US Senate Judiciary hearings on the nomination of Metairie native and Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court seat vacated by Ruth Bader Ginsburg began today. Democrats have raised concerns that Republicans on the committee have refused to take a COVID test and disclose the results before entering the committee, but Senator John Kennedy, who sits on the committee, says if they don’t have to be there in person if they don’t feel safe.

An 11-year-old Baton Rouge boy was booked into juvenile detention over the weekend after commandeering a school bus and taking it for a joy ride. The boy alleged hit several vehicles during what ended up becoming a chase and required police to shut down stretches of road in the city to block the bus.
