The Lafayette Parish Coroner’s office says a two-year-old boy found in a car on Sunday died from heatstroke. The child’s mother’s 27-year-old, Natalie Broussard, has been charged with negligent homicide.

Many high schools object to that number and point to the higher capacity that’s allowed inside restaurants and casinos. The Main Street Recovery Program aimed to assist Louisiana small businesses with pandemic recovery is no longer accepting applications. State Treasurer John Schroder says the $275-million fund that the legislature set aside is almost allocated.

The high school football season starts tomorrow, but many schools are upset the governor’s current coronavirus order limits occupancy at outdoor athletic events at 25-percent. The House Education and Health and Welfare Committees will hold a joint meeting on this topic today. Schools argue it doesn’t make sense to cap the capacity at 25-percent when restaurants and casinos are allowed to have a higher maximum capacity. LSU’s Myles Brennan broke school records on Saturday by completing 27 passes on 46 attempts for 346 yards. Those are all record hights for first-time LSU starting quarterbacks. LSU cornerback Derek Stingley is expected to play this Saturday against Vanderbilt after missing the season opener because of an illness.

The Pelcians have reportedly reached out to Doc Rivers about their head coaching vacancy. Rivers was fired by the Clippers after failing to get Los Angeles to at least the Western Conference Finals.

The Saints made Alvin Kamara one of the highest-paid running backs in the league just before the season started and so far that investment is paying off. Through three games, Kamara is averaging nearly five yards a carry and has 27 receptions with six total touchdowns. Coach Sean Payton highlighted his 52 yard TD catch in Sunday night’s loss…

Several schools in Lake Charles have made the decision not to play varsity high school football this season, because of Hurricane Laura. Barbe, Sam Houston, LaGrange and Washington-Marion have opted out.

Neville is now playing Leesville in Friday’s season opener. The Tigers were scheduled to play Ouachita Parish, but Ouachita has several positive COVID cases.

Former Louisiana Governor Mike Foster has entered hospice care. The state’s 53rd governor is 90-years-old. He served as the state’s governor from 1996 to 2004. The former state senator from Franklin was easily elected to a second term. Foster supported businesses and expanded TOPS during his time in office.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto says his deputies fatally shot a man who killed his girlfriend as deputies watched. Lopinto says his deputies responded to a call of a male beating up a female. When they got to the scene, the two were arguing in the street and the man shot the woman in the neck and that’s when deputies returned fire…

The 250 dollar Frontline Worker Rebate Program has processed about 65 percent of the over 240,000 applications received. Louisiana Revenue Secretary Kimberly Robinson says they’re confident they will give away all of the money by the October 31st application deadline.

LSU Football Coach Ed Orgeron admits they should have had a better plan in place on both sides of the ball this past Saturday when they lost to previously unranked Mississippi State 44-34. LSU gave up 623 passing yards and the Tigers offense allowed seven sacks. Coach Ed Orgeron says he looks forward to getting back on track this Saturday at Vanderbilt

Orgeron expects All-American cornerback Derek Stingley to play on Saturday against Vanderbilt. He was unavailable for Saturday’s game as he was hospitalized the night before because of a reported allergic reaction.

The Saints are 1-and-2 but at least running back Alvin Kamara is off to a great start after a down year last season. Through three games this season, he has 153 rushing yards on nearly five yards a carry and 285 yards through the air with six total touchdowns. Kamara also had an impressive 52-yard touchdown catch in Sunday night’s loss to Green Bay, where he broke five different tackles. The Louisiana Attorney General’s Office reports a 200 percent increase in online sexual predator cases during the pandemic. Louisiana Internet Crimes against Children Commander Corey Bourgeois says the increase appears to be linked to the fact kids are spending more time online.

UL Lafayette is participating in a NASA experiment to see if vegetables can be grown in space to sustain astronauts during long missions. UL Lafayette vegetable researcher Dr. Karl Hasenstein says the research has been in the works for three years, but needs to be tested in space to advance cosmic exploration.

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s office has charged 27-year-old Natalie Broussard with negligent homicide after she allegedly left a two-year-old in a vehicle on Sunday afternoon.
