A white man charged with setting fire to three African American churches in St. Landry Parish last spring pleaded guilty today to four federal charges. Federal prosecutors say Holden Matthews will be sentenced May 22nd and faces between 10 to 70 years in prison.

A science teacher at Northwestern Middle School in Zachary is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student. 34-year-old Ellarea Silva is currently on leave after her arrest on Thursday. Zachary Police Chief David McDavid says the relationship appeared to be a summer fling.

Silva faces several charges including indecent behavior with a juvenile, carnal knowledge of a juvenile and oral sexual battery.

Prices at the pump continue to decline. According to Triple-A, the statewide average for a regular gallon of gasoline is $2.11. That’s 21-cents lower than a month ago. AAA fuel analyst Don Redman says there is a high supply of gasoline and low demand, but the price drop might not last much longer…
