According to a new poll, US Representative Vance McAllister’s challengers are within single digits in the race for the 5th congressional seat. Monroe Mayor Jamie is the only announced Democrat in the ace but ULM political science professor Joshua Stockley says the Glascock survey indicated he has some work to do to make the runoff…:

The poll shows McAllister at 27 percent, with Mayo at 21 percent and Republican Ralph Abraham at 18 percent.

On Tuesday Baton Rouge Mayor President Kip Holden criticized Governor Bobby Jindal for going to the Mexico border to discuss safety issues there. The Governors office issued a statement last night in response saying they believe the Mayor is wrong and that an unsecured border in Mexico does have an impact in Louisiana with the potential of gangs and drugs coming here. Jindal added it is shortsighted of Holden to say that illegal immigrants and an unsecured border don’t have an impact on Louisiana.

A woman from Rayne whose four children perished in a mobile home fire while she was out at a Church Point nightclub in 2012 has been sentenced to eight years in prison with no benefit of probation or parole. Shaqueta McDade pleaded no contest to four counts of negligent homicide. All of the children were under the age of eight.
