The department of health reports more patients are hospitalized with COVID-19 today and nearly 26-hundred new cases have been added to the statewide case total. Currently, 874 patients are in hospitals across the state and vent usage has increased to 92. 17 additional fatalities have also been reported today. On Friday the daily total number was 35-hundred new cases the highest daily total since March.

U-S Representative Cedric Richmond announced today he will resign from his seat before January 20th to become a senior adviser to President-Elect Joe Biden. Richmond says he’ll have an office in the West Wing and he says he’ll fight to bring much-needed federal resources to Louisiana.

The 47-year old congressman first elected to Congress in 2010 and just re-elected to his sixth term. A special election will be held to fill his congressional seat.
