Hurricane Delta is a major hurricane, Category 3 storm, as it approaches southwest Louisiana this morning. Landfall is expected tonight in eastern Cameron Parish. It’s moving north at 12 miles per hour but will turn towards the northeast and pass near Alexandria into northeast Louisiana as a tropical storm on Saturday. Both Entergy and Cleco have thousand of additional workers on standby to respond to power outages from Hurricane Delta. Cleco spokesperson Jennifer Cahill says trees that were not damaged during Hurricane Laura are still vulnerable and with Delta trailing so close behind, they might not survive a second storm. Governor John Bel Edwards is keeping the current Phase Three coronavirus public health restrictions in place until November 6th. That includes the statewide mask mandate. Edwards says the current mitigation measures have been able to keep the state’s case count and hospitalizations down, even with most businesses expanding operations.
