A Baton Rouge immigration lawyer is reminding you of your rights should you be approached by a Border Patrol officer during the immigration crackdown operation that will be getting underway soon in and around New Orleans. David Rozas says the right to remain silent extends to everyone in the country, whether they’re citizens or immigrants.

Rozas says if you do exercise your right to remain silent, you may still be detained, but the grounds for the federal agents to detain you have been playing out in the federal courts.

Lafayette Police have arrested two men from Vermilion Parish for beating up a man near a major intersection. The case received widespread attention in Acadiana as the victim, Dustyn Cope, said the case was racially motivated. But Sergeant Robin Green says the exact motive at this time, however, remains unclear.

Lafayette Police arrest two Vermilion Parish men for allegedly assaulting a man who was walking home from a festival last month. Tristan Frederick and Tynes Chaney, who are both 23, are charged with second-degree battery in the October 12th attack on Dustyn Cope. Sergeant Robin Green says important evidence led investigators to the two men.

Cope, who is half Filipino, told KATC-TV that he believes the attack was racially motivated, but Green says they found no evidence of that.

The LSU Board of Supervisors has called for a special meeting tomorrow to discuss the lawsuit filed by Brian Kelly against LSU as the former Tigers football coach is seeking his entire 54-million-dollar buyout. Piper Hutchinson with the Louisiana Illuminator says most of the meeting will take place behind closed doors

Police in Abbeville are looking for several people who rode a horse into Walmart store on Saturday. Police Chief Mike Hardy believes the group of horse riders were participating in a nearby trail ride when they decided to trot their horses into the Walmart. Walmart is not happy and they want police to charge these individuals with a crime.

Ole Miss’s Lane Kiffin is LSU and Florida’s top targets in their head coaching searches. Rebels fans are on edge, but Kiffin says being pursued by other programs speaks volumes for what’s happening at Ole Miss.

Southeastern Louisiana football returns back to Hammond as the Lions face Nicholls State tonight at 6 p.m. in the 36^th edition of the River Bell Classic. It’s a must-win game for the Lions as they look to get into the 24-team FCS Playoffs.

Last night, Louisiana Tech men’s basketball dropped to 2-and-2 on the season after losing at Indiana State by a score of 60-51.

UL-Lafayette faces Arkansas State tonight, as the Cajuns look to win their third straight game. The Cajuns are 1-and-4 on the road this season, and head coach Michael Desormeaux (DEZ-er-moe) says his team has to find a way to win on the road as they are just two wins away from becoming bowl eligible.

The second round of the Louisiana High School football playoffs begins tomorrow night. Today, we are looking at the Select matchups. In Division Four, Spencer Verrett with the LHSAA network, says two historically storied programs meet in Monroe as Southern Lab visits Ouachita Christian, and he says this game could go either way.

Northwestern State will host Stephen F. Austin in its season finale tonight at 6:30 p.m. as the Demons look to break their 10-game losing streak.

LSU interim head football coach Frank Wilson told the media on the SEC coaches’ weekly media teleconference that quarterback Garrett Nussmeier is doubtful for the Tigers’ last game in Tiger Stadium this season against Western Kentucky.

Falcons starting quarterback Michael Penix Jr. suffered a season-ending knee injury in last week’s loss to the Carolina Panthers. In order to stop veteran backup quarterback Kirk Cousins this Sunday, Saints head coach Kellen Moore says the team will have to rely on a collective defensive performance.

New Orleans released wide receiver Brandin Cooks today. After not finding a trade partner at the trade deadline, Cooks will become a free agent. Cooks was originally drafted by the Saints in 2014 until he was traded to New England in 2017.

Last night, the LSU men’s basketball team remained undefeated to improve to 4-and-0 after defeating Alcorn State by a score of 107-81.

There are reports Ole Miss officials are putting pressure on head football coach Lane Kiffin to decide on his future…is he staying in Oxford or is leaving to take the head coaching job at LSU or Florida. There are also reports that say Ole Miss does not want Kiffin to coach the Rebels in the playoffs. So today, he was asked will he coach in next Friday’s Egg Bowl against Mississippi State…

Lincoln Parish is mourning the death of Ruston Fire Department Chief Chris Womack, who died at the age of 54 after a brief battle with cancer.  Ruston Mayor Ronny Walker appointed Womack as fire chief in 2015 and says his leadership of that department is unparalleled…

Three former employees at a Lake Charles Christian school are arrested for allegedly covering up sexual assaults at the school. Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Stitch Guillory says there was a culture on the Hamilton Christian football team in which older players would haze the younger players, and it crossed the line into sexual assault. He says Principal Morgan Daugherty and Assistant Coach Dominique Washington knew about the incidents and, as school personnel, were required to report them to law enforcement.

Also, a school cook, Stacy Bargeman, was arrested for allegedly sending threatening messages about the investigation.

Louisiana is approved for almost 1.36-billion dollars in federal funding to expand broadband internet access. Veneeth Iyengar, the executive director of Connect-L-A, says it’s a major milestone for the state’s GUMBO 2.0 program.

Around 250 federal border agents are set to descend on New Orleans in the coming weeks for a two-month immigration crackdown dubbed “Swamp Sweep.”  NOPD Superintendent. Anne Kirkpatrick said yesterday she expects a briefing on the deployment soon.

While the debate over extending Affordable Care Act subsidies continues on Capitol Hill. Senator Bill Cassidy says he has a better idea – give that subsidy directly to the American people, instead of the insurance companies. The Republican Senator who’s a physician, says under his plan, the people would be in full control of their health care dollars.
