They are celebrating in Stonewall as North DeSoto won its second state championship in baseball on Saturday with a seven to four win over top-seeded Brusly. Sophomore Preston Eaves got the win as he threw four innings and survived a late rally by the Panthers in the seventh inning…

UNO rallied twice on Saturday to beat Northwestern State and win the Hammond bracket of the Southland Conference Tournament. The Privateers advance to play Houston Christian. Regular season champion Southeastern Louisiana will have to hope for an at-large bid.

Seven of the ten inmates who escaped from the Orleans Parish jail on Friday remain on the loose. Governor Jeff Landry is not happy about what he says is the largest jail break in the state’s history. Landry says there is no excuse for what happened…

Landry is also calling for an audit of the Orleans Parish Jail, which the Louisiana Department of Corrections will conduct.

A New Orleans judge has ruled that Louisiana’s Attorney General Liz Murrill cannot assist the Orleans District Attorney as that office seeks to carry out the death sentence for former New Orleans police officer Antoinette Frank…

Criminal District Judge Kimya Holmes said in her ruling that no provision in the law and Louisiana Constitution allows for the A-G’s participation. Frank is still fighting her conviction and the next hearing in her post-conviction process is in December.

As the search continues for seven of the ten inmates who escaped from the Orleans Parish jail on Friday, Governor Jeff Landry has ordered an audit on the jail that will be conducted by the Louisiana Department of Corrections. Landry also wants the state’s Inspector General to get an inventory of the inmates in the Orleans Parish jail who have been convicted of crimes, but are still awaiting sentencing. He says one of the escapees has been awaiting sentencing for eight months…

Orleans Sheriff Susan Hutson says defective locks, a breached wall, and possible assistance from the inside led to what is believed to be the largest jail break in the state’s history.

Not the result everyone in West Baton Rouge Parish wanted last night, but 18-year-old John Foster of Addis  won the hearts of everyone in Louisiana and across the country. Foster made it all the way to the final two of American Idol, before finishing second behind Jamal Roberts of Mississippi. There was a watch party at the Walk-On’s in Brusly, and people there said no matter the final outcome, Foster is a winner in their books.

A New Orleans Judge has ruled that Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill and the private attorneys her office has hired can not assist the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s office in an effort to carry out the death sentence against former New Orleans Police officer Antoinette Frank, who killed her partner and two restaurant owners in a robbery in 1995. Murrill disagrees with Judge Kimya Holmes’ judgement that this is neither a criminal nor a civil proceeding…

The Louisiana Department of Education has announced its students of the year for 2025, Mary Thornton from Caddo Parish, Rylann Viator from Erath Middle School, and Neal Tandon from Haynes Academy in Jefferson Parish.

Attorney General Liz Murrill is planning to appeal a decision by a New Orleans judge that effectively throws her off the Antoinette Frank case. She’s the former New Orleans police officer who was sentenced to death for killing her partner and two restaurant owners in a robbery in 1995. Frank is seeking post-conviction relief as she fights her death sentence. Murrill disagrees with Judge Kimya Holmes’ ruling that says her office cannot assist the district attorney’s office in this case.

Foster is from Addis and at a watch party in Brusly, the crowd gathered there felt Foster won when he sang his own song “Tell That Angel I Love Her” in memory of his friends Maggie Dunn and Caroline Gill, who were killed in a crash New Year’s Eve 2022. People at the watch party say Foster hit it out of the park…

The top-ranked LSU baseball team got back in the win column last night with an eight-to-one win over South Carolina. Junior first baseman Jared Jones hit two home runs, and Ethan Frey also homered. Kade Anderson struck out nine and allowed one earned run for his seventh win of the year.

Big upset in the NCAA Softball Tournament last night as Southeastern Louisiana scored four unanswered runs to beat LSU in the opening round of the Baton Rouge Regional. The win for Southeastern was just the second ever-for the Lady Lions in 26 meetings versus the Tigers and their first win since 2007.

LSU now has to win four straight games to win the Baton Rouge Regional. They will play the loser of today’s winner’s bracket game between Nebraska and Southeastern, which will begin at noon.

In the Hammond bracket of the Southland Conference Tournament, eighth-seeded UNO is 2-and-0 after beating Northwestern State three to two. Southeastern Louisiana avoided elimination by eliminating McNeese seven to four.

Southeastern will play Northwestern State at 1 PM today in a loser’s bracket game. The winner plays UNO and will need to beat the Privateers to advance to the Southland Tournament Championship series.

At the LHSAA state baseball tournament…Catholic High of Baton Rouge won its second consecutive state title with an eight-to-one win over Brother Martin.

Every other series will be decided today. Sam Houston came from behind to beat Live Oak four to three. ED White walked off Teurlings Catholic four to three. Brusly scored 14 runs in the second inning and shut out North DeSoto 15-0.

The other two championship games are Sterlington and Erath, which has been a very entertaining series, with Erath winning yesterday seven to six and Catholic High of New Iberia versus University High.

Number one ranked LSU baseball will look to bounce back tonight after blowing a late lead and losing to South Carolina six to five last night. The Tigers will send Kade Anderson to the mound tonight. Anderson is second in the nation in strikeouts with 124. South Carolina will send sophomore lefty Jake McCoy to the mound. He throws in the mid-90s, but has an ERA of 6.71.

Logan Forstyhe struck out a career-high 10 hitters for his first win of the season as Louisiana Tech topped New Mexico State 12-7. The Bulldogs will look for their fourth victory in a row at 6 PM.

ULM got a gem from Daniel Gonzalez last night as the Warhawks shutout South Alabama four to nothing. Game two is at 6 PM.

The Cajuns have lost four straight Sun Belt games and tonight they host Arkansas State again after losing to them three to nothing.

At the state baseball tournament in Sulphur….Erath and Catholic High of New Iberia have forced a third and deciding game in their championship series on the Division Three level. The Bobcats won a back and forth game between Sterlington, beating the Panthers seven to six. Brennan Broussard’s two-run triple in the sixth inning was the game winning hit.

And Catholic High of New Iberia defeated University High eight to one and the Panthers and Cubs will play for the Division three select state championship tomorrow at 11 AM.

Brusly also forced a third and deciding game by scoring 14 runs in the second inning for a 15 to nothing win over North Desoto in three runs. All 14 runs came after two outs.  Lead off hitter Aidan Washington had three hits and drove in three runs.

Tonight…Catholic High of Baton Rouge will try to win its second consecutive title as it battles Brother Martin at 5:30. Also at 5:30 .Live Oak looks for its first ever state championship when it faces Sam Houston.

Frustrating loss for the top-ranked LSU Tigers as they could not hold on to a two-run lead in the eighth inning and lost to South Carolina six to five. Zac Cowan gave up a game-tying home run in the ninth inning and threw a wild pitch to allow the winning run to score. The Tigers will try to even up the series tonight with left-hander Kade Anderson getting the start.

ULM sophomore pitcher Daniel Gonzalez threw eight shutout innings as the Warhawks blanked South Alabama four to nothing to end a ten-game losing streak. Isaiah Walker hit a three-run homer.

The Ragin Cajuns were held to four hits in a three-to-nothing loss to Arkansas State.

Louisiana Tech defeated New Mexico State 12 to 7, winning its 30th game of the year. Tech Coach Lane Burroughs has won 30 games seven times in his eight seasons as the Bulldogs’ coach.

The eighth-seeded Privateers upset top-seeded Southeastern Louisiana ten to six. The Lions and Cowboys will face off in an elimination game at 1 PM.

At the state baseball tournament in Hammond, Teurlings Catholic, North DeSoto, Live Oak and Catholic High of Baton Rouge can all win state championships today. Teurlings and Catholic are trying to win back-to-back titles, while North Desoto is looking for its first title since 2012. Live Oak can win its first state title if they beat Sam Houston again tonight.

The Baton Rouge Regional in the NCAA Softball Tournament begins today at Tiger Park. Nebraska will face Big East Tournament Champions, UCONN at 2 PM. At 4:30 PM, LSU will face Southland Conference Tournament Champions, Southeastern Louisiana. LSU has won 19 in a row over the Lions, but has had to walk off SLU in the last two meetings.

Tough loss for the top-ranked LSU baseball team last night as the Tigers fell to South Carolina six to five. LSU led 5-3 in the eighth inning and Zac Cowan could not preserve the lead, giving up three runs. The winning run scored on a wild pitch as LSU falls to 17-11 in the SEC, while Paul Mainieri’s Gamecocks improve to 6-22.

Northwestern State walked off McNeese seven to six in the Hammond Bracket of the Southland Tournament. Samuel Stevenson hit a two-run single with the bases loaded for the game winner. The Demons advance to the winner’s bracket to play UNO, who upset Southeastern Louisiana four to nothing.

ULM snapped its ten-game losing streak with a four-to-nothing win over South Alabama, while Arkansas State blanked the Ragin Cajuns three to nothing.

Louisiana Tech won its third in a row last night as the Bulldogs outscored New Mexico State 12 to 7. Trey Hawsey drove in three runs and Luke Nichols pitched three shutout innings out of the bullpen for his second save.

University High was also a walk-off winner yesterday and if the Cubs beat Catholic New Iberia today at 11 AM they will repeat as Division three select state champions.

Live Oak is one win away from its first state championship in baseball after beating Sam Houston three to one yesterday. Ragin Cajuns signee Sawyer Pruitt struck out eleven in six innings.

Catholic High of Baton Rouge, Teurlings Catholic, and North Desoto were also winners yesterday. The Griffens scored eight runs in the fourth inning to beat Brusly eight to two. Bryant Lacour hit a grand slam in that massive inning. And North Desoto is one way away from its first state championship in since 2012.
