Frank Wilson has been introduced as the new head football coach at McNeese. He was a recruiting coordinator under Les Miles at LSU and named as the nation’s top recruiter in 2011. Wilson left LSU to become the head coach at Texas-San Antonio, but he was fired after four seasons.

Two more LSU Tigers declared for the NFL draft today. Linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson and tight end Thaddeus Moss. That means nine LSU players are leaving early for the NFL draft. Meanwhile, Clemson running back and Jennings native Travis Etienne will return for his senior season.

The Pelicans are back at the Smoothie King Center on Saturday for a 2:30 tip-off versus the Los Angeles Clippers. New Orleans is coming off a big overtime win over Utah. The Pels have the fourth-best winning percentage in the NBA since December 23rd and Zion Williamson makes his season debut Wednesday.

LSU is at Ole Miss on Saturday night. Louisiana Tech hosts North Texas at 4 PM. Both teams are 4-and-1 in Conference USA play.

What a great win for the Pelicans last night as they ended the Utah Jazz’s 10-game winning streak with a 138 to 132 overtime victory at the Smoothie King Center. Brandon Ingram scored a career-high 49 points. It appeared Ingram won the game in regulation with a jump shot in the final second. But after a timeout, Utah inbounded the ball and a questionable call was called against the Pels. That allowed Rudy Gobert to tie the game as he split two free throws. After falling behind in O-T, the Pels took control in the extra period and won for the 10th time in there last 14 games. New Orleans hosts the Clippers tomorrow.

Louisiana Tech had an easy win over Rice 72-56 for the Bulldogs ninth consecutive home victory. ULM lost 64-63 to Texas State and Texas-Arlington beat the Ragin Cajuns 81-65.

LSU linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson has declared for the N-F-L draft. That’s now eight LSU underclassmen who made the decision to turn pro.

Saints running back Alvin Kamara has been added to the N-F-C Pro Bowl team. That’s now eleven members of the Black and Gold on the pro bowl squad.

Reports indicate four year LSU Defensive Coordinator Dave Aranda will take the head coaching job at Baylor. Aranda takes over for Matt Rhule, who moved onto the pros and poached former LSU passing game coordinator Joe Brady this week.

The New Orleans Police Department has issued an arrest warrant for former LSU star and current Cleveland Browns wide receiver, Odell Beckham Junior, for allegedly slapping a police officer on the rear end. There’s a video of the slap which happened during the postgame celebration in LSU’s locker room. Beckham has also been in the news for his money handshakes with a few players after the game. NFL analyst Mike Detillier says O-B-J has been a huge supporter of the LSU football team, but the relationship might need a time out…

Beckham’s current team, the Cleveland Browns say their wide receiver is cooperating with the authorities about the incident with the officer and LSU says they are working with the NCAA about the money handshakes.

Pelicans fans will have to wait another week before they can see rookie Zion Williamson in a game. The franchise has targeted next Wednesday as the day Williamson will make his NBA debut. He has missed the whole season after undergoing knee surgery in October. Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations David Griffin says Zion will not be on a minutes restriction when he returns, instead, his playing time will be determined by how he looks on the court…

A 12-year-old girl is dead and her mother is fighting to stay live following a trailer fire in Lake Charles.  Four people were home at the time of the blaze with three of them still hospitalized.  State Fire Marshal spokesperson Ashley Rodrigue says firefighters got the call around 10:30 Tuesday night.

Rodrigue says investigators are considering electrical malfunction as a potential cause, but they are continuing to work through the evidence before ruling anything out.

The Army Corps of Engineers has been sued by a coalition of environmental groups for allegedly failing to disclose the public health risks of a plastics plant set for construction in St. James Parish.

The Center for Biological Diversity is one of the plaintiffs and staff attorney Emily Jeffers says the Corp was blatantly disregarding the law when they issued a permit for the Formosa facility.

The Center is being joined by Healthy Gulf, Louisiana Bucket Brigade, and Rise St. James in the suit.

Jeffers says the plant would pump out greenhouse gases equivalent to three coal power plants, send poisonous waste downriver into New Orleans’ drinking water, and…

Rise St. James Founder Sharon Lavigne recently told LRN the district is already packed with 12 different industrial projects.

The suit alleges that a full accounting of the public health effects was not done because it would likely have resulted in a rejection of the site’s permit.
