LSU football ended its three-game losing streak this Saturday after defeating Arkansas 23-22. Just before the game, quarterback Garrett Nussmeier was ruled out with an abdominal injury, so sophomore Michael Van Buren got his first start, and he completed 21 out of 31 passes for 221 yards and a touchdown. He didn’t throw any interceptions but was sacked four times. Van Buren says his first SEC win is one he will not soon forget.

With the win, LSU is now bowl eligible. The Tigers wrap up their home schedule Saturday against Western Kentucky; kickoff is at 6:45. Their final regular-season game is a week later at Oklahoma.

The No. 5 LSU women’s basketball team will take a short drive down Interstate 10 to New Orleans this evening as the Tigers take on Tulane tonight at 6 p.m.

The Pelicans dropped their fifth straight game and the first since firing Willie Green last night after losing to the Golden State Warriors by a score of 124-106. Trey Murphy led New Orleans in scoring with 20 points. James Borrego coached his first game as the interim head coach and says he will not take the opportunity for granted.

The Pelicans are back at it tonight as they will take on the Oklahoma City Thunder at 7 p.m.

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. will be out for the foreseeable future after suffering a potentially season-ending knee injury during Sunday’s 30-27 loss to the Carolinas Panthers. The Falcons travel to New Orleans this Sunday to face the Saints and veteran backup quarterback Kirk Cousins is expected to get the start.

Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes is the first former LSU pitcher to win a Cy Young Award, winning it for the National League. Skenes led Major League Baseball with a 1.97 ERA and had 216 strikeouts. At LSU, Skenes helped the Tigers win a national championship in 2023 and was named the College World Series Most Outstanding Player. LSU Coach Jay Johnson is thrilled to see Skenes having success in the Majors.

LSU interim head coach Frank Wilson says the team will play both Garrett Nussmeier and Michael Van Buren at quarterback this weekend. Senior wide receiver Zavion Thomas says Nussmeier is a great teammate and that he and Nussmeier have a great relationship both on and off the field.

Louisiana Tech dropped to 5-and-4 after a heartbreaking 25-24 loss to Delaware last Saturday. Two of the Bulldogs’ four losses have been by one point. Head coach Sonny Cumbie says he believes his team will respond the right way this week.

The LSU women’s basketball team stayed unbeaten on the year and improved to 4-and-0 after defeating Charlotte last night by a score of 117-59. It’s the fourth straight game where the Tigers have scored over 100 points. Junior guard MiLaysia Fulwiley led LSU in scoring with 22 points.

The LSU men’s basketball team returns to action tonight as they host Florida International at 7 p.m.

LSU Interim head football coach Frank Wilson said the Tigers will play both quarterbacks this weekend. Guillory defended Garrett Nussmeier after seeing a lot of criticism on social media and says he has full faith in both Nussmeier and Michael Van Buren to give LSU a shot at winning on Saturday.

Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes became the first former LSU baseball player to win the Cy-Young last night. Skenes was selected as the unanimous winner of the National League Cy Young Award and became the first pitcher in 40 years to win the Rookie of The Year one season and baseball’s top pitching prize the next. Skenes has a 10-and-10 record with a league-best 1.97 ERA and 216 strikeouts.

The Pelicans dropped their third straight game last night after losing to the Portland Trail Blazers by a score of 125-117. Rookie Derik Queen led scoring for New Orleans with a career-high 26 points. The Pelicans are now last in the Western Conference at 2-and-9 on the season.

According to online Sportsbook, Bet Online, Nick Saban is the favorite to be the next head coach at LSU. His odds are two to one. Josh Barton with Bet Online says when they first started taking bets on who will be the next head coach at LSU, Saban was a long shot with odds of 75 to 1….

Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin at 15 to 4 odds is the second favorite, followed by Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady, who was the co-offensive coordinator at LSU during the 2019 national championship season.

Interim head coach Frank Wilson announced that junior linebacker Whit Weeks will practice today. Weeks has been dealing with a bone bruise since the South Carolina game in October.

The LSU women’s basketball team returns to Baton Rouge tonight as the Tigers host the Charlotte 49ers. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.

The LSU offense did not see much success against Alabama in the 20-9 loss; but when it did, the Tigers moved the pocket so that quarterbacks Garrett Nussmeier and Michael Van Buren had more time to throw. Frank Wilson says Nussmeier was more comfortable with the rollout plays.

ULM football has lost five in a row heading into Saturday’s game against South Alabama. The Warhawks have to win the rest of their games in order to make it to a bowl game. Head coach Bryant Vincent says his team hasn’t lost faith in one another.

Brian Kelly’s legal team has filed a lawsuit against LSU in an effort to get the school to pay the former Tigers football coach the full buyout of 54-million dollars. Wilson Alexander is covering the story for The Advocate Newspaper and says the suit claims that LSU is telling Kelly he has not been formally terminated, and they will seek to fire him for cause…

If LSU can prove they fired Kelly for cause, then they would not owe Kelly the full 54-million-dollar buyout.

LSU interim head coach Frank Wilson says he is hopeful for junior linebacker Whit Weeks’ return to the field after he has missed the last two games due to a bone bruise.

The suspensions of seven U-L Lafayette football players for their roles in Saturday’s postgame brawl with Texas State players are not sitting well with Dave Schultz, the host of the Locked On Sun Belt podcast. Schultz notes that it was the Texas State players who started the fight, but the Cajuns got the brunt of the suspensions – including senior safety Tyree Skipper, who was suspended for the rest of the season. Schultz says Sun Belt Commissioner Keith Gill gave no explanation in how he decided which players to suspend and for how long, including Skipper’s suspension, and he says Gill owes the players, the coaches, the schools and the fans more details.

LSU senior cornerback Mansoor Delane has been named as a semifinalist for the 2025 Bednarik Award, which is awarded to the best defensive college football player of the year. Delane has 37 tackles, eight pass breakups and one interception this season.

LSU interim head football coach Frank Wilson says quarterbacks Garrett Nussmeier and Michael Van Buren will both play this Saturday against Arkansas. Former LSU head coach Brian Kelly rejected two settlement offers of 25 and 30 million dollars. Kelly is seeking the full buyout and his attorney has given LSU a deadline of 6 p.m. tonight to confirm in writing that they’ll pay him the full 54 million dollars he’s owed under the terms of his contract.

The LSU men’s basketball team returns to action tonight as the Tigers host the University of New Orleans at 7 p.m. UNO upset TCU in its first game of the season.

Despite losing one of his best receivers to the trade deadline, Saints rookie quarterback Tyler Shough completed 19 out of 27 passes for 282 yards and two touchdowns in earning his first NFL win as a starting quarterback in just his second career start. After the game, Shough said it felt great to get his first career win.

The Sun Belt Conference has issued suspensions for six Texas State players and seven Louisiana players, including senior and starting safety Tyree Skipper, who will be suspended for the remainder of the 2025.  Courtline Flowers, Kody Jackson, Kailep Edwards, Collin Jacob, Evan Stroman and De’Antonio Leseur will serve one-game suspensions. The suspensions result from a postgame incident which followed the conclusion of the 42-39 UL win. UL-Lafayette has released a statement saying they understand the leagues decision to hold those involved accountable for their actions.

After losing a close game to the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday, the Pelicans return to play as they face the Phoenix Suns at 8 p.m.  Zion Williamson is out with a left hamstring strain, and Jordan Poole is out with a left quad strain. The Pelicans are 2 and 7 on the year.

One day after LSU president Wade Rousse said Verge Ausberry was the acting Athletics Director, an LSU spokesperson tells the Louisiana Radio Network that Ausberry is THE PERMANENT director of athletics at LSU. Interim head coach Frank Wilson says Ausberry is the right man for the job.

Last night, the LSU men’s basketball team defeated Tarleton State in its season opener by a score of 96-60. The Tigers shot a program-best 71.7% from the field after hitting 33 of their 46 shots. Senior guard Max Mackinnon led scoring for LSU with 19 points.

Once Frank Wilson was named LSU’s interim head coach, he set out to keep the entire team together. LSU’s coaching staff brought a bass drum into the team room, beating it to mirror a heartbeat. Senior linebacker West Weeks says the drum helps set the tone for the day.

Southeastern football faces its first-ranked opponent on Saturday as the No. 14 Lions take on No. 18 Lamar in Beaumont. Head coach Frank Scelfo attributes the team’s success to its leadership.

This morning, LSU announced that the university is moving forward with Verge Ausberry as the permanent Athletic Director, despite new LSU system president Wade Rousse’s comments on Ausberry being the acting A-D in two different media interviews yesterday. Ausberry will lead the search for a new football coach.

LSU football’s running game showed some promise in the first half against Texas A&M in the 49-25 loss. Junior center Braelin Moore says the Tigers are putting more emphasis on staying committed to the run as well as running the ball better against Alabama on Saturday.

The Tigers are currently nine and a half point underdogs.

The New Orleans Pelicans won their second straight game last night after defeating the Dallas Mavericks by a score of 101-99. Veteran guard Saddiq Bey led New Orleans in scoring with 22 points. Rookie forward Derik Queen scored 11 points while grabbing 7 boards and dishing out two assists. The Pelicans improve to 2-and-6 with the win.  New Orleans will stay in Texas as they will face the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday at 7 p.m.

The LSU women’s basketball team returns to action tonight after defeating Houston Christian on Tuesday as the Tigers host Southeastern Louisiana at 7 p.m.

New Iberia native Verge Ausberry is expected to be formally named the permanent athletics director at LSU. Last week, the former Tigers linebacker and longtime athletics administrator was named the interim A-D, but LSU’s new leadership wants Ausberry to have the job going forward.

Ausberry says he has not established a timeline for hiring a new coach. He said on Tiger Rag Radio that they will let the process work itself out, meaning it is not necessary to have a coach in place before the December early signing period for high school recruits or the January transfer portal window. He says until a new coach is in place, interim Frank Wilson has full control over the program.

Wilson told the media that junior linebacker Whit Weeks is doubtful ahead of LSU’s matchup with Alabama on Saturday as he continues to deal with a bone bruise. Wilson also said that freshman offensive lineman Carius Curne is practicing and has a chance to play on Saturday.

New LSU president Wade Rousse has been added to the head football coach search committee, which features five other members. Rousse was just named the university’s new leader, but says he will be involved very quickly and aggressively in the search for a new football coach.

The Saints sent speedy wide receiver Rashid Shaheed to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a 2026 fourth and fifth-round pick. Mike Detillier, the host of “SportsTalk” on WWL Radio, says the move comes as a step for New Orleans to acquire draft capital so it can start rebuilding.

LSU men’s basketball opens their season tonight as the Tigers host Tarleton State at 7 p.m.

The New Orleans Saints are sending wide receiver Rashid Shaheed to the Seattle Seahawks in return for a 2026 fourth and fifth round draft pick. Shaheed will be reunited with former Saints offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak in Seattle. New Orleans is now down to Chris Olave, Brandin Cooks, Devaughn Vele and Mason Tipton at the wide receiver position.

The LSU Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to name McNeese State president Wade Rousse as the university’s next president. Rousse will play a major role in the hiring of the next LSU Athletic Director.

Pelicans coach Willie Green is on the hot seat after New Orleans’ 0-and-6 start to the season. Green’s discussions with the Pelicans front office, including executive vice president Joe Dumars, remain focused on finding a quick solution to improve the season.

LSU’s rushing offense ranks 15th in the SEC, averaging just 106 yards on the ground a game. In Alabama’s lone loss of the season, Florida State rushed for 230 yards. Interim head coach Frank Wilson says running the ball effectively will be a key to beating the Crimson Tide this Saturday.

LSU women’s basketball’s season begins tonight as the Tigers host Houston Christian at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center at 7 p.m. Head coach Kim Mulkey enters her fifth season coaching at LSU. The Tigers bring in three new transfers including junior MiLaysia Fulwiley, senior Amiya Joyner and sophomore Kate Koval. LSU also brings in the top freshman class which included Bella Hines, Grace Knox, Divine Bourrage, ZaKiyah Johnson and Meghan Yarnevich.
