In the New Orleans Saints’ 23-3 loss to the Buccaneers, quarterback Spencer Rattler was benched after turning the ball over two times. Rookie Tyler Shough came into the game and threw for 128 yards with an interception. Head coach Kellen Moore says the team has yet to name a starter for this week’s game against the Rams.

The Pelicans return to action tonight as New Orleans looks to get their first win of the season as they host the winless Boston Celtics at 7 p.m. Zion Williamson is questionable with a left foot bone contusion.

Grambling State quarterback C’Zavian Teasett is responsive and in good spirits after sustaining a scary injury during the fourth quarter of Saturday’s Las Vegas HBCU Classic 26-24 win against Jackson State. He continues to be evaluated by medical personnel.

20th-ranked LSU is a slight underdog Saturday night as they host third-ranked Texas A&M. The Aggies are undefeated, and they are looking for their first win in Tiger Stadium since 1994. Kick off is at 6:49 p.m., and there’s a decent chance for rain during the game. Head coach Brian Kelly says they’ve prepared for the possibility of wet weather.

LSU junior linebacker Whit Weeks has officially been ruled out with an ankle injury, and it will be the second straight game he misses.

UL-Lafayette is on the road this week as they face Troy on Saturday at 6 p.m. The Cajuns are looking to get back into the win column for the first time since week five.

ULM looks to bounce back this week after a blowout loss to Troy at home last weekend as the Warhawks travel to Hattiesburg on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. to take on Southern Mississippi.

With Saints running back Kendre Miller out for the season, New Orleans is relying on their rookie sixth-round draft pick, Devin Neal, to give the team more production moving forward. Head coach Kellen Moore says Neal is going to get more touches this week.

After a much-needed win last week, McNeese is looking to stay hot as the Cowboys travel to Thibodaux to face a struggling 1-and-6 Nicholls team. Kickoff at John L. Guidry Stadium is at 3 p.m.

Southeastern Louisiana is looking to keep its 3-game-winning streak going on Saturday when they travel to Houston to take on Houston Christian at 2 p.m.

Southern’s Fred McNair will make his debut as interim head coach on Saturday as the Jaguars host Florida A&M University at 4 p.m.

After getting a close win over Arkansas Pine Bluff, Grambling State takes on Jackson State in the Las Vegas HBCU Classic on Saturday at 5 p.m. central time.

Northwestern State is in Beaumont to take on Lamar on Saturday at 2 p.m.

With two losses on the season already, LSU’s margin for error is now zero. Moving forward, Breaux says the Tigers have the ability to change the trajectory of the season around with a win against No. 3 Texas A&M on Saturday.

The Pelicans started their season off on the wrong foot after being defeated by the Grizzlies on Wednesday by a score of 128-122. New Orleans led by 11 at the half, but Memphis outscored the Pelicans 41-22 in a disastrous third quarter to lead them to an opening night win. Zion Williamson led scoring for the Pelicans with 27 points, and he added 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. New Orleans will return home to face the San Antonio Spurs on Friday.

A game played in New Orleans is part of the FBI’s evidence that resulted in the arrest of an NBA player for illegal sports betting. Jeff Palermo has the story…

Willie Green said center Yves (EEV) Missi is day-to-day and will be listed as questionable after injuring his ankle on Wednesday.

UL-Lafayette sophomore wide receiver Shelton Sampson Jr. will make his return against Troy for the Cajuns this weekend after missing extended time from a hamstring injury.

The Pelicans begin their season tonight as New Orleans travels to Memphis to face the Grizzlies. The Pelicans have ten new players on this year’s roster. Veteran guard Jordan Poole says the preseason games helped the team get more into a rhythm.

Tipoff in Memphis is at 7 p.m.

Louisiana Tech is now 4-3 overall and 2-2 in Conference USA after last night’s 28-27 overtime loss to Western Kentucky. Tech has lost two in a row, but defensive back Cedric Woods from Monroe says the adversity they are facing will only make them stronger…

Southern named former Alcorn State head coach and current co-offensive coordinator Fred McNair as the interim head coach. McNair, who’s the older brother of the late NFL quarterback Steve McNair, says he’s looking forward to helping turn things around for the rest of the season.

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, New England Patriots linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson and Cleveland Browns safety Grant Delpit were named the AFC Offensive, Defensive and Special teams Players of the Week after their week 7 performances. It’s the first time in NFL history that all three conference players of the week were college teammates. Chase, Chaisson and Delpit were all key contributors to LSU’s 2019 national championship team.

LSU’s offensive line has struggled to be dominant in the trenches and win the line of scrimmage. After the 31-24 loss to Vanderbilt, Head Coach Brian Kelly says that the entire unit needs to play with more physicality moving forward, especially with number-three Texas A&M coming to Baton Rouge this weekend.

Louisiana Tech hosts Western Kentucky in a pivotal matchup tonight at 6:30 p.m. Head coach Sonny Cumbie is looking forward to playing in front of the home crowd.

CUT 17 (15): “the conference.”

Southern has fired head coach Terrance Graves after leading the team to a 1-6 record to start the season. Graves finishes with a 9-11 record in his two years with the program. The Jaguars have named former Alcorn State head coach and current co-offensive coordinator Fred McNair as the interim head coach. In McNair’s eight years with the Braves, he had a 48-33 record. McNair’s debut as the interim head coach will be on Saturday in Baton Rouge at 4 p.m. against Florida A&M University.

Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler turned it over four times in Sunday’s 26-14 loss to the Bears. Head coach Kellen Moore says despite that poor performance, Rattler will remain as the starting quarterback while backup Tyler Shough continues to develop.

The Saints return to New Orleans to host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday at 3:05 p.m.

New Orleans will be without center Eric McCoy and running back Kendre Miller for the rest of the year after both suffered season-ending injuries on Sunday. McCoy tore has a torn biceps and Miller tore his ACL. Head coach Kellen Moore says the team will have to find a way to be productive without them.

The LSU Tigers are 5-2 following a loss to Vanderbilt on Saturday.  The fan base has been very critical of head coach Brian Kelly following the season. Going into the season, the Tigers were considered a national championship contender, but another loss and the Tigers will likely miss out on the college football playoff. Kelly says he understands everyone’s frustration.

Kelly announced that starting left tackle will not play against Texas A&M this week after suffering an ankle injury in Saturday’s game at Vanderbilt.

UL-Lafayette’s basketball team was picked to finish ninth out of fourteen teams in the Sun Belt Conference. Quannas (KWAH-nus) White takes over for the Cajuns after spending eight years at Houston as an assistant under Kelvin Sampson. Last year, the Cajuns finished eleventh in conference play after going 8-10.

McNeese sophomore quarterback Jake Strong has been named this week’s Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week after his productive outing in the 27-0 win over Houston Christian. Strong tied a McNeese single-game record for most rushing touchdowns scored by a quarterback with three. Strong rushed for a career-high 108 yards on 16 carries. Strong also completed 14-of-22 passes for 133 yards and an interception.

The Southeastern football team moved up three spots to No. 19 in the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll after defeating Northwestern State 49-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Lions are still right outside of the Stats Perform FCS Top 25, but are receiving votes.

LSU looks to keep its SEC Title hopes going as the Tigers travel to Nashville to face No. 17 Vanderbilt. Head coach Brian Kelly says his team showed positive signs against South Carolina and must carry their momentum into Saturday.

Kickoff at FirstBank Stadium in Nashville is at 11 a.m.

Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen will face the Saints for the first time since being fired by the team in November last year. Allen says that he has lots of great memories in New Orleans, but winning on Sunday remains the main focus.

Kickoff on Sunday at Soldier Field is at noon.

With an early Sun Belt conference loss, ULM will most likely have to win out if they want to contend for the Sun Belt Championship. Head coach Bryant Vincent says each game is a must win moving forward.

The Warhawks will host Troy on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Southeastern will host Northwestern State on Saturday at 4 p.m.  as its homecoming for the Lions. Southeastern is looking to stay hot and the Demons are looking for their first win since week one.

UL-Lafayette will look to get back on track for its homecoming game as the Cajuns take on Southern Mississippi in Lafayette on Saturday at 4 p.m.

After a loss to Southeastern, McNeese is looking for a happy homecoming as the Cowboys host Houston Christian on Saturday at 6 p.m.

LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier showed improvement in throwing the ball in the Tigers’ 20-10 win over South Carolina. Nussmeier said the first few games of the season were tough due to his ab injury, but he says he’s gaining more confidence heading into this week’s game with Vanderbilt.

Head coach Brian Kelly gave an update on several players’ availability ahead of the Tigers matchup with Vanderbilt. Wide receiver Aaron Anderson and offensive lineman Paul Mubenga are probable. Junior linebacker Whit Weeks and senior defensive end Jimari Butler are game time decisions and are questionable with ankle injuries. Senior Defensive tackle Bernard Gooden is doubtful with a bruised collarbone.

Sunday’s matchup between the Saints and Bears will be the first time Dennis Allen faces the Saints since being fired as the team’s head coach in November of last year. Allen’s defense in Chicago has forced 11 turnovers in the last three games, and quarterback Spencer Rattler says Allen poses many challenges as the Bears’ defensive coordinator.

Kickoff at Soldier Field in Chicago Sunday is noon.

Earlier this week, the New Orleans Pelicans announced that center Kevon Looney has been diagnosed with a proximal tibiofibular ligament sprain in his left knee and he will be re-evaluated in 2-3 weeks. The Pelicans are now down to Yves Missi, Karlo Matkovic and Hunter Dickinson at the center position.

The Pelicans are in Orlando tonight to take on the Magic in their final preseason game at 6 p.m. before starting the regular season next Wednesday.

Junior wide receiver Aaron Anderson missed the South Carolina game due to a nagging knee injury, but head coach Brian Kelly says he expects Anderson to be back for this week’s game at No. 17 Vanderbilt after progressing well in practice earlier this week.

LSU sophomore tight end Trey’Dez Green was named the John Mackey Player of the Week, an award that goes to the top tight end in the nation each week after his dominant performance in the 20-10 win over South Carolina. Green had eight catches for 119 yards with a touchdown. Green is the first tight end to earn the honor since Mason Taylor in week three of the 2024 season.

Vanderbilt’s number-7 scoring offense will be tested against LSU on Saturday, as the Tigers boast the number-5 scoring defense, allowing less than 12 points per game. Vanderbilt head coach Clark Lea says the Commodores’ offensive success will come down to execution and patience.

Grambling is now 3-and-3 after a heartbreaking 21-20 loss to Texas Southern. The Tigers had multiple crucial turnovers, including a fumble in the fourth quarter that allowed Texas Southern to run the clock out. Head coach Mickey Joseph says his young team has to clean up their play.

LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier had both ups and downs in the 20-10 win over South Carolina. Nussmeier threw the ball better against the Gamecocks, but still made some poor decisions as he threw two interceptions. Kelly liked the way that Nussmeier attacked but says they need to limit his mistakes.

LSU will kick off against Vanderbilt at 11 a.m. in Nashville.

The LSU women’s basketball team will start their season as the No. 5 team in the country as the preseason AP Poll was announced today. UConn, South Carolina, UCLA, Texas and LSU round out the top 5 teams.

The Tigers will start their season on November 4th when they host Houston Christian at the PMAC.

Despite UL-Lafayette’s 2-4 record, the team can still mathematically win the Sun Belt West Division. Head coach Michael Desormeaux says everything the team wants is in front of them and believes the Cajuns can get it done but says they will have to find a way to finish the close games more consistently.

Desormeaux also announced that junior quarterback Walker Howard will return to practice fully this week after missing the last six weeks after suffering an oblique injury that required surgery.

The Cajuns host Southern Miss on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Last night, former LSU quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders were defeated by the Chicago bears by a score of 25-24 after Bears kicker Jake Moody hit the game-winning field goal as time expired.
