A crash in St. Landry Parish Saturday claims the lives of two women from Opelousas. State Police now have a man in custody after the driver fled the scene. State Trooper Thomas Gossen says a car mirror left at the scene was evidence enough to develop a suspect.

Cut 3 (06) “…yesterday evening”

42-year old Kizzy Greene and 41-year old Angela Broussard were both killed when they were standing in the northbound lane of LA 749.

Gossen says Michael Thibodeaux of Washington has been charged with hit and run driving.

Cut 4 (11) “…render aid”

Reports from “The Advocate” indicate one of the victims in the crash received a call earlier Saturday night that her son had been found dead, she was overcome with grief and ran out onto the highway.

Gossen says Thibodeaux’s could be hit with a heftier charge of hit and run because two fatalities occurred as a result of the accident as opposed to leaving an accident and not causing injury.

Cut 5 (11) “…or death”

Another pedestrian was also injured in the accident.

The Public Affairs Research Council is decrying what they say is an unconstitutional secret ballot nomination process for the Senate Presidency.

The final vote for Senate President is public, but the crucial first step of nominating people for the position is not. PAR President Robert Travis Scott says the process is against the law.

Cut 6 (10) “…ballot.”

The rule was adopted in 2015 when former President John Alario won a unanimous vote.

The Senate President is one of the most powerful positions at the Capitol, controlling appointments, chairmanships, procedures, and more. Scott says it’s too crucial a process for any secrecy.

Cut 7 (09) “…take”

Scott hopes the Senate will overturn the rule before they nominate because no vote a publicly elected official makes should be secret.

Cut 8 (11) “public.”

Lafayette Senator Page Cortez is the frontrunner for the January 13th election.

Four LSU stars make first team All-SEC as the Purple and Gold head into the College Football playoffs with the 1st seed, and an undefeated record.

The offenses big three of QB Joe Burrow, running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, and receiver Ja’Marr Chase featured on the offensive first team. Tiger Rag Assistant Editor Tyler Nunez…

Cut 9 (08) “…players.”

No. 9 Alabama led the Conference in total 1st team nods with five.

LSU’s lone defensive first-teamer was freshman cornerback Derrick Stingley Jr., who also nabbed Newcomer of the Year. Nunez says Stingley may end his career as LSU best ever defensive back.

Cut 10 (07) “…today.”

Stingley has nabbed six picks and defended 15 passes, the second-most in the nation.

Nunez says safety Jacoby Stevens was a shocking snub on the list despite his numerous weekly awards and consistently high level of play.

Cut 11 (10) “…team.”

Guard Damian Lewis, receiver Justin Jefferson, linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson, corner Kristian Fulton, and safety Grant Delpit made the second-team All-SEC.

After losing to the 49ers Sunday the Saints will need some luck to win home-field for the NFC playoffs.  Over the next three weeks, Green Bay must lose once and San Fran needs to lose twice or a lose to Seattle, plus the Saints need to win out.

QB Drew Brees says the team is capable of that kind of run.

Cut 12 (07) “even more opportunities.”

Brees says they are a better-performing squad than what was put out on Sunday.

Cut 13 (08) “…you gotta score.”

Brees says the failed two-point conversion at the end of the 4th quarter was a play that the time liked, but a misalignment by the Niners worked in San Fran’s favor.

Cut 14 (08) “…make any excuses.”

Saints are currently with 3rd seed in the playoff and will not receive a bye week if the cards don’t fall just right.
