The fifth-ranked LSU women’s basketball team is in Austin tonight for a top-five matchup against fourth-ranked Texas. It’s a rematch of the game played in the PMAC on January 11th, won by LSU 70 to 65.  Cory Diaz covers LSU women’s hoops for the USA Today Network, and he expects Texas coach Vic Schaefer to instruct his team to get the ball to six-foot-six center Kyla Oldacre.

The New Orleans Pelicans are trading point guard Jose Alvarado to the New York Knicks in exchange for guard Dalen Terry and two second-round picks.

Saints rookie quarterback Tyler Shough has been selected as the Pepsi Zero Sugar NFL Rookie of the Year, which is voted on by the fans. Shough looks to bring home another trophy tonight as he awaits the announcement of the AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

When it comes to recruiting, LSU football coach Lane Kiffin doesn’t like to take no for an answer. When top transfers Sam Leavitt and Jordan Seaton left Baton Rouge without committing, Kiffin hopped on a plane in an effort to secure a pledge from both. Kiffin says he’s willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done.

Louisiana Tech announced a reconstructed three-year contract for head football coach Sonny Cumbie today. Cumbie’s original five-year contract signed in January of 2022 was worth 1 million dollars per year. Cumbie’s reconstructed deal will be worth $760,000 per year, which also includes performance-based incentives. The remaining salary of $150,000 per year will be reallocated towards revenue-sharing and assistant coaches’ salary pools.

The Brooklyn Nets are waiving former LSU guard Cam Thomas, allowing him to find a new home.

LSU head coach Lane Kiffin was able to sign the two best players in the state of Louisiana in defensive linemen Lamar Brown and Richard Anderson. Kiffin says even though he gets credit for keeping Brown and Anderson in the boot, it was the program that recruited itself.

Today is National Signing Day and LSU officially signed three-star junior college transfer offensive lineman Adrian Lamb of Georgia Military College and three-star safety Jackson Williams of Archbishop Shaw High School.

The LSU baseball team came in as the No. 1 team in the 2026 USA Today Baseball Coaches Preseason Poll. It’s the Tigers’ fourth Top-2 ranking and second No. 1 ranking since last month. LSU was rated No. 1 by Perfect Game and No. 2 by D1Baseball and Baseball America in their respective preseason polls. LSU, UCLA, Texas, Georgia Tech and Arkansas rounded out the top five.

The UL-Lafayette men’s basketball team has won three of its last four games, and the Cajuns look to keep it hot as they’re at James Madison tonight. With the team’s recent success, Cajuns head coach Quannas White says he wants his team to remain humble.

The Louisiana Tech men’s basketball team hosts New Mexico State tonight at 6:30 p.m.

The Sun Belt Conference released its Preseason Coaches Poll today, and UL-Lafayette baseball was picked to finish fifth in the conference, receiving 126 votes.

Head baseball coach Matt Deggs announced the Cajuns’ starting pitching rotation today during UL Baseball Media Day. Junior left-hander Ty Roman will serve as the Friday night starter. Roman is a transfer from San Jacinto junior college. Junior right-hander JR Tollett will be the Saturday starter and graduate student left-hander Andrew Herrmann will be the Sunday starter.

Depth is one of the major strengths of this year’s LSU baseball team. Fifth-year senior infielder Tanner Reaves says the Tigers’ depth will benefit them in multiple ways this season.

LSU sophomore centerfielder Derek Curiel was named as a 2026 First-Team Preseason All-American by Baseball America magazine. As a freshman last season, Curiel batted a team-high .345 with 20 doubles, two triples, seven home runs, 55 RBI’s, and 67 runs.

In D1Baseball.com’s list of top-50 college second basemen in the country, LSU senior infielder Brayden Simpson landed at No. 5. In three seasons at High Point, Simpson batted .323 with 46 doubles, two triples, 37 home runs, 136 RBI’s, 143 runs and 29 stolen bases.

Saints quarterbacks coach Scott Tolzien will remain in New Orleans, despite interviewing for the Steelers’ offensive coordinator position earlier this week, according to Jordan Schultz. Tolzien will continue to play a pivotal role in developing quarterback Tyler Shough.

Saints tight ends coach Chase Haslett interviewed for the passing game coordinator position with the Steelers, but will also remain in New Orleans.

Last night, the McNeese State men’s basketball team fell to Stephen F. Austin 67-60 as the Lumberjacks extended their lead in the Southland to two games.

Nicholls defeated Northwestern State 61-58 in Natchitoches last night to improve to 10- 13 overall and 9-5 in conference play. After losing five consecutive games in January, the Colonels have now won two straight.

UNO extended its win streak to three games last night after defeating East Texas A&M 94-85. With the win, the Privateers are now 10-13 on the season and 8-5 in Southland play.

UL-Lafayette men’s basketball is back in action tomorrow as the Cajuns are at James Madison at 6 p.m.

LSU’s new starting third baseman Trent Caraway is a West Coast kid. He’s from Southern California and was named the Gatorade State Player of the Year in 2023 after nearly hitting 500 at the plate. Caraway signed out of high school at Oregon State and played two seasons for the Beavers. He entered the transfer portal and quickly hit it off with LSU coach Jay Johnson who also recruited him out of high school…

D1Baseball.com released its top-50 college first basemen in the country for the 2026 season and LSU senior Zach Yorke landed at the No. 19 spot. In Yorke’s three seasons at Grand Canyon, he batted .328 with 32 doubles, two triples, 32 home runs and 157 runs-batted in.

The McNeese State men’s basketball team is in Texas to face Stephen F. Austin tonight at 6:30 p.m. in a battle for first place in the Southland.

The Saints announce they will play in the first-ever NFL regular-season game in France. Saints Owner Gayle Benson says the game in Paris will be significant as there is a strong cultural connection between Louisiana and France that dates back to the 17th century. Nothing official from the Saints, but a French outlet reports the game will be played on October 26th against the Browns. With the game in France, that means the Saints will play eight regular-season games in the Dome next season, instead of nine. The Saints announce this will mean a 10-percent reduction in ticket prices for season ticket holders.

The UL-Lafayette Athletics Department’s deficit has increased by more than $600,000 since last year, a review by the state Legislative Auditor shows. The review of procedures, which is done annually to comply with NCAA rules, shows an operating deficit of $13. 2 million compared to $12.6 million in last year’s report.

Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis is in Mobile this week, along with other coaches and personnel, to evaluate players at the Senior Bowl. Loomis says this year’s draft class has an abundance of quality players.

The Buffalo Bills are hiring former Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael as their next offensive coordinator. Carmichael was with the Saints from 2006-2023, spending most of his time in New Orleans as the offensive coordinator. Carmichael served as an offensive assistant for the Denver Broncos under Sean Payton for the last two seasons.

Last night, the sixth-ranked LSU women’s basketball team extended its win streak to six games after defeating Arkansas 92-70. LSU is back at it on Sunday as they host No. 24 Alabama at 11 a.m.

In 2025, LSU baseball had one of the best pitching staffs in the entire country. Not only did the Tigers have great starters in Kade Anderson and Anthony Eyanson, but they also had several reliable relievers. LSU pitching coach Nate Yeskie says one of the best pitchers in the fall has been left-handed sophomore Ethan Plog, a junior college transfer from Iowa Western Community College.

The Louisiana Tech women’s basketball team won their seventh consecutive game last night, defeating Kennesaw State 72-44.

McNeese women’s basketball has now won 10 straight games after the Cowgirls took down Stephen F. Austin 60-54 in overtime last night.

The LSU men’s basketball team travels to Columbia tomorrow to take on South Carolina. The game was originally scheduled for 5 p.m. but has been moved up to noon due to forecasted snow.

The LSU men’s basketball team dropped to 1-7 in conference play after losing 80-66 to Mississippi State last night. Head coach Matt McMahon now has a 15-57 record in the SEC. McMahon says he thought his team was ready to play after nearly beating No. 20 Arkansas last week.

LSU football coach Lane Kiffin is in Shreveport today continuing his recruiting efforts, visiting Evangel Christian Academy and Captain Shreve High School.

Last night, the Louisiana Tech men’s basketball team completed a sweep over UTEP, defeating the Miners 69-59. Junior guard DJ Dudley led the team in scoring with 20 points.

The Louisiana Tech women’s basketball team looks to win its seventh straight game tonight as the Lady Techsters host Kennesaw State tonight at 6:30 p.m.

The sixth-ranked LSU women’s basketball team is currently riding a five-game winning streak, and the Lady Tigers look to make it six straight tonight against Arkansas at 7 p.m. Through seven SEC games, sophomore point guard Jada Richard is averaging 13 points per game. Head coach Kim Mulkey says playing the point guard in her system comes with several responsibilities.

McNeese women’s basketball looks to extend their nine-game winning streak to double digits tonight as the Cowgirls are at Stephen F. Austin at 6:30 p.m.

The ULM men’s basketball team announced a schedule change for their game against Georgia Southern. The Warhawks will now host the Eagles at 2 p.m. on Friday at Grambling State’s Willis Reed Court at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center due to the ice storm that left Northeast Louisiana without power.

LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier is at the Senior Bowl this week to showcase his talents to NFL scouts, coaches, and general managers. Nussmeier’s father, Doug Nussmeier, is currently the offensive coordinator of the Saints and has coached in the NFL for over eight years. Nussmeier says his father has helped him prepare for the NFL interviewing process.

LSU head coach Lane Kiffin and running backs coach Kevin Smith were in the 337 today to do some high school recruiting. Their first stop was in St. Martin Parish at Cecilia High School, likely checking in with four-star athlete Braylon Calais. Calais is rated as the No. 47 player in the country in the Class of 2027. Kiffin and Smith also stopped at Acadiana High School before ending their trip at Billy’s Boudin and Cracklins in Scott.

Saints’ linebacker Demario Davis hinted at testing the NFL free agency market yesterday. Davis appeared on Kay Adams’ “Up & Adams’ show yesterday, saying he would be returning to the NFL for a 15th season in 2026, but didn’t specify that he’d be back in New Orleans. Davis has played for the Saints since 2018.

The LSU men’s basketball team looks to avoid their third straight loss tonight as the Tigers host Mississippi State at 6 p.m.

Louisiana Tech men’s basketball is at UTEP tonight at 8 p.m. as the Bulldogs look to win their second straight.

Last night, McNeese men’s basketball defeated Southeastern 76-66 to improve to 17-4. Freshman guard Larry Johnson led the team in scoring with 20 points. The Cowboys are still second in the Southland, one game behind Stephen F. Austin.

Last night, UNO dominated Nicholls 80-62 in Thibodaux to improve to 8-13 on the year. Junior center Churchill Abass scored 20 points in the Privateers’ win.

The No. 6 LSU women’s basketball team goes for its sixth straight win tomorrow night as the Tigers host Arkansas at 7 p.m.

The Buffalo Bills are promoting offensive coordinator Joe Brady to head coach on a five-year deal, making Brady the youngest active head coach in the NFL at 36 years old. Brady played a major role in LSU’s historic 2019 championship season as the pass game coordinator.

The Washington Commanders are hiring former LSU defensive coordinator and Minnesota Vikings defensive backs coach Daronte Jones as their new defensive coordinator. Jones served as the Tigers’ D-C in 2021.

Last night, the sixth-ranked LSU women’s basketball team defeated Florida 89-60 to win its fifth straight game. Sophomore guard Jada Richard led the team in scoring with 20 points. Richard also held Florida’s Liv McGill, who was ranked No. 5 in scoring in the nation, to just 14 points. Head coach Kim Mulkey says Richard’s defense has been impressive.

The 2026 LSU baseball team returns its entire starting outfield from last year’s 2025 College World Series championship team. Over the offseason, sophomore centerfielder Derek Curiel put on 20 pounds of muscle to add more power and speed to his swing. Curiel says he wants to make sure he’s a difficult at-bat for opposing pitchers this season.

The Pelicans will have a chance to finish their three-game road trip undefeated tonight as New Orleans takes on the Thunder at 7 p.m. Teurlings Catholic senior quarterback Alex Munoz is staying in Lafayette for his college career. Munoz announced his commitment to UL-Lafayette, where he will join his father, George Munoz, who serves as the Cajuns’ Associate Head Coach and Tight Ends Coach. Munoz led Teurlings to an 11-1 season this year.

LSU has had great success when bringing in transfer pitchers over Jay Johnson’s tenure, including Paul Skenes, Anthony Eyanson, Gage Jump, Luke Holman, and Riley Cooper. This year, the Tigers brought in junior right-handed pitcher Cooper Moore from Kansas.

LSU opens up their season against Milwaukee on February 13 at 2 p.m.

According to Dianna Russini of the Athletic, LSU offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. spoke to the Philadelphia Eagles about their offensive coordinator vacancy but informed the team he will remain with Lane Kiffin and the Tigers for the 2026 season.

The sixth-ranked LSU women’s basketball team is back in action tonight as the Tigers host Florida at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center at 6 p.m.

Former LSU and current Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte is among five former Tigers who will be playing in Super Bowl 60. In yesterday’s AFC Championship, New England did just enough on offense to get past Denver and Boutte says his team wasn’t going to let the harsh conditions get in the way of getting to Santa Clara.

A couple of men’s basketball games in the Southland have been postponed to tomorrow due to winter weather conditions. Instead of playing tonight, Southeastern will host McNeese tomorrow at 6 p.m. Nicholls will host the University of New Orleans tomorrow at 3:30 p.m., replacing tonight’s 6 p.m. game.

Jennings High School announced on social media on Friday that former football head coach Rusty Phelps has died at the age of 62. Phelps coached for 35 years, including 31 as a head coach with three years at Newellton High School and 28 at Jennings.

The sixth-ranked LSU women’s basketball team dominated Texas A&M last night by a score of 98-54. Head coach Kim Mulkey was not with the team this week due to a family emergency. She was in Texas as her 7-year-old grandson was hospitalized with a ruptured appendix. Associate Head Coach Bob Starkey filled in for Mulkey’s absence, and Mulkey says that she will always prioritize her family first.

The Louisiana Tech women’s basketball team defeated Missouri State 60-51 on the road last night to win their fifth straight game.

McNeese women’s basketball won their eighth straight game last night after head coach Ayla Guzzardo took down her former team in Southeastern by a score of 72-30.

New LSU transfer wide receiver Jackson Harris of Hawaii was the first player to commit to the Tigers in the transfer portal cycle. Harris met Lane Kiffin on his visit and says he has the utmost respect for his new coach.

The College Football Playoff is reportedly set to remain a 12-team field in 2026. SEC commissioner Greg Sankey pushed for a 16-team model, but Big 10 commissioner Tony Petitti would have only agreed to it if Sankey committed to a 24-team field after three years.

Louisiana Tech men’s basketball is back in action today as the Bulldogs host Kennesaw State at 1 p.m.

The LSU men’s basketball team looks to get back in the win column on Saturday as the Tigers will be in Fayetteville to take on No. 20 Arkansas at 7:30 p.m.

McNeese men’s basketball is back in Lake Charles on Saturday after being on the road last week. The Cowboys host the University of New Orleans at 2:30 p.m.
