The latest update from the National Hurricane Center has Tropical Storm Zeta 410 miles south-southwest of the mouth of the Mississippi River, with sustained winds at 65 miles per hour moving northwest at 14 miles per hour. Zeta is forecast to become a hurricane again overnight and be at or near hurricane strength when it reaches the northern Gulf Coast Wednesday evening.

A hurricane warning is in effect from Morgan City to the Mississippi/Alabama border as tropical storm Zeta is expected to strengthen to Category One hurricane. State Climatologist Barry Keim says Zeta is expected to bring hurricane conditions to portions of the Northern Gulf of Mexico Wednesday evening.

Rainfall amounts are predicted to be between two and four inches.

Zeta is expected to move quickly through the state at over 20 miles an hour delivering little rain but some potential hurricane-force winds. Director of Emergency Preparedness for St. Bernard Parish John Rahaim says he expects a wide variety of damage to be present in the area.
