The legislative auditor has put 18 different cities, towns and villages on a list of fiscally distressed municipalities. Vidalia, Winnsboro, Baldwin, Lake Providence, Grambling, Ball and Melville are among the municipalities that have serious financial issues. Brad Cryer in the legislative auditor’s office, says difficult decisions will have to be made in these towns…

Prosecutors are still considering whether they’ll pursue the death penalties against a 27-year-old woman who has been indicted in the first-degree murder in the death of a six-month old child. Authorities say Hanna Nicole Barker helped the child’s mother stage a kidnapping of the child, who was later found in a ditch with severe burns covering 90-percent of the infant’s body.

The Advisory Council on Heroin and Opioid Prevention and Education releases a report showcasing Louisiana’s progress in fighting the opioid epidemic. Kevin Barnhart has the story.
