The largest school system in the state announces a two-week delay to the start of the fall semester. The Jefferson Parish Public School System stated they will now begin classes August 26th .The decision to delay was made after school officials learned they would have access to rapid coronavirus testing through Ochsner for the August 26th date according to Superintendent James Gray. Students were set to report to class this Wednesday.

The Big Ten has backed out of fall college sports and other conferences are reportedly in active along conversations. The SEC is meeting today and there’s no news yet out of the Sun Belt Conference. Some prominent college players are backing a return to fall football, while others have taken the option to opt-out and not lose their scholarship. Cajuns coach Billy Napier says he’s seeing some real player agency in action.

The state’s legislative auditor debunks the claims of duplicate COVID-19 cases that have led some to believe the coronavirus outbreak data is being presented in a manner to be more alarming than it is.  Legislative Auditor Daryl Purpera says the parishes may be seeing data before it goes through the state’s processing.

The Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s office says 24-year-old, Peter Guy is dead after being shot at a party of three to four hundred people. Sheriff Sgt. Matthew Henderson says according to their investigation Mr. Guy had made two previous stops in the parish before attending the large party along Highway 146.

Local reports say there were at least 100 cars lining the road leading up to the party.
