The Trump Administration has published new dietary guidelines, and it recommends that Americans should eat more whole foods and protein and stay away from processed foods and added sugar. The guidelines also suggest Americans should choose whole-food sources of saturated fat—such as meat and whole fat dairy. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says 16 Louisiana Black Bears were harvested during the state’s legal black bear hunting season that took place last month. LDWF’s Large Carnivore Program Manager, John Hanks, says a bear that is well over 300 pounds supplies 200 plates of food, and he says bear fat is also useful.

If you have Progressive Auto Insurance, you could see your rates go down this year. Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple has approved a six-point-six percent average rate decrease for Progressive Security Insurance Company customers and a four-percent average decrease for Progressive Paloverde Insurance. The rate decreases will impact 470-thousand policyholders.

State Police is investigating a fatal shooting in Ville Platte involving an Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s deputy. According to the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office the incident stemmed from a tip received about illegal drug transactions. A person was shot and died at a local hospital. No deputies were injured during the incident.

Work is underway to replace the L-A 544 bridge also known as Tech Drive over I-20 in Ruston. State transportation officials say the bridge was originally built in 1963 and has outlived its usefulness. DOTD spokesperson Erin Buchanan says the overpass replacement is not the only component of this four-year, 39-million-dollar project.

There will be two roundabouts north of I-20 and one south of I-20, and they will replace the traffic lights that are currently at those intersections.

Twenty-six tags were issued for the lottery hunt. Hanks says it’s the second straight year Louisiana had a black bear hunting season after not having one for 35 years because the animal was listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act.

Governor Jeff Landry tells Fox News Radio he will travel to Greenland in a couple of months as part of his new part-time job as special envoy to Greenland. Landry says he wants to talk with the residents of the arctic island about the benefits of having a closer relationship with the United States…

President Trump has said Greenland is important to the United States for national security purposes. But Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark.

Another auto insurance company is lowering its rates. Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple says he’s approved Progressive Security Insurance Company’s request for a 6.6 percent average rate decrease on over 270-thousand private passenger auto insurance policyholders. Progressive Paloverde Insurance Company will also lower its rates by an average of four percent. Temple says Progressive told regulators the rate reductions are primarily driven by a reduction in frequency of claims.

New Orleans is now back in the running to host the 2031 Super Bowl. So what are the city’s chances of landing the game that year?

LSU football picked up its ninth commitment in the transfer portal from redshirt sophomore receiver Eugene “Tre” Wilson of Florida. Wilson was rated as the No. 9 wide receiver in the portal. Wilson had visited LSU for multiple days earlier this week and attended the LSU men’s basketball game against South Carolina last night with head coach Lane Kiffin and linebacker Whit Weeks.

After re-signing with Washington on January 2nd, sophomore quarterback Demond Williams Jr. announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal on Tuesday evening. But he may not be able to leave. According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Washington is not obligated or required to turn in Williams’ transfer portal papers, which could end up keeping him with the Huskies.

LSU is reportedly one of the schools interested in Williams.

After taking a multiple-day trip to LSU, Arizona State redshirt sophomore transfer quarterback Sam Leavitt, is visiting Tennessee today and tomorrow. Leavitt will arrive in Knoxville tonight.

The Saints ranked 30th in total defense in 2024 but finished 9th in the league in total defense in 2025, allowing opponents to gain only 300 yards a game. Defensive end Chase Young credits the culture that’s been created by the new coaching staff.

Young had a career-high 10 sacks with New Orleans this season, which was tied for 15th in the NFL.

LSU sophomore transfer quarterback Michael Van Buren announced his commitment to South Florida today. Van Buren started the last four games for the Tigers.

The twelfth-ranked LSU women’s basketball team looks to win its first SEC game of the season against Georgia on Thursday. Senior guard Flau’jae Johnson rolled her ankle against Vanderbilt, but is questionable to play. LSU is looking to avoid its first 0-3 start in SEC play since 1995. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.

Following a meeting involving Governor Landry, Saints Owner Gayle Benson and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, New Orleans is once again back in the running to bid on the 2031 Super Bowl. NOLA-dot-com columnist Jeff Duncan says like all other candidates, the city will have to make a strong pitch to the NFL – and he says the NFL is seeking high-end hospitality.

Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy disagrees with the C-D-C’s decision to reduce the number of vaccines children should receive. The new vaccine schedule calls for all children to get vaccines for 11 diseases, compared with the 18 that was previously on the schedule. Cassidy says the vaccines removed from the schedule are proven to be safe and often can make the difference between life and death…

A team of doctors at the LSU Vet school saved the life of a military working dog that was suffering Addison’s Disease. Addison’s Disease is the result of a severe lack of cortisol and a hormone that controls blood volume and electrolyte concentrations — basically what happens when your body doesn’t have any steroids….

That is Doctor Patty Lathan with the LSU Vet school, who says the dog, an eight-year-old Belgian Malinois is expected to make a full recovery.

In Louisiana, you would think restaurants would serve domestic shrimp, but an audit of 24 restaurants on the Westbank of New Orleans found eight of them do not comply with a state law that requires disclosure of serving imported shrimp. SeaD Consulting Founder David William says the price of local shrimp going up, restaurants which falsely claim that their shrimp is from local waters are costing both diners and local shrimpers a lot of money.

Williams believes in the year since the law went into effect, enforcement has not been stringent enough.

LSU and head coach Lane Kiffin are having a successful Tuesday when it comes to the transfer portal. The Tigers’ first commitment came from junior safety Ty Benefield out of Boise State, who is rated as the No. 2 safety in the transfer portal. This season, Benefield had 105 total tackles, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and two interceptions for the Broncos.

LSU also landed redshirt sophomore defensive tackle Stephiylan (STEPH-eye-lin) Green out of Clemson. Green is rated as the No. 6 defensive lineman in the transfer portal. Green had 25 tackles, two-and-a-half sacks and a pass breakup with the Tigers this season.

LSU men’s basketball looks to bounce back from its first conference loss to Texas A&M tonight as the Tigers host South Carolina tonight at 7 p.m. LSU will be without senior point guard DJ Thomas for the second straight season.

McNeese State basketball defeated Stephen F. Austin 66-64 last night to improve to 12-and-3 and 5-and-1 in Southland play. Freshman guard Larry Johnson led the Cowboys in scoring with 18 points.

The Saints may not have made the playoffs this season, but the team left its fan base with plenty of optimism and hope for next year after finishing 4-and-1 in its last five games. Receiver Chris Olave had to miss the final game of the season against the Falcons after doctors found a blood clot in his lung. Olave says he thought he had a bruised rib after feeling pain near his lung following the game against the Titans.

Olave says he is expected to make a full recovery and he should be able to participate in offseason training beginning in April.

UL-Lafayette redshirt sophomore quarterback Lunch Winfield announced on social media that he will return to the Cajuns in 2026. Winfield passed for 1,555 yards with 11 touchdowns while also rushing for 667 yards and nine touchdowns.

Nicholls basketball defeated Northwestern State 74-72 last night to stay undefeated in Southland play. Senior guard Jaylen Searles led the Colonels in scoring with 18 points.
