A science teacher at Northwestern Middle School in Zachary is being held in jail on a $225,000 bond, accused of having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student. Kevin Barnhart has the story.

A 22-year-old Opelousas man accused of setting fire to three African American churches last spring pleaded guilty to four federal criminal counts today. The U-S Attorney says Holden Matthews admitting to setting the fires because of the religious character of these buildings in an effort to raise his profile as a Black Metal musician. He’ll be sentenced May 22nd.

The number of LSU students infected with the mumps is up to 12. The state health department reported five cases last week and most of the students who have the contagious disease live off-campus. State immunization director Doctor Frank Welch says finding out how the outbreak started is difficult because there’s a significant lag between when you are infected and when you show symptoms…

An LSU tennis match over the weekend was canceled when it was discovered a tennis player had been infected.

AAA says the price at the pump has fallen more than 20-cents over the last month to a statewide average of $2.11 a gallon for regular gasoline. But AAA fuel analyst Don Redman expects the prices to rise soon as we’ll see a cutback on production…
