The LSU baseball team welcomes top-ranked Vanderbilt to Alex Box Stadium tonight for the start of a three-game series. The Commodores are 20-and-3 and have two outstanding starting pitchers. Tonight, LSU will see Kumar Rocker who is 6-and-0 with a 0.73 ERA. Rocker has also struck out 53 in 37 innings. LSU will counter with Landon Marceaux, who is 2-and-2 with a 0.26 ERA. He has 44 strikeouts in 35 innings. First pitch is at 6:30.

In other action, 17th ranked Louisiana Tech hosts UAB. Left-hander Jonathan Fincher gets the start for the Bulldogs, he’s 4-and-0 with a 1.69 ERA. The Blazers are 9-and-13 on the season.

ULM hosts the Cajuns for a three-game series starting tonight. The Warhawks have lost three in a row.

Pfizer says its COVID vaccine protects children as young as 12-years-old from the coronavirus. LSU Health Shreveport pediatric infectious disease specialist Doctor John Vanchiere says the drug manufacturer came to this conclusion based on a promising study of 22-hundred U-S volunteers between the ages of 12-and-15…

Vanchiere says in addition to building antibodies the vaccine also proved to be protective against disease.

Vanchiere says while children are not as susceptible to COVID as adults, this is a huge step towards ending the pandemic…

Vanchiere says Pfizer reportedly plans to request an amendment to its current FDA emergency use authorization to include ages 12 to 15 in time for use next fall. He says clinical trials for ages 5 to 11 will begin in May.

Louisiana is expecting 300-thousand COVID vaccine doses next week, which almost doubles the number of doses the state is currently receiving.  Governor John Bel Edwards says the vaccine ramp-up has arrived and encourages everyone 16 and older to get the vaccine…

To help connect Louisianans to this deluge of vaccines next week the state will establish a vaccine hotline. Edwards calls it a one-stop shop for anyone seeking a vaccine appointment.

Edwards says one of the best parts about the vaccine hotline is that it won’t cost the state any extra money.

State Police is investigating the death of a man who died while in the custody of Bossier City Police officers. A preliminary investigation has found that B-C-P-D officers arrived at a business after receiving a call about a stolen car and took a male suspect into custody. Authorities say shortly after the arrest, police called EMS because the man became unconscious. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

LSU Football Coach Ed Orgeron says he does not remember speaking to 74-year-old Gloria Scott, a Superdome security guard who told state legislators that former Tigers running back Derius Guice sexually harassed her in 2017 while on the job. Scott told legislators she spoke to Orgeron and asked him to punish Guice, but Orgeron told Husch Blackwell he never spoke with the complainant.

The Better Business Bureau is urging residents not to buy fake COVID-19 vaccination cards. That’s right websites are popping up for those people who do not want to get vaccinated, but want proof they got the shot if restrictions are put in place for those who did not get the vaccine. Chris Babin with the Better Business Bureau of Acadiana says these sites are asking for personal and financial information as well as payment to purchase a fake vaccination card…

The NFL owners have approved a 17-game regular season in 2021. To compensate the NFL reduces the number of preseason games from four to three. The regular season will continue to feature one bye week and adding a regular season means the Super Bowl will be pushed back one week. The 17-game schedule also means the Saints will play the Titans this season.

Every NFL franchise will have a representative on LSU’s campus today for Pro Day as nine former Tiger football players will run the 40 and go through several other drills and workouts for scouts and player personnel officials.
