharmacies around the state.

GB Sciences grew the medical pot, with oversight by LSU, and Ag Department workers picked up randomly selected vials of the product from them this morning.

The medical marijuana will be available in liquid form that will be dropped under the tongue or put into an inhaler for patients that need a faster response.

Medical marijuana was authorized in Louisiana four years ago, and proponents have hammered the state after the product was repeatedly delayed, but Strain says relative to most new treatments, this didn’t take very long…

The treatment reportedly will not be covered by insurance, but an LSU Ag Center spokesperson says they expect the products to be cheaper than many CBD oils currently available.

The Tangipahoa Parish Public School System is the latest in the state to uncover a potential cybersecurity issue.  LSU’s Stephenson National Center for Security Research Executive Director Jeff Moulton says it is likely happening due to the systems being easy targets, but could potentially be more malicious.

This comes on the heels of the news that cybersecurity issues in Sabine, Morehouse, and Ouachita Parishes sparked a statewide emergency declaration.  Moulton says it’s not likely that the hacks are being human-curated, but rather happening due to automated scripts on the search for vulnerabilities.

A missing person case in Avoyelles Parish ends in tragedy after authorities discover a body, and pin the brutal murder on the woman’s son and his girlfriend.

Kasey Bigum was last seen May 30th, and Sherriff Doug Anderson says they now believe that’s when she was murdered by 20-year-Tristin James, her son.

Authorities believe James and his girlfriend, 18-year-old Hannah Desselle, then drove the body away dumped it. Anderson says after they arrested the two last week, Desselle fessed up.

The body was found in a wooded area 20 miles south of Moreauville in Big Bend.

Anderson says the two didn’t seem to be fazed by the act, because they didn’t even report the mom missing for nearly three weeks after the murder and kept a straight face when they did report it.

The two were already in jail on obstruction charges when they were charged with 2nd degree murder.

The Saints have released wide receiver Cam Meredith after one injury-plagued season. New Orleans signed Meredith during the 2018 offseason after he missed all of 2017 with a torn ACL. Meredith only played in six games last year as his knee never quite bounced back from surgery.

Saints quarterback Drew Brees is going through his 19th training camp and Who Dats hope it’s not his last in Black and Gold. Brees showed signs at the end of last season and into the playoffs that maybe Father Time is finally catching up to him. But the future Hall of Famer says he’s trying to hold Father Time back…
