It’s been nothing short of an eventful week for the Kiffin family. Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin’s daughter, Landry Kiffin, launched her relationship with LSU junior linebacker Whit Weeks on Instagram earlier this week. Kiffin says that he is happy for his daughter and approves of Weeks.

The Saints will travel to the Buffalo this weekend to face the reigning MVP Josh Allen and the undefeated Bills. Safety Justin Reid says that Allen is such a good quarterback because of his ability to extend plays.

UL-Lafayette’s football team has dug itself into a deep hole after starting the season 1-3 before entering conference play. The Cajuns will look to get back on track against Marshall this weekend in what will be a very different rematch of the 2024 Sun Belt Championship. Head coach Michael Desormeaux (DEZ-er-moe) says that his team has to continue working on fixing its issues.

Kickoff on Saturday in Lafayette will be at 7 p.m.

Former LSU and current Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes capped off his incredible season on Wednesday evening after shutting out the Cincinnati Reds. Skenes will end his second season in the MLB with a league best 1.97 ERA. Skenes threw 187 and two-thirds innings pitched while striking out 216 batters. Despite having some of the best numbers, Skenes finishes with a 10-10 record, but is still the favorite to win the NL Cy Young Award.

The last time LSU played Ole Miss in Oxford, the Rebels won a shootout, 55 to 49. The Tigers’ defense allowed a single game record of 706 yards. LSU Coach Brian Kelly brings a better defense to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium this time, but Kelly says his offense will still be needed to score…

LSU’s defense will have to prepare for two quarterbacks as the Rebels could play both Trinidad Chambliss and Austin Simmons.

In New Orleans beatdown in Seattle, the Saints trailed 38-6 at halftime against the Seahawks. The 38 points are the most New Orleans has allowed in the first half in franchise history. Head coach Kellen Moore is eager to see how his team responds to blowout loss…

It won’t get any easier for the Saints this week as the black and gold travel to Buffalo to face the reigning MVP, Josh Allen, and the undefeated Bills on Sunday.

And NOLA.com is reporting the Superdome lease negotiations have stalled because of pending deals regarding related properties, such as the Benson Tower, Champions Square and the Saints practice facility. According to Times-Picayune reporter Jeff Duncan, the state wants a lease agreement on the Superdome only and draw up separate lease deals for the other properties, while the Saints prefer all of it under one lease agreement.

LSU will host Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday at 6:45 p.m. before it gets to the meat of its SEC schedule. The Tigers’ mantra for the entire season is to go 1-0 each week and sophomore linebacker Davhon Keys reiterates focusing on one opponent at a time.

Louisiana Tech’s offensive line struggled to protect the quarterback in the first couple of games, but limited New Mexico State to just one sack last week. Head coach Sonny Cumbie says he is proud of the growth from the entire unit and says the Bulldogs have to continue getting better.

Tulane looks to stay undefeated as the Green Wave travels to Oxford on Saturday to face number 13 Ole Miss at 6:30 p.m.

UL-Lafayette will continue its road trip for the second straight week as the Cajuns face Eastern Michigan on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Nicholls will travel west to Texas to take on Texas State on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Grambling State will host East Texas A&M on Saturday at 6 p.m. as the Tigers are coming off a 37-31 overtime win over Kentucky State last week.

ULM will travel to El Paso to take on a very talented UTEP team on Saturday at 8 p.m. The Warhawks are looking to get back on track after suffering a blowout loss to Alabama.

A Calcasieu Parish jury has found a southwest Louisiana man guilty of murder in the brutal death of a 72-year-old woman in 2023. District Attorney Stephen Dwight says after 43-year-old Christopher Cater killed Sheila Ortega, he drove around with the woman’s body for a month…

Former LSU and current Southern running back Trey Holly has a new trial date, which is set for April 27^th of 2026. Holly is facing a felony gun charge for a shooting that took place in his hometown of Farmerville that injured two people. Holly’s original trial date was in July, but a lack of air conditioning in the Union Parish Courthouse postponed the trial.

LSU’s offense has struggled to get in the end zone so far this season, scoring only four touchdowns in its first three games. The Tigers rank 107^th in the country in scoring offense, averaging just 20 points a game. Sophomore running back Ju’Juan Johnson says that the offense has to improve, but the group is still very confident in its ability to score.

Brett McMurphy of On3 reports that the SEC will announce its 9-game 2026 schedule and each team’s 3 rivalry opponents on Tuesday.

Saints starting left guard Trevor Penning is showing positive progress toward making his season debut in Seattle this weekend. Penning has been sidelined since the beginning of the preseason after suffering a turf-toe injury against the Chargers. Penning practiced at a limited capacity on Wednesday.

The Saints are looking to get in the win column on Sunday as the team hits the road for the first time this season to Seattle to face the Seahawks. Quarterback Spencer Rattler says that the offense has to make sure its communication is effective in what will be a hostile environment.

New Orleans’ chances of hosting the Super Bowl in 2031 are in serious jeopardy. The Saints and the state have missed a key deadline to bid on hosting the game that year, which is the earliest that the Super Bowl can return to the city – sites for the next three Super Bowls have already been established, and the Super Bowl in 2030 conflicts with Mardi Gras. Greg Bensel with the Saints says it is of utmost importance for New Orleans to land the Super Bowl in 2031. Bensel says that they are trying to make that happen.

LSU football coach Brian Kelly says Garrett Nussmeier will play Saturday night against Southeastern Louisiana despite a torso injury. It’s an injury Nussmeier suffered during preseason camp, and Kelly says Nuss is feeling better after being slowed down in practice for the past couple of weeks.

Southeastern will have to face a struggling LSU offense that’s looking to bounce back this weekend after scoring only one offensive touchdown against Florida. Head coach Frank Scelfo says that his defense will be challenged when it faces quarterback Garrett Nussmeier.

Tulane travels to Oxford this weekend to face number 13 ranked Ole Miss. The Green Wave will have to prepare for two quarterbacks as the Rebels played both senior Trinidad Chambliss and sophomore Austin Simmons against Arkansas. Simmons only played one drive due to an ankle sprain, but is expected to play this week. Head coach Jon Sumrall says that Simmons possesses rare talent.

Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin had high praise for Sumrall during the SEC teleconference and Kiffin said that he expects Sumrall to land an elite SEC coaching job this offseason.

The SEC announced that Florida running backs coach Jabbar Juluke has been suspended for three games for his involvement in a pregame altercation before Florida’s 20-10 loss to LSU. Cameras captured Juluke slapping LSU redshirt freshman safety Joel Rogers. Juluke was LSU’s running backs coach in 2016 and started his coaching career at Edna Karr High School.

LSU head coach Brian Kelly announced that quarterback Garrett Nussmeier has been dealing with a torso injury since fall camp. Kelly said that the injury was one that came from Nussmeier overworking himself during the offseason and he says that Nussmeier’s injury is one that the Tigers have to be careful with.

Tiger Rag editor Glenn Guilbeau says that the injury has prevented Nussmeier from throwing the deep pass.

A day after earning SEC Defensive Player of the Week, LSU sophomore safety Dashawn Spears has been named the Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week after hauling in two interceptions in the 20-10 win over Florida.

Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler improved his play much more in week two in the 26-21 loss to San Francisco. Rattler completed 25-of-his-34 passes for 207 yards and three touchdowns. On the Saints coaches show on the Saints Radio Network, head coach Kellen Moore says that he is excited about Rattler and the other quarterback’s development.

The Saints received more bad injury news earlier this week. Third-round pick and defensive tackle Vernon Broughton is expected to miss the rest of the 2025 season after suffering a hip injury in the loss to the 49ers. Broughton is reportedly getting multiple opinions before deciding on season-ending surgery. He played in 24 snaps against San Francisco and had three tackles.

LSU head coach Brian issued an apology to WBRZ sports director Michael Cauble today after Kelly lost his cool in the Florida postgame press conference when Cauble opened up with a question about the offense’s struggles. Kelly says that he has to do a better job with the media moving forward.

Kelly also gave injury updates on two key players during his Monday press conference. Kelly said that quarterback Garrett Nussmeier has been dealing with a torso injury since fall camp. Kelly says that the injury is not affecting Nussmeier’s play. Kelly also gave an update on linebacker West Weeks. Kelly said that Weeks has a calf strain and that he will be questionable going into this week’s game. Kelly said he expects Weeks to be back on the field at some point this week.

LSU and Brian Kelly received a major commitment from four-star quarterback Peyton “Pop” Houston. He’s currently a junior from Evangel Christian Academy in Shreveport, and ESPN has him rated as the number one pocket passer in the country. Lee Brecheen with Louisiana Football Magazine says Houston has a big-time arm..

Cut 3 (09) “…hard to tackle.”

Multiple Louisiana quarterbacks earned weekly conference honors. Tulane redshirt senior quarterback Jake Retzlaff was named American Offensive Player of the Week after his performance against Duke in the 34 to 27 win. Retzlaff registered 356 total yards of offense including four rushing touchdowns which tied Tulane’s program record for a quarterback.

McNeese sophomore quarterback Jake Strong was named Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week after his performance in a 42 to 41 loss to Weber State. Strong threw for 278 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for two additional touchdowns.

The LSU rush attack comes in at 85^th in the country, averaging just 118 yards on the ground a game. Head coach Brian Kelly knows the overall offense needs to better and he says that he wants to make sure that his team wins the line of scrimmage when it plays Florida on Saturday.

Kickoff to a sold-out Tiger Stadium will be at 6:30 p.m.

UL-Lafayette travels to Columbia, Missouri to face the number twenty-five Missouri Tigers on Saturday at noon central time.

Tulane will host Duke on Saturday at 7 p.m. Emotions are going to run high in Yulman Stadium as starting Blue Devil quarterback Darian Mensah returns to New Orleans for the first time since transferring from the Green Wave in the offseason.

Louisiana Tech opens up conference play in Ruston on Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. where the Bulldogs will face New Mexico State. Head coach Sonny Cumbie has yet to name a starting quarterback.

Former Patriots starting quarterback Mac Jones is expected to get the start in New Orleans for the San Francisco 49ers with Brock Purdy injured. Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan says that although Jones is not very mobile, it will be important for the New Orleans pass rush to throw him off his timing and make him uncomfortable.

Southern football looks to bounce back on Saturday after being blown out at home against Alabama State last week. Southern travels to California to face the Fresno State Bulldogs at 9 p.m. central. Junior Cam’Ron McCoy will get the start for the Jags at quarterback.

After defeating Murray State in Georgia last week, Southeastern is back home Saturday to host the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils at 6 p.m.

The Grambling State Tigers host the Kentucky State Thorobreds Saturday at 6 p.m.

McNeese State will host Weber State at 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Through the first two weeks of the season, the LSU defense has allowed only 17 total points and ranks 11^th nationally in total defense. Junior linebacker Whit Weeks says that even though the Tigers have had a decent start, he knows they can be even better.

Cut 18 (15) “…right now.”

On Thursday night, Dunham quarterback Elijah Haven, who is ranked as the composite number one QB in the nation in the class of 2027, lifted the Tigers to a 63- 42 win over Live Oak. Haven completed 21-of-his-30 passes for a remarkable 402 yards and six touchdowns.  On the ground, Haven rushed for 133 yards on 10 rushes with two touchdowns. Haven’s eight touchdowns and total yards marked career highs for the highly touted junior quarterback.

Louisiana Tech will open up conference play against New Mexico State Saturday night at 6:30. Head coach Sonny Cumbie says he and the staff are still evaluating the quarterback room. Cumbie said the Bulldogs need more production at the position and believes this weekend will help them make a decision.

After a week one victory at Oak Grove, Calvary travels to Monroe for a test against Neville High School. Neville is ranked as number four in this week’s Louisiana Sports Writers Association 5A poll after defeating Evangel last week by a score of 33- 32. Neville is looking to get back-to-back wins over Calvary after the Tigers defeated the Cavaliers 42-38 last season.

Catholic High will host St. Thomas More tonight in a blockbuster matchup. The Bears are coming off a promising 32-23 win over Destrehan. The Cougars are coming off of a season-opening loss to Carencro High.
