The Atlanta Falcons helped out the Saints yesterday as they upset the 49ers 29-22. Seattle’s 30-24 win over Carolina moves them into the number one seed for the time being. Green Bay is the number two seed. The Packers held off the Bears 21-13 at frigid Lambeau Field.

LSU’s Joe Burrow is the landslide winner of the Heisman Trophy this year. Burrow says he’s just a man from southeast Ohio, who had to battle adversity when he transferred from Ohio State. The 23-year-old says his story shows hard work pays off…

Burrow received 1,846 more voting points than runner-up Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts.

The 2019 high school football season concluded over the weekend with the Prep Classic. The first four games were blowouts, but the last two games on Saturday were nail bitters. Karr won its fourth straight Class Four-A title with a 35-34 win over Warren Easton. And Acadiana completed an undefeated season with an eight to three victory over Destrehan.

The Pelicans lost their 12th straight yesterday, a franchise record, as Orlando beat New Orleans 130-to-119 at the Smoothie King Center.

An impeachment vote on the House floor is expected this week. Last week the House Judiciary Committee approved two articles, abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Northwest Louisiana Congressman Mike Johnson says the founding fathers warned against single party impeachments as it would be bitterly divisive, which he says is exactly the case.

China and the US agree to a “phase one” trade deal that will see some tariffs on China canceled, and in exchange the People’s Republic agrees to purchase tens of billions dollars of US agricultural goods.

This comes on the heels of news early last week that House Democrats will back a revamped trade deal with Mexico and Canada. Purdue says these two agreements combined are great news for Louisiana Ag.

An impeachment vote on the House floor is imminent following a Judiciary Committee vote on Friday. Northwest Louisiana Congressman Mike Johnson says the founding fathers warned against single party impeachments as it would be bitterly divisive, which he says is exactly the case in this situation.

Two articles, one focusing on abuse of power related to a phone call where President Trump is accused of holding up federal aid to Ukraine in exchange for dirt on a political rival and the other on obstruction for refusal to cooperate in the impeachment inquiry, are heading to the floor. Johnson says impeachment has been the goal of Democrats since day one of the Trump administration.

Johnson says the impeachment proceedings boil down to one thing: Democrats just don’t like anything about Trump.

LSU Law Dean Thomas Galligan takes over as interim school President while the institution conducts a national search to replace former President F. King Alexander, who left for Oregon State.

Council for a Better Louisiana President Barry Erwin says the search may be national, but we’re starting to hear some prominent local names as early favorites.

Tonight, at around 7:50 LSU quarterback Joe Burrow is expected to be named the Heisman Trophy Winner for the 2019 college football season. He’ll join the late Billy Cannon as the only two players from LSU to win the Heisman trophy. The vote is expected to be a landslide in favor of Burrow, who has set numerous LSU and SEC records. In 2005, Reggie Bush received nearly 92-percent of the first place votes, we’ll see if Burrow can come close to that or possibly top it. On his way to New York, a photo was taken of Burrow readling a letter from the Cannon family.

Saints Quarterback Drew Brees is dealing with a right elbow injury, but Brees says he’ll play on Monday against the Colts. Safety Vonn Bell, linebacker Kiko Alonso, cornerback Patrick Robinson and guard Andrus Peat did not practice, while defensive end Cam Jordan and left tackle Terron Armstead were limited.

It was blowout city at the Superdome yesterday on the first day of the Allstate Sugar Bowl LHSAA Prep Classic. It all started with Ouachita Christian crushing Catholic Pointe Coupee 67-22. Eagles Q-B Hunter Herring ha seven total touchdowns and 335 total yards.
In the Class Two-A Championship game, Ferriday won its first state championship since 1959 beating Many 56-17. Trojans Quarterback Kobe Dillon threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more.
And in the final game of the day, St. James won its first state championship since 1979 as the Wildcats devoured Jennings 51-14.

So today at the Dome, the action kicks-off again at noon as Oak Grove battles White Castle for the one-a title. Warren Easton faces Karr in the 4A championship. The Cougars have won three straight titles and beat Warren Easton last year in the state title game, And in the 5A championship Destrehan will try to beat unbeated Acadiana. Linebacker Vaughan Johnson, a member fo the Saints famed “Dome Patrol” in the 1980s and early 1990s has passed away at the age of 57. Johnson died at his home in North Carolina. He was battling a kidney disease. He played for eight seasons in New Orleans and inducted into the Saints Hall of Fame in 2000.

The Class 2A title game between Many and Ferriday is the only one featuring a one versus two seed. Kick-off for this game is at 3:30. Tonight it’s the Class 3A championship game as 23rd seeded Jennings looks to upset undefeated and top-seeded St. James.

The Pelicans look to snap a 10-game losing streak in Philadelphia tonight. The 76ers have yet to lose on their home floor this season. while the Pels are just two and 10 on the road. Tip-off is at six PM.

And former NBA Commissioner David Stern had to undergo emergency surgery after suffering a brain hemorrhage last night in New York City. There has yet to be an update on the 77-year-old’s condition.

And locally, LSU President F-King Alexander is leaving Baton Rouge for a job at Oregon State.

It was a big night for LSU at the 2019 Home Depot College Football Awards Show as quarterback Joe Burrow, safety Grant Delpit and wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase all took home hardware. Burrow won the Davey O’ Brien Award for best quarterback in the nation and the Walter Camp Award, which goes to the best player in the country. Chase was named the nation’s top wide receiver and Delpit won the Jim Thorpe award which goes to the country’s best defensive back.

Up next for Burrow, it’s a trip to New York where it’s expected he’ll be named the Heisman Trophy winner on Saturday night.

The Saints will host the Indianapolis Colts on Monday night. Defensive end Cam Jordan and safety Vonn Bell did not practice yesterday. Jordan has an injury to his abdomen, while Bell is battling an injured knee.

And former Saints linebacker and member of the famed Dome Patrol, Vaughn Johnson has died at the age of 57. He died at his home in North Carolina from a kidney disease.

LSU’s Joe Burrow has been named Associated Press College Football Player of the Year. Burrow received 50 of 53 first-place votes. He is in Atlanta today along with wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase for the Home Depot College Football Awards. Chase is up for the Biletnikoff Award, which goes to the nation’s top receiver. Burrow can win the Davey O’ Brien National Quarterback Award and the Maxwell Award, which goes to the top player in college football.

Former Saints wide receiver Joe Horn is among a group of NFL retired players involved in an alleged scheme to defraud an NFL health care benefit program. Prosecutors say these former players submitted false claims to the plan and received money for expensive medical equipment never purchased. Horn could be charged with fraud.

Saints Quarterback Drew Brees will appear in an episode of the C-B-S TV Show Undercover Boss. Walk-on’s founder and co-owner Brandon Landry along with Brees will be on the season premiere show on January 8th. Brees is in disguise, with long hair and a beard and goes by the name of “Chris.” Chris will be a busser and dishwasher.

Offensive Tackle Terron Armstead has named the club’s 2019 Walter Payton Payton Man of the Year Award.

The Prep Classic begins tomorrow at the Superdome as six championship football games will be held. It starts at noon with Ouachita Christian facing Catholic Pointe Coupee. At 3:30 Many meets Ferriday and at 7 PM, Jennings battles undefeated St. James for the 3-A title.

Downtown Alexandria is the focal point of holiday spirit this weekend in Rapides Parish with the Alex Winter Fete.  There is no shortage of arts and craft vendors for holiday shopping, a gumbo cook-off, and Interim Director of Community Services TJ Nash, Sr. says for those feeling they need to burn holiday calories, an ugly sweater 5k.

At 7PM tonight Louisiana Public Broadcasting takes a deep dive into the world and history of Bayou State duck hunting with In the Blind.

The program interviews hunters from around the state, and was created by New Orleans based producer Emma Lou Reid who went on her first duck hunt in Caplan three years ago.

The White House is scrambling today to sure up Senate support for a new trade agreement with Mexico and Canada amid growing concerns by conservatives over the House backed bill.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Democratic House support for the bill earlier this week after a compromise was reached, but Senator John Kennedy says the new changes may have gone too far…

The US Trade Representative is briefing Senate Republicans today, hoping to allay concerns that the deal is too liberal after it won the backing of a major labor union. Kennedy says the bill is now stuffed.

The state Office of Public Health says only 25-percent of healthy adults have received a flu shot this year. Immunization medical director, Doctor Frank Welch, says that percentage needs to increase since flu activity is widespread in the state, with almost three times as much activity as the regional baseline
